## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## TikTok Story Viewer & Downloader - Save Active Stories

View and download the active TikTok stories of any public profile. Enter up to 1,000 usernames or profile links and get every story that's live right now: the video or photo, when it was posted, when it expires, views, likes, sound, and a permanent download link to the saved file. No login, no TikTok account, and the creator never sees you in their viewer list.

### What you get

One row per active story with:

- **Story details**: `storyId`, `storyType` (video or photo), `postedAt`, `expiresAt`, `hoursLeft` before it disappears, caption and on-screen sticker text
- **Media**: no-watermark video link (`videoUrl`), watermarked video link, photo links (`imageUrls`), cover image, duration, width and height
- **Saved files**: with **Download story files** on (the default), each video or photo is saved to the run's key-value store. `mediaDownloadUrl` and `downloadedFiles` hold permanent links that keep working after the story disappears from TikTok
- **Engagement**: views, likes, comments, shares and saves, when TikTok shows them
- **Sound**: sound ID, title, artist and audio link
- **Account**: username, display name, user ID, follower count and verification

Accounts with no active story, private accounts and usernames that don't exist get a single free status row (`no_stories`, `private` or `not_found`), so you always know what happened to every username. Each run also saves a short summary in the **Key-value store** as `OUTPUT`.

### Use cases

- **Archive stories before they vanish**: TikTok stories disappear after 24 hours. Save the files with permanent links
- **Competitor and brand monitoring**: see what brands and rivals post to stories, how many views they get and which sounds they use
- **Influencer marketing**: confirm sponsored creators posted the agreed story and capture proof with view counts
- **Anonymous story viewing**: watch stories without a TikTok account and without showing up as a viewer
- **Social media reporting**: export story activity for a whole roster of creators to CSV, Excel or Google Sheets

### How to use

1. Enter TikTok usernames (with or without @) or profile URLs, one per line
2. Leave **Download story files** on to save every video and photo, or turn it off to get TikTok's media links only
3. Optionally set **Max stories per account** (0 = all active stories)
4. Run the actor and open the **Dataset** tab. Saved files are in the **Key-value store** tab
5. Export to JSON, CSV, Excel or Google Sheets

#### Never miss a story

Stories only last 24 hours. To catch every one, schedule the actor in Apify Console (**Schedules** → **Create new**, e.g. every 12 hours: `0 */12 * * *`) with your list of usernames. Each run saves whatever is live at that moment.

A photo story has `storyType: "photo"`, its pictures in `imageUrls`, and one saved file per photo.

### Pricing

You pay per active story returned, plus a small fee per file saved when **Download story files** is on. Accounts with no active story, private accounts, usernames that don't exist and invalid input are free.

Free Apify plans can check up to 10 usernames per run (3 runs a day). Upgrade to a paid plan to remove these limits.

### FAQ

**Will the creator know I viewed their story?** No. Stories are fetched anonymously, without a TikTok account, so you never appear in the viewer list.

**Why did an account return `no_stories`?** It has no active public story right now. Stories disappear 24 hours after posting, and many accounts don't post stories every day. You are not charged.

**Can I view stories from private accounts?** No. Only public stories are available. Private accounts get a free `private` or `no_stories` row.

**How long do the links work?** The `mediaDownloadUrl` and `downloadedFiles` links point to your Apify storage and keep working after the story expires, for as long as your plan keeps run storage (or forever if you copy the files to a named store). The TikTok links (`videoUrl`, `imageUrls`, `coverUrl`) are temporary, stop working after a few hours, and some video links only open with a `Referer: https://www.tiktok.com/` header. Use the saved files when you need a link that just works.

**Does the video have a watermark?** `videoUrl` and the saved file are the no-watermark version. `watermarkedVideoUrl` is the version with the TikTok watermark.

**Can I get story highlights or older stories?** No. This actor returns stories that are active right now.
