## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

### Use cases

- **New-company leads**: every new restaurant (56101), consultancy (70229), e-commerce shop (47910) or software company (62012) registered this week. Accountants, banks, insurers, web agencies and payroll providers use this to reach new businesses first.
- **Market monitoring**: count incorporations per SIC code and month.
- **Competitor / sector watch**: companies whose name includes a keyword (e.g. "ai", "solar", "care").
- **Insolvency watch**: companies in liquidation or administration in your sector.
- **Daily feed**: schedule it daily with `daysBack: 1` and send new rows to Google Sheets, Slack or a webhook.

### Input

| Field | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `sicCodes` | `["62012","62020"]` | 5-digit SIC 2007 codes |
| `daysBack` | `7` | Incorporated in the last N days |
| `incorporatedFrom` / `incorporatedTo` | `2026-09-01` | Exact dates instead of daysBack |
| `companyNameIncludes` | `ai` | |
| `location` | `Manchester` | Registered-office town, county or postcode |
| `statuses` | `["active"]` | active, dissolved, liquidation, administration... |
| `companyTypes` | `["ltd"]` | ltd, plc, llp... |
| `maxItems` | `50` | Newest first, up to 5,000 |

### Output fields

`companyNumber`, `companyName`, `status`, `companyType`, `companyTypeLabel`, `companySubtype`, `incorporatedOn`, `ageDays`, `dissolvedOn`, `registeredOn`, `sicCodes`, `sicDescriptions`, `primarySicCode`, `primarySicDescription`, `postcode`, `postcodeArea`, `postcodeDistrict`, `country`, `companyUrl`.

Export to JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read through the API.

### Use from an AI agent (API or MCP)

Add `https://mcp.apify.com?tools=sefran1/uk-companies-house-search` to Claude, Cursor, VS Code or any MCP client. Or call the API:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/sefran1~uk-companies-house-search/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=$APIFY_TOKEN" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' -d '{"sicCodes":["56101"],"daysBack":30,"location":"London","maxItems":500}'
```

### Pricing

Pay per result: **$0.0025 per company ($2.50 per 1,000)**. No subscription. A search that finds nothing finishes successfully with an empty dataset and costs only the tiny start fee (nothing is charged per result).

### Privacy, data source and limits

- **Company-level data only.** No officers, directors or persons with significant control. The registered office is reduced to **postcode and country**, because many small companies use a home address.
- Source: the public Companies House register, via the "Advanced company search" export on find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk. Companies House register information is public and free to reuse; check the official record before relying on a result.
- Companies House exports at most 5,000 matches per search. Split large searches by date range.
- Not affiliated with Companies House.
