## What's an Apify Actor?

Actors are web data automations that power AI and operations. They run on the Apify platform to scrape websites, process data, connect APIs, and automate workflows.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.
Actors are written with capital "A".

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.
The best way to integrate Actors is as follows.

- **AI agents and MCP clients** — the [Apify MCP server](https://docs.apify.com/integrations/mcp.md) at `https://mcp.apify.com` (remote, streamable HTTP, OAuth on first use).
- **Agentic workflows and local Actor development** — [Agent Skills](https://apify.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json) with the [Apify CLI](https://docs.apify.com/cli/docs.md): `npm install -g apify-cli`, then `apify login`.
- **JavaScript/TypeScript projects** — the official [JS/TS client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md): `npm install apify-client`.
- **Python projects** — the official [Python client](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md): `pip install apify-client`.
- **Any other language** — the [REST API](https://docs.apify.com/api/v2.md).

For usage examples, see the [API](#api) section below.

# README

## Tripadvisor Scraper — Restaurants, Hotels & Attractions

Turn any Tripadvisor **city page** into a clean lead list. Paste a Restaurants,
Hotels, or Attractions URL for a city and the actor paginates the whole listing
and returns one structured row per place — no login, no API key.

### What you get per place

| Field | Restaurants | Hotels | Attractions |
|---|:-:|:-:|:-:|
| name, url, rating, review count, price | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |
| phone | ✅ | ✅ | — |
| email | — | ✅ (when listed) | — |
| full address + postal code | ✅ | ✅ | — |
| latitude / longitude | ✅ | ✅ | — |
| cuisines / establishment types | ✅ | type only | category |
| open status + weekly hours | ✅ | — | — |
| delivery / reservation flags, menu URL | ✅ | — | — |
| price range (USD) + class ranking | — | ✅ | — |
| photo | ✅ | ✅ | ✅ |

Every row carries `location_id` — the same id in the place's review-detail URL —
so this list joins directly to the **Tripadvisor Reviews Scraper**.

> **Attractions note:** Tripadvisor's Attractions cover page is a *things-to-do*
> feed (bookable tours + points of interest). Rows carry name, rating, reviews,
> per-person price and URL, but **not** phone/address/geo — those are on the
> place's own page, not the city feed.

### Input

- **startUrls** — one or more city-listing URLs:
  - `https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g60763-New_York_City_New_York-Hotels.html`
  - `https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g60763-Activities-New_York_City_New_York.html`
- **maxResultsPerCity** — cap per URL (0 = all)
- **minRating**, **minReviews**, **keyword**, **onlyWithPhone** — filters
- **proxyConfiguration** — keep the default **RESIDENTIAL (US)**; datacenter IPs
  are hard-blocked by Tripadvisor's anti-bot.

### Pricing

Pay-per-result: **$0.004 per unique place returned**. Deduplicated by place, so
you never pay twice for the same listing across pages or overlapping city URLs.

### Legality

This actor scrapes only **publicly visible** business-listing pages and returns
**business** data (venue name, public phone/email/address, rating). You are
responsible for using it in compliance with Tripadvisor's Terms of Service and
with all applicable data-protection laws in your jurisdiction.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

One or more Tripadvisor city-listing page URLs. Supported page kinds:
• Restaurants — https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurants-g60763-New\_York\_City\_New\_York.html
• Hotels — https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g60763-New\_York\_City\_New\_York-Hotels.html
• Attractions — https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g60763-Activities-New\_York\_City\_New\_York.html
Open the city page on tripadvisor.com and copy the URL. The actor paginates through the whole list (up to the cap below) and dedupes by place.

## `maxResultsPerCity` (type: `integer`):

Hard cap on places returned per city URL (cost/safety guard). ~30 organic places load per page. Defaults to 60. Set 0 to pull EVERY place in the city.

## `minRating` (type: `integer`):

Only keep places with at least this bubble rating. 0 = no floor.

## `minReviews` (type: `integer`):

Only keep places with at least this many reviews (filters out sparse/new listings). 0 = no floor.

## `keyword` (type: `string`):

Only keep places whose name, cuisine, or category contains this keyword (case-insensitive). E.g. 'italian', 'boutique', 'museum'.

## `onlyWithPhone` (type: `boolean`):

Keep only rows that have a phone number (restaurants & hotels carry phone; attractions do not).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Tripadvisor sits behind an Akamai/DataDome-class anti-bot. RESIDENTIAL (country US) is the default and the only tier that clears reliably — datacenter IPs get hard-blocked. Keep the default unless you know what you're doing.

## `diagnose` (type: `boolean`):

Dev only. Fetches page 1 of the first city URL, dumps the parsed listing to the key-value store (DEBUG\_LISTING) and logs the first record, then exits.
