## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## SEC EDGAR Filings API — 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K by Ticker or CIK

Give it stock tickers or CIK numbers. Get back that company's SEC filings — form type, filing date, report date, accession number and direct links to the primary document and filing index — as a clean table you can export to CSV, JSON or Excel, or pull via API.

Uses the **official, free SEC EDGAR JSON APIs** (`data.sec.gov/submissions` and the SEC company tickers file). No key, no scraping, no proxies.

### What it does

- **Looks up companies by ticker or CIK**, mixed freely
- **Filters by form type** (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, S-1, DEF 14A, ...) and optionally includes amendments such as 10-K/A
- **Filters by filing date range**; reaches back to the 1990s through EDGAR's archive files
- **Returns newest first**, capped per company
- **Obeys SEC fair-access rules**: declares your User-Agent and stays under 10 requests per second

### Use cases

- Monitoring new 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K filings for a watchlist
- Feeding filing URLs into a document-parsing or RAG pipeline
- Building a filing calendar or an earnings-season tracker
- Due diligence and competitor research

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `userAgentContact` | Optional. Your name and contact email, sent to the SEC as its required User-Agent. If empty, the Actor identifies itself as its publisher. |
| `tickers` | Stock tickers, e.g. `AAPL`. |
| `ciks` | Optional CIK numbers, e.g. `320193`. |
| `formTypes` | Forms to keep. Default `10-K`, `10-Q`, `8-K`. Empty means all forms. |
| `includeAmendments` | Also return `/A` amendments of those forms. Default off. |
| `filedFrom` / `filedTo` | Optional filing date range, `YYYY-MM-DD`. |
| `maxFilings` | Cap per company. Default 50. |

```json
{
  "userAgentContact": "Acme Research admin@acme.example",
  "tickers": ["AAPL", "MSFT"],
  "formTypes": ["10-K", "10-Q", "8-K"],
  "filedFrom": "2024-01-01",
  "maxFilings": 50
}
```

### Output

```json
{
  "company": "Apple Inc.",
  "cik": "0000320193",
  "ticker": "AAPL",
  "form": "10-Q",
  "filingDate": "2026-07-31",
  "reportDate": "2026-06-27",
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per filing returned. You only pay for results.

### Notes

- Uses only the official public SEC EDGAR APIs. EDGAR data is public and free to download; see the [SEC's accessing EDGAR data page](https://www.sec.gov/search-filings/edgar-search-assistance/accessing-edgar-data) for its fair-access policy. This Actor is not affiliated with or endorsed by the SEC.
- The Actor returns filing metadata and links, not the filing text. Company-level fields only; it does not extract insider or shareholder details.
- `ticker` is the company's primary current ticker. Companies that no longer trade may have none: use their CIK.
- If a ticker is not found or nothing matches, the run reports it and you pay only for rows returned.
- This Actor was built and is maintained with AI assistance, with human review. Issues are answered within a few days.

# Actor input Schema

## `userAgentContact` (type: `string`):

The SEC asks every automated client to identify itself with a name and contact email, sent as the User-Agent header. Enter yours, e.g. Acme Research admin@acme.example. If left empty, the Actor identifies itself as its publisher, Upton & Partners Ltd.

## `tickers` (type: `array`):

Stock tickers, e.g. AAPL, MSFT.

## `ciks` (type: `array`):

SEC Central Index Keys, e.g. 320193 or 0000320193. Use this for companies without a ticker.

## `formTypes` (type: `array`):

Only return these forms, e.g. 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, S-1, DEF 14A. Leave empty for every form type.

## `includeAmendments` (type: `boolean`):

Also return amended versions of the chosen forms, e.g. 10-K/A.

## `filedFrom` (type: `string`):

Earliest filing date, YYYY-MM-DD. Optional.

## `filedTo` (type: `string`):

Latest filing date, YYYY-MM-DD. Optional.

## `maxFilings` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many filings per company (newest first).
