## Pricing

$25.00 / 1,000 npm package rows

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## npm Package Trend Monitor

Find npm packages for JavaScript market research, dependency discovery, competitor tracking, package monitoring, and trend intelligence.

This Actor uses the public npm registry search API. It is fast, lightweight, and does not need a proxy by default.

### What It Returns

- Package name, description, version, and npm URL
- Repository, homepage, and bug tracker URLs
- Keywords, publisher, maintainers, and publish date
- npm search scores for quality, popularity, and maintenance
- Source query and matched query terms
- Optional weekly download counts
- Monitoring mode for newly discovered packages

### Common Uses

- Discover packages in a market/category
- Track new competitors and alternatives
- Research SDK ecosystems
- Monitor dependency trends
- Find package maintainers and project URLs
- Build lead lists around JavaScript tooling

### Input Tips

Use focused package/category terms:

- `openai sdk`
- `shopify app`
- `stripe webhook`
- `react table`
- `postgres orm`
- `analytics sdk`

Use `maxResultsPerQuery` when you provide several queries and want balanced output.

### Weekly Downloads

Enable `includeWeeklyDownloads` when you need market-sizing signals. This adds one extra npm downloads API request per package, so it is slower than the default search-only mode.

### Result Limits

`maxResults` is a maximum cap, not a guarantee. The Actor only writes packages that pass your relevance and quality filters.

Use focused queries and `maxResultsPerQuery` to keep output balanced across several JavaScript ecosystem topics.

### Monitoring

Enable `monitorChanges` to compare the current run against the previous snapshot in the Actor key-value store.

When `onlyChanges` is enabled, the dataset contains only newly detected packages. When it is disabled, the dataset contains the current full result set while the change snapshot is still stored for automation.

### Proxy Use

No proxy is needed by default. This Actor uses public npm APIs and does not run a browser.

### Output

Each dataset row represents one npm package with registry metadata, npm search scores, relevance terms, source links, and scrape timestamp.

### Notes

This Actor is not affiliated with npm, npm Inc., or GitHub. It reads public npm registry API results and stores structured rows in your Apify dataset.

# Actor input Schema

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

npm package search terms. Use categories, competitors, frameworks, SDKs, or problem keywords.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Maximum package rows to write for the whole run.

## `maxResultsPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Optional cap per query so one broad keyword does not fill the entire run. Use 0 for no query cap.

## `pagesPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

How many npm search pages to scan per query. Each page requests up to 250 packages.

## `minimumQualityScore` (type: `integer`):

Minimum npm search quality score from 0 to 100. Use 0 to keep all matches.

## `includeWeeklyDownloads` (type: `boolean`):

Add weekly download counts for each package. This is slower but useful for market sizing.

## `minimumRelevanceScore` (type: `integer`):

Minimum number of meaningful query terms that must appear in package name, description, keywords, or publisher.

## `monitorChanges` (type: `boolean`):

Compare against the previous saved snapshot and detect newly found packages.

## `onlyChanges` (type: `boolean`):

When monitoring is enabled, write only newly detected packages to the dataset.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "searchQueries": [
    "react table",
    "postgres orm",
    "analytics sdk"
  ],
  "maxResults": 100,
  "maxResultsPerQuery": 0,
  "pagesPerQuery": 2,
  "minimumQualityScore": 0,
  "includeWeeklyDownloads": false,
  "minimumRelevanceScore": 1,
  "monitorChanges": false,
  "onlyChanges": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

Normal runs contain npm package rows. When output-only-changes is enabled, rows contain newly detected packages.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "searchQueries": [
        "openai sdk",
        "shopify app",
        "stripe webhook"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("seeb/npm-package-trend-monitor").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
