## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## X (Twitter) Similar Accounts Finder - Lookalike Profiles

Find X (Twitter) accounts similar to any profile: peers, competitors and lookalike creators in the same niche. Every result is scored for how closely it matches and comes with a one-line reason why. No login required.

X has no public "similar accounts" list. This actor builds one from the strongest signals an account gives off: who it talks to, who it chooses to follow and which accounts describe themselves the same way. It then reads each candidate's bio and size, compares it with the account you gave it, and keeps only the ones that are actually alike, so you don't get a list padded with Elon Musk and the New York Times.

### What you get

Each dataset record is one similar account:

- `similarityScore` (0-100), how closely it matches the account you entered
- `reason`, a short plain-English explanation, e.g. *"Solo maker shipping bootstrapped startups, closely matching the build-in-public SaaS profile."*
- `source`, how the account was found: `mentions` (the seed replies to, mentions, retweets or quotes it), `following` (the seed follows it) or `search` (matched a niche search). `sources` lists every way it was found.
- `username`, `name`, `url`, `userId`, `profilePicture`
- `bio`, `location`
- `followers`, `following`, `tweetsCount`
- `verified`
- `seedUsername`, the account it is similar to

The **Key-value store** tab also has a `SEED_PROFILES` record showing how each input account was understood: its niche, audience, account type and the keywords used to search for peers.

### Use cases

- **Competitor research**: map the founders, brands and media accounts competing for the same audience
- **Influencer and creator discovery**: start from one creator you like and find more like them
- **Lead generation**: build prospect lists of similar accounts, filtered by follower count or verified status
- **Partnership and collab outreach**: find accounts in the same niche to co-promote with
- **Audience and market mapping**: see who else is active in a niche and how big they are

### How to use

1. Enter one or more X **usernames** (with or without @, or paste the profile URL)
2. Set **Max results per username** (default 25)
3. Optionally set **Minimum followers** to skip small accounts, or turn on **Verified accounts only**
4. Optionally list **Exclude usernames** you already know about
5. Run the actor. Results appear in the **Dataset** tab and can be exported to JSON, CSV or Excel, or sent to Google Sheets

### How it works

1. Reads the account's profile and about 40 of its latest posts to work out its niche, audience and type
2. Collects candidates from the accounts it interacts with and the accounts it most recently followed
3. Scores every candidate's bio and size against the seed account, strongest signals first
4. Only if those run dry, searches X for accounts in the same niche and scores those too
5. Stops as soon as it has the number of matches you asked for

Only accounts scoring 70 or more are returned. If very few candidates are a close match, the run stops early and says so rather than returning weak matches.

### Example input

```json
{
  "usernames": ["levelsio", "nba"],
  "maxResults": 20,
  "minFollowers": 1000,
  "excludeHandles": ["elonmusk"]
}
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "seedUsername": "levelsio",
  "username": "marc_louvion",
  "name": "Marc Lou",
  "url": "https://x.com/marc_louvion",
  "userId": "1234567890",
  "bio": "Shipping startups fast...",
  "followers": 200000,
  "following": 500,
  "tweetsCount": 30000,
  "verified": true,
  "location": "Bali",
  "profilePicture": "https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/...",
  "similarityScore": 95,
  "reason": "Solo maker shipping bootstrapped startups in public, the same indie hacker niche.",
  "source": "mentions",
  "sources": ["mentions", "following"]
}
```

### Pricing

You pay a small fee per username analyzed, plus a fee per similar account returned. Accounts that don't make the cut are never charged.

### FAQ

**Does it work for private (protected) accounts?** Only partly. Protected accounts don't share their posts or follows, so there is less to go on and results will be thinner.

**Why are big accounts the seed follows missing?** Following someone doesn't make them similar. A founder who follows a celebrity CEO gets other founders back, not the CEO.

**Can I get more than one run's worth?** Raise **Max results per username**. If the actor stops early, it has run out of close matches for that account.

# Actor input Schema

## `usernames` (type: `array`):

Accounts to find lookalikes for. With or without @, or paste the profile URL. Each one is processed separately.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

How many similar accounts to return for each username. The run stops early if fewer close matches exist.

## `minFollowers` (type: `integer`):

Skip accounts with fewer followers than this. 0 = no minimum.

## `verifiedOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Only return accounts with a verified checkmark.

## `excludeHandles` (type: `array`):

Accounts to leave out of the results, e.g. your own accounts or ones you already know about.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "usernames": [
    "levelsio"
  ],
  "maxResults": 25,
  "minFollowers": 0,
  "verifiedOnly": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One similar account per record: similarityScore, reason, source, bio, follower counts, verified status and location.

## `seedProfiles` (type: `string`):

SEED_PROFILES record in the default key-value store: how each input account was understood (niche, audience, account type, search keywords).
