## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Maps Rank Grid Tracker - Local SEO Heatmap

See where your business ranks on Google Maps across your whole service area, not just from one spot. The actor lays a grid of points around your business (3x3 up to 9x9), searches Google Maps for your keyword from each point, and records your rank and the top competitors there. You get a colour-coded heatmap, your average rank and your share of top-3 spots, at a fraction of the cost of local rank-grid subscriptions.

### What you get

One row per grid point per keyword with:

- **rank**, **found** and **inTop3**: your Google Maps position at that point (null when you're not in the results checked)
- **row**, **col**, **pointLabel**, **latitude**, **longitude** and **distanceKm**: where the search was run and how far it is from your business
- **topResults**: the top 3 businesses at that point with rating, review count, website and address
- **resultsCount**, **depthChecked**, **googleMapsUrl** and **checkedAt**

Plus two records in the key-value store:

- **REPORT**: a colour-coded heatmap per keyword (green = top 3, yellow = 4-10, orange = 11+, red = not found)
- **SUMMARY**: average rank, average rank counting misses, share of local voice (top-3 share), the rank matrix and the competitors that appear most often

### Use cases

- **Local SEO audits**: see exactly where in town you drop out of the map pack
- **Agency reporting**: send clients a heatmap every week or month
- **Competitor research**: find which competitors own the map pack in each neighbourhood
- **Google Business Profile optimisation**: measure the effect of reviews, categories and posts on your local reach
- **Multi-location businesses**: track each branch by entering its address

### How to use

1. Enter your **Keywords**, e.g. `coffee shop` or `emergency plumber`.
2. Enter your **Business name** exactly as it appears on Google Maps.
3. Enter your **Business address** (needed if you have more than one location).
4. Pick a **Grid size** and **Radius**. 1-3 km suits a shop in a city; 5-15 km suits a service-area business.
5. Run the actor. Open **REPORT** in the **Key-value store** tab for the heatmap.

### Pricing

Pay per event, no subscription:

- **Google Maps search**: charged per grid point, plus one search per run to find your business listing. A 5x5 grid for one keyword is 26 searches.

See the **Pricing** tab for current prices. Failed points are not charged.

### Free plan limits

Free Apify plans can scan 1 keyword on a 3x3 grid per run, 3 runs per day, with 30 minutes between runs. Upgrade to any paid Apify plan to remove these limits.

### FAQ

**How is my business matched?** The actor first finds your listing on Google Maps and then matches it by its unique place id at every grid point, so other branches of the same chain don't count.

**What does "not found" mean?** Your business wasn't in the top 20, 50 or 100 results (your choice) at that point.

**Which grid size should I pick?** 5x5 is the most common for a local business. Use 7x7 or 9x9 for a wide service area.
