## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Maps Scraper

Get Google Maps places as clean JSON, from [SerpData](https://serpdata.dev), from
**$0.034 per 1,000 places, details included**. Search by keyword and city, or look up
places by Google place ID, feature ID or cid. Add reviews and photos when you need them.

### Why use this Google Maps scraper?

- **Lowest price on Apify.** From $0.034 per 1,000 places with full details, and no more
  than $0.04 on any plan. You pay only for places returned; a failed search is free.
- **Details included.** Every place comes with opening hours, amenities, business
  status, phone, website and Google place ID, with no add-on to switch on.
- **Fast.** Most places return in well under a second each.
- **Reviews and photos.** Add the newest, most relevant, highest or lowest reviews per
  place, with owner replies and translations, plus full-size photo URLs.
- **Search or look up.** Search "plumbers" in "Denver, CO", or pass Google place IDs,
  feature IDs or cids you already have.
- **Batch or live.** Run it in bulk from the Apify Console, or call it like an API.

### What data can I extract from Google Maps?

| Every place | Details (included) | Optional add-ons |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Name and category | Opening hours | Reviews: text, rating, exact date, owner reply, translation, aspect ratings |
| Address and coordinates | Address parts (street, city, postal code, country) | Review sort: newest, relevant, highest, lowest |
| Rating and review count | Phone in international format | Photos: full-size URLs and sizes |
| Phone and website | Description and amenities | |
| Google cid and Google Maps link | Business status (open or closed) | |
| The search term that found it | Google place ID | |

### How to scrape Google Maps

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. Enter what to search for, such as "coffee shops", and a location, such as
   "Austin, TX". Or paste Google place IDs, feature IDs or cids.
3. Choose how many places you want per search, up to 200, and whether you want reviews
   or photos.
4. Click **Start**, then download the places as JSON, CSV, Excel, XML or HTML.

### Input

Search for places:

```json
{
  "searchTerms": ["coffee shops", "bakeries"],
  "location": "Austin, TX",
  "maxPlacesPerSearch": 50,
  "maxReviews": 20,
  "reviewsSort": "newest"
}
```

Look up places you already know:

```json
{
  "placeIds": ["ChIJwc3zxvNdeUgR7U9zwP-ov3A"],
  "cids": ["462561016830669691"],
  "maxImages": 10
}
```

| Field | What it does |
| --- | --- |
| `searchTerms`, `location` | What to search for and where. Or set `lat` and `lng` |
| `maxPlacesPerSearch` | Places per search term, up to 200 |
| `placeIds` | Look up places by Google place ID (`ChIJ…`) |
| `fids` | Look up places by Google feature ID (`0x…:0x…`), the `data_id` other Google Maps APIs return |
| `cids` | Look up places by Google cid |
| `maxReviews` | Reviews per place, up to 5,000. 0 skips reviews |
| `reviewsSort` | `relevant`, `newest`, `highest` or `lowest` |
| `language` | Two-letter code, such as `de`. Reviews in other languages are translated into it |
| `maxImages` | Photos per place, up to 20. 0 skips photos |

### Output

One dataset item per place:

```json
{
  "searchString": "bakery",
  "position": 1,
  "title": "Underground Bakery",
  "category": "Bakery",
  "address": "7 Call Ln, Leeds, LS1 7DH, United Kingdom",
  "latitude": 53.7963493,
  "longitude": -1.5398983,
  "rating": 4.9,
  "ratingCount": 191,
  "website": "https://theundergroundbakery.co.uk/",
  "cid": "13031914354820670368",
  "url": "https://maps.google.com/?cid=13031914354820670368",
  "details": {
    "businessStatus": "OPEN",
    "googlePlaceId": "ChIJHVTEMwBdeUgRoGNmRg-p2rQ",
    "categories": ["Bakery"],
    "openingHours": [480, 900]
  }
}
```

`openingHours` lists when the place is open as pairs of minutes from Monday 00:00:
`[480, 900]` means Monday 8:00 to 15:00. Reviews and photos appear as `reviews` and
`images` arrays when you ask for them.

