## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

## INDECOPI Peru Trademark Search Scraper

> Search Peru's INDECOPI trademark register (signos distintivos) by brand name and get the trademark, its owner, Nice class, status, certificate or file number, expiry date and a direct link to the official record. Phonetic matching surfaces similar-sounding marks, so it is ideal for trademark clearance, competitor watch and IP portfolio monitoring.

### What you get

For every matching trademark the scraper returns clean, flat fields ready for a spreadsheet:

- **trademarkName** and **applicantName** (owner / titular)
- **niceClass** and **classDescription** (goods or services covered)
- **status** (registered or pending application) and **signType** (word mark or logo)
- **certificateNumber** / **expediente** (file number) and **registrationYear**
- **expiryDate** of the registration
- **recordUrl** — a direct link to the official INDECOPI record
- plus **country**, **searchTerm**, **office**, **registryId** and **observedAt**

The phonetic search also returns marks that merely *sound* similar to your term, which is exactly what you want when checking whether a new brand name is free to use.

### Who is it for

| Use case | Who benefits |
|---|---|
| Trademark clearance | Branding agencies and startups checking if a name is available in Peru |
| Competitor monitoring | IP teams watching rivals' new filings and renewals |
| IP law firms | Attorneys building watch lists and prior-rights evidence |
| Market research | Analysts mapping who owns which brands by category |

### How to use it

1. Add one or more **Trademark Names** to search (the search is phonetic, so similar names are included).
2. Optionally choose which **Nice Classes** to search (1-45). Leave empty to search every class.
3. Toggle **Only In-Force Trademarks** if you want to exclude expired and pending records.
4. Set **Max Trademark Records** and run. Export as JSON, CSV or Excel, or pull it through the Apify API.

You are only charged for real records returned; empty searches cost nothing.

### Frequently Asked Questions

**What is a Nice class?**
The Nice Classification groups goods and services into 45 classes. A trademark is registered for specific classes, so the same word can be owned by different companies in different classes. Leave the class field empty to search all 45.

**Is the search exact or phonetic?**
Phonetic. Searching a name also returns marks that sound alike, which is the standard way to assess whether a new name conflicts with existing rights.

**What does the status mean?**
`Registered` means an issued certificate that is in force; `Pending application` means a file still in process. Use the "Only In-Force Trademarks" toggle to keep only active registrations.

**How fresh is the data?**
Every record is read live at run time and stamped with `observedAt`.

### Export, API and AI agents (x402 + MCP)

Export the scraped data to **JSON, CSV or Excel**, pull it as a **dataset** through the Apify **API**, or wire it into your app with **no code**. This web scraper and data extractor also works for bulk data extraction and scheduled runs.

For AI agents: this Actor is available on **x402**, Apify's agentic payment standard built with Coinbase. An AI agent can discover, pay for and run it on its own with a funded wallet and a single HTTP request: no account, no subscription, no API key and no human in the loop. It also runs as an **MCP** tool inside Claude, Cursor and other AI clients out of the box. Learn more about [x402 agentic payments on Apify](https://docs.apify.com/platform/integrations/x402).

# Actor input Schema

## `trademarkNames` (type: `array`):

One or more brand / trademark names to search in Peru's INDECOPI register. The search is phonetic, so it also returns similar-sounding marks (useful for clearance and competitor monitoring). Each name is searched across the selected Nice classes.

## `niceClasses` (type: `array`):

Nice classification classes (1-45) to search within. Leave empty to search ALL 45 classes for each name. Fewer classes = faster and cheaper runs.

## `onlyActive` (type: `boolean`):

If enabled, return only trademarks currently in force. If disabled, return all matches including expired and pending records.

## `maxRecords` (type: `integer`):

Maximum number of trademark records to collect across the whole run.

```json
  ],
  "niceClasses": [
    "29",
  "onlyActive": false,
  "maxRecords": 10
}
