## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Europages Scraper — B2B Supplier Leads

Scrape **B2B industrial supplier leads** from [Europages](https://www.europages.co.uk) by product
keyword. For any product, material, or capability (e.g. `cnc machining`, `plastic injection molding`,
`steel fabrication`, `packaging machinery`, `organic cosmetics`) it returns the matching company
directory — 30 companies per page — as clean, structured rows ready for CRM import or enrichment.

### What you get per company

| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| `companyId`, `uuid`, `slug` | stable IDs; `companyId` is the dedupe key |
| `name`, `description` | company name + long description |
| `phoneNumber` | business phone (when published) |
| `homepage` | the company's own website — the enrichment target |
| `email`, `emailExists` | Europages usually gates the email behind its own contact form, so `email` is often blank while `emailExists` flags that one is on file (a known Europages behaviour, not a scrape miss) |
| `street`, `city`, `zipcode`, `countryCode` | full postal address |
| `latitude`, `longitude` | geo |
| `employeeCount`, `foundingYear`, `certificatesCount` | firmographics |
| `supplierTypes`, `distributionArea` | manufacturer / wholesaler / distributor, sales area |
| `averageResponseTime`, `responseRate` | Europages responsiveness metrics |
| `productCount`, `portfolioProducts[]` | product sub-rows: name, description, keywords, images, slug |
| `profileUrl`, `logoUrl` | Europages profile link + logo |
| `searchKeyword`, `scraped_at` | provenance |

### Input

- **keyword** — the product/keyword to search (e.g. `cnc machining`).
- **keywords** — optional extra keywords searched in the same run.
- **maxItems** — stop after N unique companies (0 = all, up to a safety cap).
- **maxPages** — result pages per keyword (30/page); auto-capped to what Europages reports.
- **proxyConfiguration** — Apify **datacenter** proxy (default and required, see below).

### How it works

Europages is a Nuxt SSR site. Each search page embeds a `__NUXT_DATA__` payload (a devalue-serialized
array) that this actor reconstructs and reads structurally — no fragile DOM scraping. Direct HTTP is
hard-blocked by an AWS WAF challenge (HTTP 202, empty body); routing through **Apify datacenter proxy**
with a fresh session per request clears the wall reliably. Residential/browser tiers are **not** needed.

### Pricing

Pay-per-result: **$1.80 per 1,000 leads** ($0.0018 each), charged only for the unique rows delivered —
among the cheapest Europages scrapers on the store.

### Legal / compliance

This actor collects **public company-directory data** (business name, address, phone, website). That is
a standard B2B lead-generation use case. You are responsible for using it in compliance with
Europages' Terms of Service and with any applicable data-protection law (e.g. GDPR) — any personal data
in the output is your responsibility to handle lawfully.

# Actor input Schema

## `keyword` (type: `string`):

What to search on Europages — a product, material, or industrial capability. Examples: "cnc machining", "plastic injection molding", "steel fabrication", "packaging machinery", "organic cosmetics".

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Optional extra keywords to scrape in the same run (each searched separately). Leave empty to just use the single keyword above.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after this many unique companies (cost/speed guard). Set 0 for every result across all pages up to the safety cap.

## `maxPages` (type: `integer`):

How many result pages to walk per keyword (30 companies per page). Automatically capped at the number of pages Europages actually reports for the search.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify datacenter proxy is REQUIRED and is the default — Europages hard-blocks direct requests with an AWS WAF challenge (HTTP 202, empty body). Datacenter (a fresh session per request) clears the wall reliably; no residential or browser needed.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "keyword": "cnc machining",
  "keywords": [],
  "maxItems": 30,
  "maxPages": 2,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": true
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `records` (type: `string`):

The dataset of scraped Europages company leads (one item per company).
