# NVD CVE Search - Vulnerabilities, CVSS, CWE & CISA KEV (`se7enmethod/nvd-cve-search`) Actor

Search the NIST National Vulnerability Database by keyword, product CPE, CVSS severity, CWE, CISA KEV status, or published/modified date, or bulk-look-up CVE IDs. Returns CVSS v4/v3/v2 scores and vectors, CWEs, KEV dates, affected CPEs and references. Official NVD API 2.0.

## Pricing

$2.00 / 1,000 results

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## NVD CVE Search - Vulnerabilities, CVSS, CWE & CISA KEV

Search **300k+ CVEs** in the **NIST National Vulnerability Database** or **look up CVE IDs in bulk** through the official **NVD API 2.0**. No scraping, login or proxy; an API key is optional.

### Use cases

- **Vulnerability management**: pull every CRITICAL/HIGH CVE for your products (CPE) or keywords.
- **Daily monitoring**: schedule a run on the last day's modified CVEs, filtered to CISA KEV (known exploited).
- **Vendor risk & due diligence**: list CVEs for a vendor's products with CVSS and KEV status.
- **Enrichment**: turn a list of CVE IDs from a scanner into scores, CWEs, KEV deadlines and references.
- **Security content & RAG**: clean JSON with descriptions and references.

### Input

```json
{ "keywords": ["fortinet"], "cvssV3Severity": "CRITICAL", "pubStartDate": "2026-01-01", "maxPerQuery": 100 }
```

```json
{ "cveIds": ["CVE-2021-44228", "CVE-2024-3400"] }
```

### Output (one row per CVE)

`cveId, published, lastModified, vulnStatus, cvssV3Score, cvssV3Severity, cvssV3Vector, cvssV4Score, cvssV4Severity, cvssV2Score, inCisaKev, kevDateAdded, kevActionDue, kevRequiredAction, kevName, cwes, description, vulnerableCpes, references, nvdUrl`. Unknown CVE IDs, bad input and empty searches return `found: false` and are not charged.

### Pricing

Pay per result (per CVE returned).

### Speed

NVD's public limit is 5 requests per 30 seconds, so the actor waits ~6.5 s between requests (each request returns up to 2,000 CVEs). Bulk CVE ID lookups take one request each. Add your own free NVD API key for ~10x faster ID lookups.

### Notes

This product uses data from the NVD API but is not endorsed or certified by the NVD. NVD data is a US government work (public domain). Not affiliated with NIST.

# Actor input Schema

## `cveIds` (type: `array`):

Bulk lookup, e.g. CVE-2021-44228.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Searched in CVE descriptions, e.g. openssl, fortinet, wordpress plugin.

## `keywordExactMatch` (type: `boolean`):

Keywords as exact phrase.

## `cpeNames` (type: `array`):

e.g. cpe:2.3:a:apache:http_server:2.4.49:*:*:*:*:*:*:\* (exact version) or cpe:2.3:a:microsoft:exchange_server (all versions).

## `cvssV3Severity` (type: `string`):

CVSS v3 severity.

## `cweId` (type: `string`):

Optional, e.g. CWE-79.

## `onlyKev` (type: `boolean`):

Only CISA Known Exploited (KEV).

## `excludeRejected` (type: `boolean`):

Exclude rejected CVEs.

## `pubStartDate` (type: `string`):

Ranges longer than 120 days are split automatically.

## `pubEndDate` (type: `string`):

Published until (YYYY-MM-DD).

## `modStartDate` (type: `string`):

Used only when no published dates are set. Good for daily monitoring.

## `modEndDate` (type: `string`):

Modified until (YYYY-MM-DD).

## `apiKey` (type: `string`):

Free from nvd.nist.gov. Without it the actor waits ~6.5 s between requests (NVD public limit 5 per 30 s).

## `maxPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Max CVEs per query.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Max results.

## Actor input object example

  "keywords": [
    "log4j"
  ],
  "keywordExactMatch": false,
  "cvssV3Severity": "ANY",
  "onlyKev": false,
  "excludeRejected": true,
  "maxPerQuery": 200,
  "maxItems": 1000
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
All results in the default dataset (Overview view selected).
# API
You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.
## JavaScript example
```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';

// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});

// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "keywords": [
        "log4j"
    ]
};

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("se7enmethod/nvd-cve-search").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
