## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Facebook Video & Reel Transcript Scraper - Text, SRT & VTT

Turn any public Facebook video or reel into text and ready-to-use subtitles. Paste video links or a Facebook page, and get the full spoken transcript, timestamped segments, **SRT** and **VTT** subtitle files, the detected language, and the video's views, likes, comments and shares. No login, no cookies, no browser extension.

### What you get

One dataset row per video with:

- **Transcript**: `transcript` (full spoken text), `wordCount`, detected `language`
- **Subtitles**: `srt` and `vtt` strings you can save straight to a `.srt` / `.vtt` file, plus `segments` (`start`, `end`, `text` in seconds)
- **Video metadata**: `url`, `videoId`, `postId`, `caption`, `publishedAt`, `durationSeconds`, `viewCount`, `likeCount`, `commentCount`, `shareCount`, `thumbnailUrl`, `audioTitle`
- **Page / author**: `authorName`, `authorHandle`, `authorId`, `authorUrl`, `authorVerified`
- **Where the text came from**: `transcriptSource` is `captions` when the video has its own Facebook captions, or `speech_recognition` when the audio was transcribed
- **Status**: `ok`, `no_speech` (music-only or silent), `not_found` (private or deleted), `not_video` (photo or text post), `too_long` (over your length limit) or `failed`, with a clear per-video `error`

Export to JSON, CSV, Excel or Google Sheets from the Apify console, or pull the dataset via API.

### Use cases

- **Subtitles and accessibility**: get SRT/VTT caption files for Facebook videos in one click
- **Content repurposing**: turn Facebook videos and reels into blog posts, newsletters, threads and show notes
- **Competitor and brand monitoring**: transcribe a page's newest reels on a schedule and search what they say
- **Market and trend research**: pull the claims, products and talking points from video content in a niche
- **Translation and localisation prep**: timestamped segments are ready for translation workflows

### How to use

1. Paste **Video or reel URLs**: `facebook.com/reel/...`, `facebook.com/watch/?v=...`, `facebook.com/PAGE/videos/...`, `facebook.com/share/v/...`, `facebook.com/share/r/...` or `fb.watch/...` links all work.
2. And/or add **Page or profile URLs** (or just the page name, like `natgeo`) and set **Max videos per page**. The newest reels are transcribed first.
3. Optional settings:
   - **Transcript source**: *Auto* uses the video's own Facebook captions when they exist and transcribes the audio otherwise. *Always transcribe audio* skips Facebook captions.
   - **Language**: leave on `auto`, or set a 2-letter code (`en`, `es`, `pt` ...) if you know the spoken language.
   - **Max video length (minutes)**: skip very long videos.
   - **Include timestamped segments**: untick it if you only need the plain transcript and subtitle files.
4. Run the actor. One row per video appears in the **Dataset** tab. Switch to the **Subtitles** view to see the SRT and VTT for each video.

}
```
To save a subtitle file, copy the `srt` (or `vtt`) value into a text file named `video.srt` (or `video.vtt`). Every major video player and editor reads it.
### Pricing
You pay per result, and the actor stops charging the moment a video can't be transcribed:
- **Video processed**: a small fee for each video whose media was fetched and checked for speech, including music-only videos that turn out to have no speech.
- **Transcript**: one charge per video that produced a transcript, which includes the first minute of audio.
- **Transcript minute**: each additional started minute of a transcribed video.
Private, deleted, non-video and over-length posts are listed in the dataset with their status and are **never charged**.
### FAQ
**Do I need a Facebook account or cookies?** No. Only public videos and reels are supported.
**Which videos work?** Public reels, page and profile videos, and Watch videos. Private videos, videos in private groups and videos only visible when logged in come back as `not_found`.
**What happens with music-only videos?** They are listed as `no_speech` with an empty transcript. Song lyrics may be transcribed if the singing is clear.
**How accurate are the timestamps?** Subtitle timing is typically within a fraction of a second. If a backup engine had to be used, the row has `timestampsApproximate: true`.
**Which languages are supported?** Speech in all major languages is detected automatically. Set **Language** if you already know it.
**How long can videos be?** There is no fixed limit; long videos are processed in parts and stitched back together. Use **Max video length** to skip anything too long.
**Is there a free trial?** Free Apify plans can transcribe up to 5 videos per run (the first 3 minutes of each, 2 runs per day, 60 minutes apart) so you can test the output. Upgrade to a paid plan to remove these limits.
# Actor input Schema
## `videoUrls` (type: `array`):
Facebook video, reel or watch links, one per line. Works with facebook.com/reel/..., /watch/?v=..., /PAGE/videos/..., /share/v/..., /share/r/... and fb.watch links.
## `pageUrls` (type: `array`):
Public Facebook page or profile links (or just the page name, e.g. natgeo). The actor transcribes each page's newest reels, up to 'Max videos per page'.
## `maxVideosPerPage` (type: `integer`):
How many of the newest reels to transcribe for each page or profile.
## `transcriptSource` (type: `string`):
'Auto' uses the video's own Facebook captions when they exist (fast, same timestamps viewers see) and transcribes the audio otherwise. 'Always transcribe audio' ignores Facebook captions and runs speech recognition on every video.
## `language` (type: `string`):
Spoken language hint: 'auto' or a 2-letter ISO code (en, es, pt, de ...). With a code set, captions in a different language are skipped and the audio is transcribed instead.
## `includeSegments` (type: `boolean`):
Add a segments array (start, end, text in seconds) to every row. The full transcript, SRT and VTT are always included.
## `maxVideoMinutes` (type: `integer`):
Skip videos longer than this many minutes (they are listed with status 'too_long' and not charged). 0 = no limit.
## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):
Safety cap on the total number of videos processed in this run. 0 = no cap (up to 1,000).
# Actor output Schema
## `results` (type: `string`):
One record per video: status, url, videoId, postId, author (name, handle, id, url, verified), caption, publishedAt, durationSeconds, viewCount, likeCount, commentCount, shareCount, thumbnailUrl, audioTitle, language, transcriptSource, transcript, wordCount, segments (start, end, text), srt, vtt, minutesTranscribed.
