## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

UK company data from the **official Companies House API**. Look up companies by **number** or **name**, or build lists with the **advanced search**: **newly incorporated companies** by **SIC code**, date, status, type and location. Every company comes with its profile: status, type, **SIC codes with descriptions**, registered office, **accounts and confirmation statement dates** (and whether they are overdue), charges and insolvency flags, previous names, and optionally its **latest filings** with links to the **accounts PDFs**.

**No personal data**: officers and persons with significant control are never requested, so the data is about companies only.

**$2 per 1,000 companies** with full profiles. **$0.50 per 1,000** for fast advanced-search lists. **$1 per 1,000** for filing history (optional). Companies that are not found are free. No API key needed.

### Quick start

Press **Start** with the example input (Tesco PLC and Lloyds Banking Group PLC):

```json
{
  "companyNumbers": ["00445790", "SC095000"]
}
```

New IT companies incorporated yesterday, every day (schedule the Actor daily):

```json
{
  "sicCodes": ["62012", "62020"],
  "incorporatedFrom": "yesterday",
  "companyStatus": ["active"],
  "maxCompanies": 2000
}
```

One row per company (a real run, trimmed):

```json
{
  "companyNumber": "00445790",
  "companyName": "TESCO PLC",
  "statusText": "Active",
  "typeText": "Public limited company",
  "incorporatedOn": "1947-11-27",
  "sic": [{"code": "47110", "description": "Retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating"}],
  "registeredOfficeText": "Tesco House, Shire Park, Kestrel Way, Welwyn Garden City, AL7 1GA, United Kingdom",
  "accounts": {"accountingReferenceDate": "26/02", "lastMadeUpTo": "2026-02-28", "lastTypeText": "Group",
               "nextMadeUpTo": "2027-02-26", "nextDue": "2027-08-26", "overdue": false},
  "confirmationStatement": {"lastMadeUpTo": "2026-06-18", "nextDue": "2027-07-02", "overdue": false},
  "hasCharges": false,
  "hasInsolvencyHistory": false,
  "previousNames": [{"name": "TESCO STORES (HOLDINGS) PUBLIC LIMITED COMPANY", "from": "1981-12-14", "to": "1983-08-25"}],
  "url": "https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/00445790",
  "filingCount": 8372,
  "filings": [
    {"date": "2026-09-16", "category": "capital", "type": "SH03", "description": "Purchase of own shares.", "pages": 4}
  ]
}
```

### Use it for

- **Lead lists of new companies**: every new restaurant, IT consultancy or property company in a town, the day after it is registered. New companies need banks, accountants, insurance, software and websites.
- **Due diligence and KYB**: is the company active, are accounts or the confirmation statement overdue, has it ever been in insolvency, does it have charges.
- **Enrich a CRM**: add SIC codes, incorporation date and registered office to a list of UK company numbers.
- **Watch for changes**: schedule a run on your customers or suppliers and compare status and filing dates.
- **AI agents**: through the Apify MCP server, an agent can ask "what is the status of company 00445790?".

### Input

| Field | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| `companyNumbers` | | Company numbers (short numbers are padded: 445790 → 00445790) |
| `searchQueries`, `maxResultsPerSearch` | , 5 | Company names to look up, best matches first |
| `incorporatedFrom`, `incorporatedTo` | | Dates: `2026-10-01`, `today`, `yesterday`, `7 days ago` |
| `sicCodes` | | SIC 2007 codes, e.g. 62020 |
| `companyStatus`, `companyType` | | Active, dissolved, liquidation…; Ltd, PLC, LLP… |
| `location`, `nameIncludes`, `nameExcludes` | | Town or postcode area; text in the name |
| `dissolvedFrom`, `dissolvedTo` | | For lists of recently dissolved companies |
| `maxCompanies` | 500 | Cap on companies per run |
| `fetchProfiles` | true | Off: advanced-search rows only (faster, $0.50 per 1,000) |
| `includeFilingHistory`, `maxFilingsPerCompany` | false, 10 | Latest filings with PDF links |
| `apiKey` | | Optional: your own free Companies House key for large runs |

The company status filter on its own is too broad (millions of companies); use it with dates, SIC codes, a name or a location.

### Output

Company rows: `companyNumber`, `companyName`, `status`, `statusText`, `statusDetail`, `type`, `typeText`, `subtype`, `jurisdiction`, `incorporatedOn`, `dissolvedOn`, `sicCodes`, `sic` (code + description), `registeredOffice` (parts), `registeredOfficeText`, `accounts` (accounting reference date, last and next made-up dates, next due, overdue, last accounts type), `confirmationStatement`, `hasCharges`, `hasInsolvencyHistory`, `hasBeenLiquidated`, `isCommunityInterestCompany`, `previousNames`, `url`, `source`, and with filing history `filingCount` and `filings` (date, category, type, readable description, pages, and `documentUrl` for accounts).

Rows from the advanced search with *Fetch full profiles* off have the search fields only: number, name, status, type, incorporation and dissolution dates, SIC codes and registered office.

A company number that does not exist gives a row with `error` and is not charged. The key-value store record `SUMMARY` has the totals of the run.

### What it costs

| Run | Price |
|---|---|
| 1,000 company numbers, full profiles | $2.00 |
| 5,000 new companies from the advanced search, list only | $2.50 |
| 500 companies with profiles and their last 10 filings | $1.50 |

You only pay for companies you get. The run stops cleanly at your spending limit.

### Good to know

- Data comes straight from the Companies House Public Data API, the same register as the GOV.UK website. Companies House states that it "imposes no rules or requirements on how the information on the public register is used"; you remain responsible for data protection law where it applies.
- Speed: the API allows 600 requests per 5 minutes per key. With full profiles that is about 100 companies a minute (about 60 with filing history). Advanced-search lists without profiles return up to 5,000 companies per request. For very large runs, add your own free API key.
- Officers, persons with significant control and their addresses are never fetched. Filing descriptions about officers say "Appointment of an officer as a director" without the name, and those filings have no document link. "C/O" names are removed from addresses.
- With a shared key, runs pace themselves from Companies House's own rate-limit counters and wait when the limit is reached, so a busy hour can make a run slower, never failed.
- If Companies House refuses to page further through a very large advanced search, the run keeps what it has and the log says so: split the search into shorter date ranges.
- SIC descriptions and filing descriptions come from Companies House's own enumerations, refreshed when the Actor is rebuilt.

### FAQ

**How do I get only companies registered since my last run?** Schedule the Actor daily with *Incorporated from* = `yesterday` (or weekly with `7 days ago`).

**Can I get directors?** No. This Actor deliberately leaves out personal data.

**Can I download the accounts PDFs?** Accounts filings have a `documentUrl` that opens the PDF on the Companies House website (other documents, such as incorporation papers, name people and are not linked). Pass the links to [Document to Markdown](https://apify.com/saliga/document-to-markdown) to turn accounts into text for LLMs.
