## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Yelp Reviews Scraper

Scrape **Yelp reviews** of any business as clean structured JSON - star rating, full review text, language, date and time, reviewer name, location, Elite status and review / friend / photo counts, review photos and videos, Helpful / Thanks / Love this / Oh no reactions, check-ins, the owner's public reply and the reviewer's earlier reviews of the same business. Many businesses in one run, up to 5000 reviews each. No Yelp account, no API key, no proxies to configure.

### Features

- **Any business input** - a Yelp business page URL, its alias (`gary-danko-san-francisco`) or its Yelp business id. The id is the fastest; the run's `BUSINESSES` record returns it for next time.
- **Yelp's own sort orders** - newest, oldest, Yelp sort (relevance), highest rated, lowest rated, Elite reviewers first.
- **Filters** - review language, star ratings (e.g. only 1 and 2 stars), a keyword the review must mention, and a date (`since`).
- **Full review data** - rating, text, language, ISO date and local date-time, photos (URL, caption, size), videos, reactions, check-ins, first-to-review and Review of the Day flags, updated-review history (`previousReviews`) and the owner's reply with its date and author.
- **Reviewer data** - name, location, profile URL, avatar, review count, friend count, photo count, Elite status and year.
- **Business summary** - the `BUSINESSES` record has the business rating, review count, 1-5 star histogram, review counts per language, categories, city and region.
- **Deduplicated** - the same business given twice (URL, alias or id) is collected once.

### Use cases

- **Reputation monitoring** - a scheduled run with `Newest first` and `since` delivers every new review of your locations or your competitors'.
- **Complaint analysis** - pull only 1 and 2 star reviews, or reviews mentioning "wait time" or "parking".
- **Market research** - compare what customers say about restaurants, clinics or shops in a city.
- **Sentiment and LLM pipelines** - feed clean review text, ratings and dates into BI tools, spreadsheets or an LLM for summaries.

The key-value store also holds:

- `BUSINESSES` - per business: id, alias, name, URL, rating, review count, star histogram, review counts per language, categories, city, region, image, the reviews in the chosen view and the reviews collected.
- `ERRORS` - businesses that returned no reviews (unknown business, no match for the filters, blocked) with the reason. These are **not billed**.

### Pricing

**$0.30 per 1000 reviews.** You pay only for reviews delivered; failed businesses are not charged.

### Notes

- Yelp lists reviews **one language at a time**. Without a `language` the scraper reads the language most of the business's reviews are in; the `BUSINESSES` record shows how many reviews exist in each language, so you can run the others too.
- With `since`, use `Newest first` for the fastest monitoring runs: paging stops at the first older review.

# Actor input Schema

## `businesses` (type: `array`):

Yelp businesses to collect reviews for: the business page URL (https://www.yelp.com/biz/gary-danko-san-francisco), its alias (gary-danko-san-francisco) or its Yelp business id (WavvLdfdP6g8aZTtbBQHTw). An id is the fastest; a URL or alias costs one extra page load the first time.

## `maxReviewsPerBusiness` (type: `integer`):

How many reviews to collect for each business (1-5000). Up to 500 reviews are read per request, so even large numbers take only a few requests.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

The order Yelp lists the reviews in, as yelp.com's 'Sort by' menu.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Optional two-letter language code (en, fr, de, es, ...). Yelp lists one review language at a time; empty = the language most of the business's reviews are written in. The BUSINESSES record lists the review count per language.

## `ratings` (type: `array`):

Optional. Only reviews with these star ratings, e.g. 1 and 2 for complaints.

## `searchQuery` (type: `string`):

Optional. Only reviews that mention this phrase, e.g. 'parking' or 'gluten free' (yelp.com's review search).

## `since` (type: `string`):

Optional. Only reviews written on or after this date (YYYY-MM-DD). With 'Newest first' paging stops at the first older review, which makes monitoring runs fast.

}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
One item per review, with the business id, name and URL
## `businesses` (type: `string`):
Per business: rating, review count, star histogram, review counts per language, categories, city and the reviews collected
## `errors` (type: `string`):
Businesses that returned no reviews (unknown business, no match for the filters, or blocked), with the reason (not billed)
