## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## BBB Business Leads: Phones, Ratings & Accreditation

**Local business leads from the Better Business Bureau directory.** Give it business types (roofing, plumber, dentist, HVAC, auto repair...) and cities or ZIP codes across the **US and Canada**, and get one row per business:

- **Contact:** business name, phone numbers, street address, city, state, ZIP, coordinates
- **Trust signals:** BBB rating (A+ to F), rating score, **BBB accredited** status
- **What they do:** main category, all BBB categories, service areas
- **Links:** BBB profile and request-a-quote page

Filter to **accredited** or **A-rated** businesses to get the established, reputable ones first. For **local lead generation, home-services marketing, B2B sales and agencies** building prospect lists.

No account, no key, no proxy.

### Uses

- **Home-services lead lists:** roofers, plumbers, HVAC, electricians and contractors by city, with phone and rating
- **Agencies:** prospect accredited local businesses that already invest in their reputation
- **Market sizing:** how many rated businesses work a category in each metro
- **Pair it with** [Google Maps Scraper](https://apify.com/scrapemint/google-maps-scraper) for websites and reviews, and [Website Contact Scraper](https://apify.com/scrapemint/website-contact-scraper) for emails

### Pricing

- **$0.002** per business
- No start fee. A run that finds nothing is free.

500 businesses cost $1.00.

### Notes

- BBB returns up to 225 businesses (15 pages) per search term and location. Add more cities or ZIP codes for wider coverage; duplicates across searches are dropped.
- Results come from BBB's directory search, so there are no emails or websites. BBB profile pages are linked in `bbbProfileUrl`.
- BBB search also returns neighbouring trades (a roofing search brings some general contractors). Turn on `strictMatch` to keep only businesses whose name or categories contain the term.
- Businesses BBB marks as out of business are left out.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchTerms` (type: `array`):

What to search for, e.g. plumber, roofing, dentist, HVAC, auto repair. A business name works too.

## `locations` (type: `array`):

City and state or ZIP code, e.g. Austin, TX or 10001 or Toronto, ON. Each search term runs in each location.

## `country` (type: `string`):

BBB covers the US and Canada.

## `accreditedOnly` (type: `boolean`):

## `minRating` (type: `string`):

## `requirePhone` (type: `boolean`):

Skip listings that show no phone.

## `strictMatch` (type: `boolean`):

BBB search also returns related trades (a roofing search brings some general contractors and gutter companies). On = keep only businesses whose name or BBB categories contain the search term.

## `maxResultsPerSearch` (type: `integer`):

Per search term and location. BBB shows up to 225 (15 pages) per search, so add more cities or ZIP codes for wider coverage.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many businesses across all searches.
