## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## StepStone Jobs Scraper: Germany job listings by keyword, location and radius

Scrape **job listings from StepStone.de** and get one clean dataset: **title, company, location, posted date, expiry date, estimated salary range, remote flag, job URL, company URL and a text snippet**, plus, if you ask for it, the **full job description, employment type and industry**. Search by **keyword and location** (with radius), or paste any StepStone search URL. Filter by **posted-since, remote, title words and employment type before you pay**. Export to JSON, CSV or Excel, or call it from the API.

Use it for **job-market and hiring-trend research, salary benchmarks, lead lists for recruiters and staffing firms, competitor hiring signals, job aggregators and alerts, and LLM/RAG pipelines**. Works with AI agents through the Apify MCP server. It reads public search and job pages only: no login, no cookies, no personal data.

**Same schema as our [ATS Jobs Scraper](https://apify.com/santis_hermes/ats-jobs-scraper) and [Workday, SmartRecruiters & Personio Jobs Scraper](https://apify.com/santis_hermes/workday-jobs-scraper)**: company career sites and the biggest German job board in one dataset shape (`company, platform, companyName, jobId, title, location, locations[], isRemote, employmentType, postedAt, jobUrl, salaryMin/Max...`), so rows can be merged.

### Why this one

- **Filters that work before charging.** Keyword, location and radius are applied by StepStone itself; posted-since (1, 7, 30 days server-side, exact cut-off on the date), remote, title words and employment type are applied by the actor. Jobs that do not match are not returned and not charged.
- **Simple pricing.** $0.0007 per job, +$0.0003 per job only if you switch on descriptions. `Max jobs in total` caps every run.
- **Keeps running when a page fails.** A bad URL or a page that does not load gets one error row with the reason; other searches continue. It stops politely after 3 failed pages in a row.
- **Salary with honesty.** StepStone shows an estimated range on most jobs; we return it with `salaryIsEstimate: true` and "(StepStone estimate)" in `salarySummary`. It is not the employer's figure.
- **No personal data.** Job fields only. No recruiter or contact names, emails or phone numbers.
- **Run summary.** A `RUN_SUMMARY` record lists pages, jobs and errors per search, MB downloaded, HTTP statuses and charged events.

### Input

| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| StepStone search URLs | Optional. e.g. `https://www.stepstone.de/jobs/data-analyst/in-berlin` (set filters on stepstone.de first, then paste the address) |
| Keywords / Locations | Optional, one per line; every keyword is searched in every location. Locations: German cities ("München", "Berlin"). Keyword only = all of Germany |
| Radius (km) | Optional, applied by StepStone |
| Posted in the last N days | Optional |
| Remote / home-office jobs only | Default off. StepStone has no server-side remote filter, so this checks the job's work-from-home label and "remote / home office / mobiles Arbeiten" in title and location |
| Title must contain | Optional words, all must appear in the title |
| Employment types | Optional (full time, part time, contract, temporary, internship); needs one job page per candidate |
| Max jobs in total / Max pages per search | Default 100 / 20 (25 jobs per page) |
| Include job description | Default off. One extra page load per job; `job-detail` event |
| Pacing, Proxy | 2 s between page loads; Apify datacenter proxy by default |

### Output

Job row: `company, platform ("stepstone"), companyName, jobId, title, department, team, location, locations[], workplaceType, employmentType, postedAt, updatedAt, jobUrl, applyUrl, requisitionId, isRemote, salaryMin, salaryMax, salaryCurrency, salaryInterval, salarySummary, salaryIsEstimate, expiresAt, companyId, companyUrl, snippet, industry, postalCode, country, source, searchUrl, scrapedAt` and, with descriptions on, `descriptionText`. `employmentType` and `industry` are filled only with descriptions on. Error row: `type: "error", input, error, httpStatus`. See `sample-output.json`.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.0007 per job** ($0.70 per 1,000), **$0.0003 per job description** (only if switched on), $0.00005 per run start. Error rows, filtered-out jobs and duplicates are not charged. 1,000 jobs with descriptions = $1.00.

### Public listings only, no personal data

The actor loads only public StepStone search and job pages that any visitor can open and reads the job data embedded in them. It does not log in, does not read or return recruiter or contact details, and does not bypass any account wall. Job postings belong to the employers and to StepStone: you are responsible for using the data in line with applicable law and StepStone's terms.

