## Pricing

Pay per usage

This Actor is paid per platform usage. The Actor is free to use, and you only pay for the Apify platform usage, which gets cheaper the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Scento Perfume API

Ask **Scento Perfume API**, built on Scento's verified perfume database, from Apify. Search 1,400+ designer and niche perfumes, draw a perfume's portrait with its top, heart and base notes, set two scents side by side, look up 400+ raw materials and 140+ houses, or compose a small fragrance wardrobe. Every answer carries a citable page on [scento.com](https://www.scento.com). No API key, no account on our side.

Scento is Europe's largest perfume decant website, founded in Paris in 2024. Scento Perfume API is how we share what we know about fragrance notes with people and their assistants.

### What you get

Each run returns dataset rows. A search returns one row per match (kind, name, house, family and the scento.com page). Every other tool returns one row holding the full answer: a quotable lede, a detail object, the page to read on, further reading and a cite line. The complete answer is also stored under the `OUTPUT` key.

### Input

Quick search:

```json
{ "query": "oud" }
```

Any of the twelve tools:

```json
{ "tool": "perfume-portrait", "arguments": { "perfume": "Delina" } }
```

```json
{ "tool": "perfume-contrast", "arguments": { "perfumes": ["Eau Sauvage", "Oud Wood"] } }
```

| Tool | What it answers |
|---|---|
| `perfume-search` | Search perfumes, materials and houses |
| `perfume-portrait` | Family, note pyramid, character and when it wears best |
| `scent-neighbours` | Perfumes that share a structure with one you name |
| `perfume-contrast` | Two or three perfumes side by side |
| `note-portrait` | A raw material: smell, origin, pairings |
| `material-match` | Perfumes built on the materials you list |
| `house-portrait` | A perfume house and its signatures |
| `family-map` / `occasion-edit` / `wardrobe-composer` | Scento's family system, an edit for an occasion, a small wardrobe |
| `perfumery-lexicon` / `journal-search` | A perfumery term, or the Scento journal |

Argument names for every tool are listed in the [developer docs](https://www.scento.com/developers#tools).

### Use it from an AI assistant

Any public Actor can be called by MCP clients through Apify's MCP server at https://mcp.apify.com. Add `scento/scento-perfume-compendium` to its tools and your assistant can look up perfumes and notes mid-conversation. For a direct connection with all twelve tools and no run costs, use Scento's own MCP server below.
