## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Crunchbase Company Scraper

Scrape **Crunchbase company profiles** as clean structured JSON without a Crunchbase account - name, legal name, aliases, short and full description, logo, website, headquarters, operating / IPO status and stock symbol, company type, employee range, industries and industry groups, hub tags, CB rank, growth and heat scores with their 90-day changes, founders, key people, board members, funding rounds with their investors and lead investors, investors, acquisitions, investments, sub-organizations, similar companies, products, contact email and phone, social links, web traffic, technology counts, IPO / acquisition / funding predictions, key events (product launches, partnerships, awards, layoffs, executive changes, legal proceedings) with their press sources, offices and recent news.

Or **search companies by name** and get Crunchbase's matching organizations - optionally with their full profiles.

### What you get - read this first

The data is what Crunchbase shows a visitor who is **not logged in**. Values Crunchbase keeps for paying users - founded / closed / IPO dates, total funding, funding round dates and amounts, acquisition prices, exits and valuation - come back as **`null`**, and each profile's `paywalledFields` names the ones Crunchbase holds for that company. Counts such as `numFundingRounds` and `numInvestors`, round types, investor names and everything listed above are included.

### Features

- **Company profiles** - from a Crunchbase profile URL or its slug (`openai`, `n26`). Every key is always present (null when Crunchbase has no value), so the dataset has a stable shape.
- **Search by name** - up to 25 matches per name, best match first (name, slug, URL, short description, logo), plus the total number of matches on Crunchbase in the `SEARCHES` record.
- **Search + full profiles** - turn on `fetchProfiles` to get the full profile of every match in one run.
- **Deduplicated** - a company given twice, or found by several searches, is fetched and billed once.

### Use cases

- **Lead generation and enrichment** - add website, HQ, employee range, industries, contact email, phone and social links to a list of companies.
- **Investor and market research** - who invested, round types, lead investors, similar companies, CB rank and heat scores.
- **Competitive intelligence** - track products, key events, layoffs, executive changes and news of competitors.
- **CRM hygiene** - find the right Crunchbase organization for a company name, then pull its profile.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | Description |
|-------|------|---------|-------------|
| `organizations` | array | - | Crunchbase profile URLs or slugs. |
| `searchQueries` | array | - | Company names to search for. |
| `maxResultsPerQuery` | integer | `10` | Matches per name (1-25). |
| `fetchProfiles` | boolean | `false` | Fetch the full profile of every search match. |

`organizations` and `searchQueries` can be combined. A run with neither uses two example companies.

#### Example input

```json
{
  "organizations": ["https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/openai", "stripe"],
  "searchQueries": ["Revolut"],
  "maxResultsPerQuery": 3,
  "fetchProfiles": true
}
```

### Output

One dataset item per company. A full profile (`source: "organization"`, shortened):

```json
{
  "name": "N26",
  "slug": "n26",
  "url": "https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/n26",
  "legalName": "N26, AG.",
  "shortDescription": "N26 is a financial services company that offers mobile banking solutions.",
  "website": "https://n26.com",
  "headquarters": {"city": "Berlin", "region": "Berlin", "country": "Germany", "continent": "Europe", "text": "Berlin, Berlin, Germany"},
  "operatingStatus": "active",
  "ipoStatus": "private",
  "employeeRange": "1001-5000",
  "industries": ["Banking", "Cryptocurrency", "Finance", "Financial Services", "FinTech"],
  "rank": 6549,
  "growthScore": 50,
  "heatScore": 63,
  "founders": [{"name": "Maximilian Tayenthal", "slug": "maximilian-tayenthal", "url": "https://www.crunchbase.com/person/maximilian-tayenthal"}],
  "lastFundingType": "Series E",
  "numFundingRounds": 11,
  "numInvestors": 27,
  "foundedOn": null,
  "fundingTotal": null,
  "fundingRounds": [{"name": "Series E - N26", "type": "Series E", "moneyRaised": null, "numInvestors": 6, "leadInvestors": [{"name": "Coatue"}]}],
  "contactEmail": "hello@n26.com",
  "phone": "+49 30 364 286 880",
  "socialLinks": {"linkedin": "https://www.linkedin.com/company/n26", "twitter": "https://x.com/n26"},
  "webTraffic": {"monthlyVisits": 3680297, "monthlyVisitsChange": 0.07},
  "paywalledFields": ["valuation", "foundedOn", "fundingTotal", "lastFundingAt"],
  "source": "organization",
  "input": "n26"
}
```

A search match without `fetchProfiles` (`source: "search"`):

```json
{
  "name": "Revolut",
  "slug": "revolut",
  "uuid": "54f2785f-ad03-aec5-eb87-784010a9b684",
  "url": "https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/revolut",
  "shortDescription": "Revolut is a financial technology company that offers banking services, money transfers, foreign exchange, and spending analytics.",
  "logo": "https://images.crunchbase.com/image/upload/...",
  "source": "search",
  "searchQuery": "Revolut",
  "position": 1
}
```

The key-value store also holds:

- `SEARCHES` - per searched name: the number of matching organizations on Crunchbase and the slugs returned.
- `ERRORS` - companies or names that returned nothing (unknown slug, no match, blocked) with the reason. These are **not billed**.

### Pricing

**$2.50 per 1000 companies** - a full profile and a search match cost the same. You pay only for companies delivered; failed inputs are not charged.

### Notes

- Paywalled values are `null` (see above); `paywalledFields` tells which of them Crunchbase has for the company.
- Search matches come from Crunchbase's own search box and are fuzzy: a name always returns its closest matches. Check `name` / `shortDescription`, or use the slug when you know it.

# Actor input Schema

## `organizations` (type: `array`):

Crunchbase organization profile URLs (https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/openai) or their slugs (openai, n26). One full profile per company. Empty runs use the examples only when Search by name is empty too.

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Company names to look up, e.g. 'Revolut'. Each name returns Crunchbase's matching organizations (name, slug, URL, short description, logo) - or their full profiles with 'Fetch full profiles' on.

## `maxResultsPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

How many matches to return for each name (1-25), best match first.

## `fetchProfiles` (type: `boolean`):

Off: each match is a short record (name, slug, URL, short description, logo). On: each match is fetched as a full company profile. Either way you pay per company returned; a company found twice is returned once.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "organizations": [
    "openai",
    "https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/n26"
  ],
  "maxResultsPerQuery": 10,
  "fetchProfiles": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One item per company, with `source` = organization (full profile) or search (search match)

## `searches` (type: `string`):

Per searched name: how many organizations match on Crunchbase and the slugs returned

## `errors` (type: `string`):

Companies or names that returned nothing (unknown slug, no match, or blocked), with the reason (not billed)