### How much does it cost to scrape Google Maps?

Prices per 1,000, by Apify plan:

| What you get | Free | Starter | Scale | Business |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Place found by a search, **details included** | $0.04 | $0.038 | $0.036 | **$0.034** |
| Place looked up by place ID, feature ID or cid | $0.02 | $0.019 | $0.018 | $0.017 |
| Review | $0.01 | $0.01 | $0.01 | $0.01 |
| Photo | $0.01 | $0.01 | $0.01 | $0.01 |

There is no start fee and no monthly fee. You pay only for what is returned; a request
that fails is not charged.

- The **free Apify plan** includes $5 of usage a month, enough for about **125,000
  places**.
- The **Starter plan** ($19 a month) covers about **500,000 places** a month.

### Use cases

- **Lead generation:** build lists of businesses by category and city, with phone and
  website.
- **Local SEO:** see which businesses rank for a search in a city, and how they rate.
- **Market research:** count and compare businesses in a category across cities.
- **Competitor analysis:** compare ratings, review counts, hours and reviews with
  nearby competitors.
- **Location planning:** find underserved areas before opening a new location.
- **Data enrichment:** add hours, status, coordinates and place IDs to the places you
  already track.

### Live HTTP API

This Actor also runs in Standby mode, so you can call it like any API:

```sh
curl "https://serpdata--google-maps-scraper.apify.actor/places?q=coffee+shops&location=Austin,+TX" \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $APIFY_TOKEN"
```

| Endpoint | Returns | Charged per |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `GET /places?q=…&location=…&limit=…` | Places for a search (or use `lat` and `lng`), without details | Place |
| `GET /place?cid=…` | One place with its details | Lookup (from $0.017 per 1,000) |
| `GET /reviews?cid=…&pageToken=…&sort=…&hl=…` | One page of reviews, with `nextPageToken`; `sort` is relevant, newest, highest or lowest | Review |
| `GET /photos?cid=…` | Photos for one place | Photo |

`/place`, `/reviews` and `/photos` also take `placeId=ChIJ…` or `fid=0x…:0x…` in place of
`cid`.

Errors return JSON with a `message` and are never charged. `400` means a parameter is
invalid, `402` means the run has reached its maximum cost, `404` means no place has
that ID, and `429` means too many requests at once. Any `5xx` status is safe to retry.

### Integrations and API access

- **No-code:** connect runs to Make, Zapier, Google Sheets, Google Drive, Slack, Amazon
  S3 and others, or trigger anything with a webhook.
- **Scheduling:** run hourly, daily or weekly to track changes in ratings, hours or
  new businesses.
- **Code:** use the Apify API, or the `apify-client` package for Node.js or Python.
- **AI agents:** call this Actor through the Apify MCP server.

### Frequently asked questions

#### Is it legal to scrape Google Maps?

Google Maps business listings are public and can be read without an account. Whether
you can collect and use them depends on where you are and what you do with the data,
so check Google's terms of service and get legal advice for your use case.

#### What about personal data?

Business listings are mostly business data. Reviews include reviewers' names and
photos, which are personal data protected in the EU by the GDPR and by similar laws
elsewhere. Only collect reviews if you have a lawful reason to.

#### How many places can I get?

Up to 200 places per search term, and as many search terms as you like. To cover a
large area, search several nearby locations, such as neighborhoods or towns.

#### How is this different from the Google Places API?

The Google Places API charges per request and returns at most 5 reviews per place.
This Actor charges from $0.034 per 1,000 places with details included, and returns as many
reviews as you ask for.

#### Can I get places for a list of IDs?

Yes. Paste Google place IDs (`ChIJ…`) into **Google place IDs**, feature IDs
(`0x…:0x…`) into **Google feature IDs**, or cids into **Place cids**. Each lookup costs
from $0.017 per 1,000 and includes all details.

#### What export formats are supported?

JSON, CSV, Excel, XML and HTML, from the dataset of any run.

### Current limits

- Up to 200 places per search term.
- Up to 20 photos per place.
- Opening hours sometimes cover only some days, when Google returns a partial week.
- Popular times, menus and business contact emails are not included.
