## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## TikTok Username Checker - Handle Availability

Check whether TikTok usernames are available or already taken, in bulk. Paste up to 2,000 handles and get a clear available / taken answer for each one, details about who owns the taken ones, and optional suggestions of free alternatives for your brand or creator name.

### What you get

One row per username with:

- **Status**: `available`, `taken` or `invalid_format` (breaks TikTok's username rules)
- **Owner details for taken handles**: user ID, display name, followers, video count, verified and private flags, account creation date
- **Alternative suggestions** (optional): for taken names, common variations such as `name_`, `thename`, `name.official`, `namehq` and `name2026` are checked too, with `isAlternativeFor` linking them back to the original
- **Format validation**: handles that are too long, too short, end with a period or contain invalid characters are flagged for free

### Use cases

- **Brand launches**: find out if your brand name is free on TikTok before you announce it
- **Creator handle hunting**: test dozens of name ideas at once and keep only the free ones
- **Cross-platform name checks**: pair it with other username checkers to pick a handle that's free everywhere
- **Brand protection**: monitor whether squatters have registered variations of your name
- **Agencies**: check handles for many clients in a single run

### How to use

1. Enter the usernames you want to check, one per line (the @ is optional)
2. Optionally turn on **Suggest available alternatives** and choose how many variations to try per taken name
3. Run the actor. Results appear in the **Dataset** tab
4. Filter by `available = true` and export to CSV, Excel or Google Sheets

### Output example

```json
[
  { "username": "mybrandname", "status": "available", "available": true, "isAlternativeFor": null, "profileUrl": "https://www.tiktok.com/@mybrandname" },
  { "username": "khaby.lame", "status": "taken", "available": false, "ownerNickname": "Khabane lame", "ownerFollowers": 163000000, "ownerVerified": true }
]
```

### Pricing

You pay per username checked, whether it's available or taken. Suggested alternatives are billed as checks too. Invalid usernames and anything skipped are free.

Free Apify plans can check up to 20 usernames per run (3 runs a day). Upgrade to a paid plan to remove these limits.

### FAQ

**Is "available" guaranteed?** It means no TikTok account, including banned or unavailable ones, currently uses the handle. TikTok also reserves some names (well-known brands, recently freed handles), so its sign-up screen has the final word.

**What are TikTok's username rules?** 2 to 24 characters, letters, numbers, underscores and periods only, not ending with a period. Usernames are case-insensitive.

# Actor input Schema

## `usernames` (type: `array`):

Handles to check, one per line (up to 2,000 per run). The @ is optional; profile URLs work too.

## `suggestAlternatives` (type: `boolean`):

When a username is taken, also check common variations (name\_, thename, name.official, nameHQ...) and report which are free. Each variation checked is billed as one check.

## `alternativesPerUsername` (type: `integer`):

How many variations to check for each taken username (1-20).

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "usernames": [
    "mybrandname",
    "coffeecorner",
    "khaby.lame"
  ],
  "suggestAlternatives": false,
  "alternativesPerUsername": 5
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per username: status (available / taken / invalid_format), available, the owner's user ID, nickname, followers, video count, verified and private flags for taken handles, and isAlternativeFor for suggested variations.
