## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## X (Twitter) Account Status Checker - Suspended or Active

Check thousands of X (Twitter) accounts at once and find out which are **active**, **protected**, **suspended** or **no longer exist**. Paste handles, @handles or profile URLs and get one clean row per account with its status, user ID, creation date and follower counts. No login or X account needed.

### What you get

One row per handle with:

- **status**: `active`, `protected`, `suspended`, `notFound` or `invalid`
- **userId**: the permanent numeric X user ID, returned for suspended accounts too
- **createdAt**: when the account was created. For suspended accounts it is worked out from the user ID when possible (`createdAtSource` tells you which)
- **name, followers, following, tweetsCount, isBlueVerified** for accounts that exist
- **protected**: whether the account's posts are hidden from the public
- **profileUrl**, **statusDetail** (a plain-English explanation) and **checkedAt** timestamp

#### What each status means

| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| `active` | The account exists and its posts are public |
| `protected` | The account exists but only approved followers can see its posts |
| `suspended` | X has suspended the account |
| `notFound` | No account uses the handle right now: never registered, deactivated, deleted or renamed. X shows all of these the same way |
| `invalid` | Not a possible X handle (wrong characters, longer than 15, or a name X reserves for its own pages). Free |

### Use cases

- **Clean influencer and lead lists**: drop suspended and deleted accounts before outreach or a campaign
- **Bot and spam research**: measure how many accounts in a dataset were suspended
- **Brand protection and impersonation monitoring**: confirm that reported fake accounts have been suspended
- **Academic and trust & safety research**: track account survival over time across a list of handles
- **CRM hygiene**: re-check the X handles stored against your contacts and flag the dead ones
- **Handle hunting**: see whether a handle is taken, suspended or free to look into

### How to use

1. Paste the accounts to check into **X handles or profile URLs**, one per line. `nasa`, `@nasa` and `https://x.com/nasa` all work
2. Keep **Include profile details** on to also get names and follower counts, or switch it off for status only
3. Run the actor. Results appear in the **Dataset** tab
4. Filter by `status` and export to CSV, Excel, JSON or Google Sheets

### Output example

```json
    "createdAtSource": "userId",
    "statusDetail": "X has suspended this account."
  }
]
```

### Pricing

You pay per account checked, whatever its status. Invalid handles, duplicates, and anything that could not be checked are free.

Free Apify plans can check up to 25 accounts per run. Upgrade to a paid plan to remove the limit.

### FAQ

**Can it tell deactivated accounts from deleted or never-used ones?** No. X shows all of them as "this account doesn't exist", so they are all reported as `notFound`. Suspended accounts are reported separately.

**How is the creation date found for suspended accounts?** X user IDs created since about 2013 contain a timestamp. When a suspended account has one of these IDs, the actor decodes it. Older accounts have plain sequential IDs, so their creation date stays empty while suspended.

**Do I need an X account or login?** No. The actor only checks public information.

**Are handles case-sensitive?** No. `NASA`, `nasa` and `NaSa` are the same account, and duplicates in your list are only checked once.

# Actor input Schema

## `usernames` (type: `array`):

Accounts to check, one per line (up to 5,000 per run). Accepts handle, @handle, or an x.com / twitter.com profile URL. Invalid handles are flagged and not charged.

## `includeProfile` (type: `boolean`):

Add display name, follower, following and post counts, and blue-check status for accounts that exist. Turn off for a status-only output.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "usernames": [
    "nasa",
    "@elonmusk",
    "https://x.com/TayandYou"
  ],
  "includeProfile": true
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One row per handle: status (active / protected / suspended / notFound / invalid), userId, name, createdAt, followers, following, tweetsCount, isBlueVerified, protected, profileUrl, statusDetail, checkedAt.
