## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Reddit Scraper

**Scrape Reddit posts and comments** by subreddit, keyword search, user profile or post link — with title, full text, author, date, links and thumbnails. JSON, CSV or Excel. No Reddit login, no API key, no proxy setup.

Built for **market and competitor research, brand and keyword monitoring, lead discovery, and AI / LLM datasets**. Pay only for the items you get — **$1.50 per 1,000 items**. Residential proxy cost is included.

### How to use it (1 minute)

1. Add one or more **Subreddits** (`startups` or a full link), and/or **Search keywords**, **Users** or **Posts** (for their comments).
2. Pick **Sort** (newest, hot, top...) and **Max items per source**.
3. Click **Start**, then download JSON, CSV or Excel — or use the API.

### Output example

One row per post or comment:

```json
{
  "type": "post",
  "id": "1wxoasb",
  "fullname": "t3_1wxoasb",
  "subreddit": "SaaS",
  "author": "DataShack",
  "title": "I scraped billions of TikTok videos and profiles by reverse engineering the mobile API",
  "text": "Hey everyone. I'm a data engineer and I've spent the past 8 years reverse engineering TikTok's mobile app...",
  "url": "https://www.reddit.com/r/SaaS/comments/1wxoasb/...",
  "externalUrl": "https://huggingface.co/datasets/datasocial/tiktok-5.6B-videos",
  "thumbnail": "https://external-preview.redd.it/...",
  "createdAt": "2026-10-04T18:20:11+00:00",
  "source": "r/SaaS (new)"
}
```

Comments have `"type": "comment"` and the same fields; `title` shows who commented on which post.

### What people use it for

- **Market and idea research** — read what people complain about and ask for in a niche subreddit.
- **Social listening** — search a keyword every day and get only new mentions of your brand, product or competitor.
- **Subreddit scraper** — pull a whole community's posts on a schedule, newest or top first.
- **Competitor tracking** — follow what customers say about a product, in any subreddit.
- **Lead discovery** — find people asking for a tool or service like yours.
- **AI / LLM datasets** — clean text, one item per row, ready for sentiment analysis or RAG.

### Sources you can combine in one run

| Input | What you get |
|---|---|
| Subreddits | Posts in the order you choose (newest, hot, top, controversial) |
| Search keywords | Posts that match, across Reddit or inside the subreddits you list |
| Users | Each user's posts and comments |
| Posts | The comments of a post |

### Pricing

You pay **$1.50 per 1,000 items** saved, plus $0.00005 per run.

| You collect | Approximate cost |
|---|---|
| 100 newest posts of a subreddit | $0.15 |
| Daily keyword monitoring (~30 new posts/day) | ~$1.40 per month |
| 20,000 posts for a dataset | $30 |

Sources that don't exist or are private are skipped and **never charged** — they're listed in the run's `RUN_SUMMARY`. Set a spending limit and the run stops there.

### Input example

```json
{
  "subreddits": ["startups", "r/SaaS"],
  "searchQueries": ["looking for a tool"],
  "sort": "new",
  "maxItemsPerSource": 200,
  "since": "2026-10-01",
  "onlyPosts": true
}
```

### Limits (please read)

- **No upvote scores or comment counts.** This tool uses Reddit's public feeds, which do not include them. You get the content, author, date and links.
- **Depth:** Reddit shows about 1,000 items per listing. Comments per post: roughly the top 30 that Reddit exposes in its feed.
- **Search** returns matching posts; its date range follows Reddit's search filter.

### FAQ

**Can I get only new items every day?** Yes — use *Newest* sort and set *Only items since* to yesterday. The run stops as soon as it reaches older posts, so scheduled runs stay cheap.

**Do I need a Reddit account or API key?** No.

**Can I use it from code, Make, Zapier or n8n?** Yes, through the Apify API and integrations.

**Is it legal?** It collects only publicly visible content. You're responsible for using it in line with applicable law and Reddit's terms.

**Something broken or a field missing?** Open an issue on this page — I usually reply within a day.

# Actor input Schema

## `subreddits` (type: `array`):

Subreddit names or links, e.g. startups or https://www.reddit.com/r/startups/. Posts are collected in the chosen sort order.

## `searchQueries` (type: `array`):

Find posts mentioning these words across Reddit. If you also add subreddits, the search runs inside each of those subreddits instead.

## `users` (type: `array`):

Reddit usernames or profile links. Collects the posts and the comments of each user.

## `posts` (type: `array`):

Post links or IDs. Collects the comments of each post (up to about 30 top-level comments Reddit exposes per post).

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Order of subreddit posts and search results.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Used when sort is Top or Controversial, and for keyword search.

## `maxItemsPerSource` (type: `integer`):

Maximum posts or comments to save for each subreddit, keyword, user or post. Reddit shows about 1,000 items per listing at most.

## `since` (type: `string`):

Skip anything older than this date. Combined with Newest sort, the run stops as soon as it reaches older items, so scheduled daily runs stay cheap.

## `onlyPosts` (type: `boolean`):

Skip comments and keep posts only. Useful for user sources, which return both.

## `minTextLength` (type: `integer`):

Skip comments or posts whose body text is shorter than this many characters. Link-only posts with a title are kept.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many sources to fetch at the same time (1-5).

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Reddit blocks datacenter IPs, so residential proxy is used by default and included in the price.
