## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Bulk Domain Lookup – Availability, Age, Registrar & Expiry (RDAP)

Check **domain availability, registration date, domain age, registrar, expiry date, nameservers and DNSSEC** for hundreds of domains in one run. Built as a fast **bulk WHOIS / RDAP lookup** and **bulk domain availability checker** for domain investors, SEO teams, brand-protection, lead enrichment and security research.

No login, no proxy, no API key. It uses **RDAP**, the official JSON replacement for WHOIS, and finds the right registry server for each TLD through the **IANA RDAP bootstrap file**, so data comes straight from the registry (Verisign, PIR and others).

### What you get for every domain

- **Available:** `true` when the registry reports the domain as not registered.
- **Registered / expires / last changed** dates, **age in days and years**, **days until expiry**, `expiringSoon` (30 days) and `expired` flags.
- **Registrar** name and IANA registrar ID.
- **Status codes** (e.g. `client transfer prohibited`), **nameservers**, **DNSSEC** signed or not.

### Use cases

- Find **expiring or expired domains** to backorder.
- Check **hundreds of brand-name ideas** for availability at once.
- Filter **old domains** (age in years) for SEO and link building.
- Enrich lead lists with registrar and domain age as a trust signal.
- Monitor your own portfolio for upcoming expiries on a schedule.

### Input

| Field | Description | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `domains` | Domains, URLs or emails (domain is extracted, subdomains are reduced to the registrable domain) | required |
| `maxDomains` | Cap per run (also caps cost) | 1000 |
| `concurrency` | Parallel lookups | 5 |
| `includeRaw` | Attach the raw RDAP JSON | false |

```json
{ "domains": ["google.com", "my-new-brand.com", "https://www.example.org/page"] }
```

### Output (one item per domain)

```json
{
  "domain": "github.com", "tld": "com", "available": false,
  "registeredAt": "2007-10-09T18:20:50Z", "expiresAt": "2028-10-09T18:20:50Z",
  "ageYears": 19, "daysUntilExpiry": 723, "expiringSoon": false, "expired": false,
  "registrar": "MarkMonitor Inc.", "registrarIanaId": "292",
  "nameservers": ["dns1.p08.nsone.net"], "dnssecSigned": false
}
```

Download as JSON, CSV or Excel, or call it via the Apify API.

### Limits to know

- **Some TLDs have no public RDAP** (for example many country codes such as `.io` and `.sa`). Those domains are listed in the `ERRORS` record with the reason and are **not charged**.
- "Available" means the registry has no record. Premium or reserved names can still be unavailable to register.
- Registries rate-limit RDAP; the Actor retries and keeps concurrency low by default.

### Pricing

Pay per event: you are charged per **domain successfully looked up** (one result each), plus a tiny start fee. Failed lookups are not charged.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Domains to look up. URLs and email addresses are accepted; the domain is extracted. Subdomains are reduced to the registrable domain.

## `maxDomains` (type: `integer`):

Upper bound on domains looked up per run. This also caps your cost.

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

Parallel lookups. Keep low; registries rate-limit RDAP.

## `includeRaw` (type: `boolean`):

Add the full RDAP response to each registered domain.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "google.com",
    "example.org",
    "my-brand-name-12345.com"
  ],
  "maxDomains": 1000,
  "concurrency": 5,
  "includeRaw": false
}
```

## `results` (type: `string`):

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "domains": [
        "google.com",
        "example.org",
        "my-brand-name-12345.com"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("sea_sorghum/bulk-domain-lookup").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