### Notes and limits

- Not an official StepStone product. Page structure can change without notice.
- StepStone does not answer plain requests from many cloud addresses; the actor uses Apify datacenter proxy (default) and retries with a fresh session after a failed page. Do not switch to residential proxy unless you see blocks (higher cost).
- Germany (stepstone.de) only. A search page shows at most the first pages of results StepStone returns; very broad searches are best split by location.
- StepStone search is fuzzy: a keyword with few real matches still returns loosely related jobs. Use "Title must contain" to tighten.
- About 25 jobs per page load, 2 s apart: 100 jobs take about 10 s; with descriptions about 3 s per job.

### FAQ

**How much does it cost?** $0.0007 per job, $0.0003 more per job with description. 1,000 jobs = $0.70 ($1.00 with descriptions).
**Do I need an API key or account?** No.
**Can I get recruiter emails?** No. Job data only.
**Austria or Belgium?** Not yet; stepstone.de only.
**Export formats?** JSON, CSV, Excel, XML, HTML, RSS, or integrations such as Make, Zapier, n8n, Google Sheets.
**Something broke?** Open an issue on the Actor's Issues tab with the run link.

### Use with AI agents / MCP

Agents can call this Actor through the [Apify MCP server](https://mcp.apify.com): find it with `search-actors` ("stepstone jobs scraper") and call it by name.

- Actor: `santis_hermes/stepstone-scraper`
- Example prompt: "List data analyst jobs in Berlin posted in the last 7 days on StepStone, with estimated salary."
- Minimal input:

```json
{
  "keywords": ["data analyst"],
  "locations": ["Berlin"],
  "postedSinceDays": 7,
  "maxItems": 50
}
```

### Feedback

If this saved you time, a rating on the Store page helps others find it. If it did not work for you, please open an issue on the Issues tab with the run link and I will look at it.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Optional. StepStone.de search-result addresses, for example https://www.stepstone.de/jobs/data-analyst/in-berlin. Open stepstone.de, search, set any filters you like and paste the address. Only stepstone.de/jobs/... pages are supported. Leave empty and use Keywords and Locations instead if you prefer.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Optional. Job titles or skills to search, one per line, for example 'data analyst' or 'pflegefachkraft'. Each keyword is searched in each location below. Leave empty to list all jobs of a location.

## `locations` (type: `array`):

Optional. German cities or regions, one per line, for example 'Berlin' or 'München'. Leave empty for all of Germany (needs a keyword).

## `radiusKm` (type: `integer`):

Optional. Search radius around the location in kilometres, applied by StepStone itself (for example 10, 30, 50). Only used with Keywords/Locations or a start URL without a radius.

## `postedSinceDays` (type: `integer`):

Optional. Keep only jobs posted within the last N days. StepStone filters 1, 7 and 30 days itself; the exact cut-off is then applied to each job's posting date. Jobs older than the cut-off are not returned and not charged.

## `remoteOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only jobs marked as remote or home office by StepStone, or with remote / home office / mobiles Arbeiten in the title or location. Other jobs are not charged.

## `titleContains` (type: `array`):

Optional. A job is kept only if its title contains ALL of these words (case-insensitive), for example 'senior' and 'python'. StepStone search is fuzzy, so this tightens the results. Filtered-out jobs are not charged.

## `employmentTypes` (type: `array`):

Optional. Keep only these employment types (full time, part time, contract, temporary, internship). The type is only on the job page, so every candidate job needs one extra page load; the run is slower, jobs that do not match are not charged.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Hard cap on jobs returned in this run, over all searches. You are charged per job returned, so this caps the cost of a run.

## `maxPagesPerSearch` (type: `integer`):

StepStone shows 25 jobs per result page. The run stops at this many pages per search (20 pages = up to 500 jobs).

## `includeDetails` (type: `boolean`):

Open every job page and add the description as plain text, the employment type (full time, part time...) and the industry. One extra page load per job, so the run is slower and an extra 'job-detail' event is charged per job.

## `descriptionMaxChars` (type: `integer`):

Cut the description text after this many characters. Only used when 'Include job description' is on.

## `pacingSeconds` (type: `integer`):

Minimum pause between two StepStone page loads. 2 is polite and fast enough; raise it if you see many errors.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

StepStone does not answer plain requests from many cloud addresses. The default is Apify datacenter proxy (group BUYPROXIES94952), which worked in our tests and is included in your Apify plan. Do not switch to residential unless you see blocks: it costs far more.
