## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## UK BNPL Checker: Klarna, Clearpay & PayPal Pay in 3 Detector

**Check which buy-now-pay-later providers (Klarna, Clearpay, PayPal Pay in 3, Laybuy, Zilch...) a UK online shop offers, and which platform it runs on.**

### Who it's for

- Fintech and payments sales teams building merchant lead lists
- Agencies auditing e-commerce clients' checkout options
- Analysts measuring BNPL adoption across UK retailers

### Sample output

| domain | hasBnpl | bnplProviders | platform | status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| oliverbonas.com | True | Klarna | – | ok |
| boohoo.com | True | Clearpay, Klarna | – | ok |
| gymshark.com | True | Klarna | Shopify | ok |

*Real rows from a test run (shortened; the full output has more fields).*

### Price per 1,000 results

Main event: **`merchant-checked` at $0.003 each**, so **1,000 results = $3.00**. See the Pricing tab for the current prices.

### Input example

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "https://www.oliverbonas.com",
    "https://www.boohoo.com",
    "https://www.gymshark.com"
  ]
}
```

**Find out which buy-now-pay-later providers a UK online shop offers, and which e-commerce platform it runs on.** Paste a list of shop URLs and get, for each shop, **Klarna, Clearpay (Afterpay), PayPal Pay in 3, Laybuy, Zilch, PayL8r, Divido / Novuna (V12 Finance), Splitit, Snap Finance, Humm, Shop Pay Installments**, plus the platform (**Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Wix, Squarespace, PrestaShop, EKM** and more). Fast HTTP checks with no browser. robots.txt is honoured.

**Free weekly newsletter**, UK Industry & Bills: https://ukindustryandbills.substack.com

### What you get

- One row per shop: domain, status, `hasBnpl`, the BNPL providers found, which ones were detected as a real widget, and evidence snippets
- Covers Klarna, Clearpay (Afterpay), PayPal Pay in 3, Laybuy, Zilch, PayL8r, Divido / Novuna (V12), Splitit, Snap Finance, Humm and Shop Pay Installments
- The e-commerce platform each shop runs on (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Wix, Squarespace and more)
- An optional product-page check, because BNPL messaging often only shows next to the price
- Export to CSV, Excel or JSON, or pull results via the Apify API, Make, Zapier or n8n

### Who uses it

- **BNPL and payments sales teams:** find merchants without Klarna or Clearpay, or merchants that use a competitor, and build target lists.
- **Agencies and Shopify / WooCommerce developers:** qualify leads by platform and checkout stack.
- **Analysts and investors:** measure BNPL adoption across UK retail categories.
- **Compliance teams:** track which retailers promote BNPL now that UK BNPL regulation applies.

### How detection works

- **widget**: the provider's script, SDK or on-site messaging tag is on the page (strong evidence).
- **mention**: the provider's name appears in the page, in a payment-method list, footer logos or help links (weaker evidence).
- The actor checks the URL you give and, optionally, **one product page** linked from it, because BNPL messaging often shows only on product pages.
- Sites that return 403, show a bot challenge, or disallow us in robots.txt are reported with that `status` and are not bypassed.

### Input

```json
{ "urls": ["https://www.oliverbonas.com", "boohoo.com", "gymshark.com"], "checkProductPage": true, "onlyWithBnpl": false }
```

#### Example output (real sample)

| domain | platform | hasBnpl | bnplProviders | status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| boohoo.com | – | true | Clearpay, Klarna | ok |
| gymshark.com | Shopify | true | Klarna | ok |
| allbirds.co.uk | Shopify | false | – | ok |

### Output

```json
{
  "domain": "boohoo.com",
  "status": "ok",
  "platform": null,
  "hasBnpl": true,
  "bnplProviders": [
    "Clearpay",
    "Klarna"
  ],
  "bnplWidgets": [],
  "evidence": {
    "Klarna": {
      "type": "mention",
      "snippet": "{\"data\":[]}}},{\"id\":114793,\"attributes\":{\"order\":4,\"title\":\"Klarna\",\"url\":\"/pages/informational/payments/klarna\",\"target\":null"
    },
    "Clearpay": {
      "type": "mention",
      "snippet": "{\"data\":[]}}},{\"id\":114791,\"attributes\":{\"order\":5,\"title\":\"Clearpay\",\"url\":\"/pages/informational/payments/clearpay\",\"target\":nu"
    }
  },
  "pagesChecked": [
    "https://www.boohoo.com/"
  ]
}
```

### Pricing (pay per event)

**In plain words:** **$3 per 1,000 shops checked** ($0.003 each). Checking 10,000 shops costs about $30. Blocked or failed sites are still reported, so you know which shops to re-check.

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| `merchant-checked`: each shop checked and output | $0.003 |

### Limits

Detection is based on the HTML the server returns. Widgets that load only after JavaScript or a consent banner may appear only as a mention, or not at all. Headless storefronts can hide the platform. Only public pages are fetched, and no personal data is collected.

### FAQ

**Which BNPL providers are detected?** Klarna, Clearpay (Afterpay), PayPal Pay in 3, Laybuy, Zilch, PayL8r, Divido / Novuna (V12 Finance), Splitit, Snap Finance, Humm and Shop Pay Installments.

**What is the difference between a widget and a mention?** A widget means the provider's script or on-site messaging is on the page (strong evidence). A mention means the name appears in text, logos or links (weaker evidence). Use `bnplWidgets` for the strictest list.

**Can I find shops that do *not* offer Klarna?** Yes. Filter the output on `hasBnpl = false`, or on shops whose `bnplProviders` doesn't include Klarna. These are prospect lists for BNPL sales teams.

**Does it work outside the UK?** Detection works on any public shop, but the provider list is tuned for UK checkouts.

**Is it legal?** It only reads public pages, honours robots.txt, does not bypass bot protection and collects no personal data.

Skip shops where no BNPL provider was detected (they are not charged).

## `concurrency` (type: `integer`):

Shops checked in parallel.

## `maxUrls` (type: `integer`):

Check at most this many URLs. 0 = all.
