## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Gulf Arabic News Monitor – Saudi, UAE & Qatar headlines (RSS)

Track fresh **Arabic and English Gulf news headlines** from 8 outlets in one run, with **Arabic-aware keyword filtering** and a **"new articles only" monitor mode** for scheduled runs. No login, no browser, no proxy: it reads the public RSS feeds the outlets publish for syndication, so it is fast, cheap and stable.

### What it does

- Collects headline, summary, link, publish time (ISO 8601), author, categories and image URL.
- Covers Saudi, UAE, Qatar and pan-Arab outlets: Okaz (عكاظ), Almowaten (المواطن), Saudi Gazette, Asharq Al-Awsat (الشرق الأوسط), Sky News Arabia, Al Jazeera Arabic, Gulf Times, Al-Quds Al-Arabi.
- **Arabic-aware matching:** ignores tashkeel (diacritics) and tatweel, unifies إ/أ/آ→ا, ى→ي, ة→ه, and Arabic-Indic digits, so `اعلان` finds `إعلان`.
- **Monitor mode:** remembers links from previous runs and returns only new articles. Schedule it hourly or daily.
- De-duplicates links, filters by article age, caps items per source.

### Use cases

- Media monitoring and PR alerts for brands in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf
- Feeding Arabic news into LLM/RAG pipelines and AI agents
- Daily newsletters and Slack/Telegram digests
- Research on topic coverage (Arabic NLP datasets: headlines + summaries)

### Input

| Field | Description | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `sources` | Outlets to read | all 8 |
| `keywords` | Words to match in title/summary (Arabic or English) | none |
| `keywordMode` | `any` or `all` | `any` |
| `maxItemsPerSource` | Cap per outlet per run (also caps cost) | 50 |
| `maxAgeHours` | Skip older articles, 0 = no limit | 0 |
| `monitorMode` | Return only articles not seen before | false |
| `includeImages` | Include image URL | true |

Example:

```json
{ "sources": ["okaz", "aawsat", "skynewsarabia"], "keywords": ["الرياض", "نيوم"], "maxAgeHours": 24, "monitorMode": true }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "source": "okaz",
  "sourceName": "Okaz (عكاظ)",
  "country": "SA",
  "language": "ar",
  "title": "…",
  "url": "https://www.okaz.com.sa/…",
  "summary": "…",
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-18T01:20:27.000Z",
  "author": "…",
  "categories": ["…"],
  "imageUrl": "https://…",
  "matchedKeywords": ["الرياض"],
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-18T06:55:00.000Z"
}
```

A `STATS` record in the key-value store reports per-source counts and any feed errors.

### Pricing

Pay per event: you pay a small fixed price for each news item delivered (`news-item`) plus a tiny start fee. Use `maxItemsPerSource` to cap spend.

### Legal and responsible use

Only headline metadata that outlets publish in their public RSS feeds is collected (title, short summary, link). Full article text is not copied: follow the link to read the original at the publisher. Respect each outlet's terms when republishing content. This Actor is unofficial and not affiliated with any publisher.

### FAQ

**Why is a source missing items?** A feed may be temporarily down; check `STATS` for the error. Other sources still complete.
**Can you add another outlet?** Open an issue on the Actor page with the feed URL.

# Actor input Schema

## `sources` (type: `array`):

Which outlets to read. Leave all selected for a full Gulf sweep.

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Only return articles whose title or summary contains these words. Arabic matching ignores diacritics and spelling variants of alef, yaa and taa marbuta (e.g. إعلان / اعلان).

## `keywordMode` (type: `string`):

Match ANY keyword or ALL keywords.

## `maxItemsPerSource` (type: `integer`):

Upper bound per outlet per run. This also caps your cost.

## `maxAgeHours` (type: `integer`):

Skip articles older than this. 0 = no limit.

## `monitorMode` (type: `boolean`):

Remember articles from earlier runs and return only new ones. Use with a schedule.

## `includeImages` (type: `boolean`):

Add the article image URL to each record when the feed provides one.
