## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Facebook Video & Reels Transcript Scraper

**Get the transcript of any public Facebook Reel or video** — plus caption, publish date, views, reactions, comments, duration, spoken language, a `noSpeech` flag and an optional AI summary & hook. Paste a **Facebook page URL** to transcribe its latest Reels and videos, or paste **individual reel/video links**. No Facebook login, no cookies, no API key needed.

Transcription runs on a **built-in Whisper speech-to-text model** inside the actor, so there is no extra AI bill. Want maximum accuracy? Plug in your own Groq or OpenAI key.

### What can it do?

- 🎬 **Facebook Reels to text** – full transcript + optional timestamped segments (subtitles / SRT-ready)
- 📄 **Bulk transcribe a whole Facebook page** – latest N videos & Reels from any public page
- 🔗 **Direct links** – `facebook.com/reel/…`, `/videos/…`, `/watch/?v=…`, `fb.watch` and share links
- 📊 **Engagement metadata** – views/plays, reactions, comments & shares when Facebook shows them publicly
- 🌍 **Language detection** for 90+ languages
- 🔇 **`noSpeech` flag** – instantly filter music-only / silent clips
- 🤖 **AI summary, hook & topics** – with your own OpenAI / Anthropic / Gemini / OpenRouter / Groq key, or a free built-in heuristic
- 💸 **Pay only per video** – no subscription

### Use cases

Content research & swipe files • competitor Reels analysis • repurposing videos into blogs/threads • hook libraries for UGC & ads • SEO & accessibility captions • social listening • training data for NLP.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **`video-transcribed`** per video with transcript, a cheaper **`video-scraped`** per video when transcription is off. See the price on the Pricing tab.

### FAQ

**Do I need a Facebook account?** No. Only public content visible without login is scraped.
**Why are views/comments sometimes empty?** Facebook doesn't show every counter to logged-out visitors on every video; fields are `null` rather than guessed.
**How accurate is the transcript?** Built-in Whisper `tiny` is good for clear speech; choose `base`/`small` or a Groq/OpenAI key for noisy audio, accents or non-English.
**Is it legal?** It collects only publicly available data. Respect personal-data laws (GDPR etc.) and Facebook's terms for your use case.

Keywords: facebook reels transcript, facebook video transcript, facebook video to text, fb reels scraper, facebook reels downloader transcript, speech to text, whisper.

### Cost & proxy defaults

The default memory is **1 GB**. That is enough for the `tiny` Whisper model, because the browser closes before transcription starts. Use 2 GB or more for `base` or `small`. Page listings load **directly first**, and the Actor switches to the fallback proxy (Residential by default) only when Facebook blocks the direct connection. Video files always download straight from Facebook's CDN.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Public Facebook page URLs (e.g. https://www.facebook.com/NASA) – the actor reads the page's Videos tab, which includes Reels – or direct reel/video URLs (facebook.com/reel/…, /videos/…, /watch/?v=…, fb.watch share links).

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of videos to output across all inputs.

## `maxItemsPerPage` (type: `integer`):

Latest N videos per page URL. Defaults to Max videos.

## `transcribe` (type: `boolean`):

Turn off to only scrape metadata (cheaper 'video-scraped' event).

## `transcriptionProvider` (type: `string`):

Built-in Whisper runs inside the actor at no extra cost. Bring your own Groq/OpenAI key for higher accuracy on noisy or non-English audio.

## `whisperModel` (type: `string`):

Larger = more accurate but slower. 'tiny' is great for clear speech.

## `transcriptionApiKey` (type: `string`):

Only for the Groq or OpenAI engine.

## `maxTranscribeSeconds` (type: `integer`):

Long videos are cut after this many seconds of audio.

## `includeSegments` (type: `boolean`):

Adds a 'segments' array with start/end seconds for each spoken line (subtitles).

## `llmProvider` (type: `string`):

Use your own LLM key for an AI summary, hook and topics. Without a key a free heuristic summary/hook is produced.

## `llmApiKey` (type: `string`):

Your own key for the selected provider.

## `llmModel` (type: `string`):

Optional, e.g. gpt-4o-mini, claude-3-5-haiku-latest, gemini-2.0-flash.

## `llmBaseUrl` (type: `string`):

For provider 'custom' (e.g. a local or self-hosted endpoint).

## `directFirst` (type: `boolean`):

Connect without a proxy first (cheapest) and use the proxy below only after Facebook blocks a request. Turn off to send all traffic through the proxy.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Fallback proxy. By default the actor connects directly and switches to this proxy only when Facebook blocks it. Residential is recommended as the fallback.
