## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

### Website Email & Phone Finder + Deliverability Check

Give this Actor a list of company websites or domains. For each one it reads the homepage plus up to ~5 likely pages (contact, about, impressum/imprint, team) and returns **one clean row per website**:

- **Public email addresses** found on the site (mailto links, page text, and Cloudflare-obfuscated emails), own-domain addresses first
- **Phone numbers**, validated with Google's libphonenumber and normalised to **E.164** + international format, with country and line type
- **Social profile links**: LinkedIn, X/Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, GitHub, Pinterest
- **Email deliverability of the domain**: MX records, mail provider, SPF and DMARC presence/policy, status `READY` / `PARTIAL` / `NO_MX`
- **Contactability score 0-100**, so you can sort a lead list by how reachable each company is

**Price: $0.003 per website ($3 per 1,000) that returns at least one email, phone or social link.** Websites that are unreachable, don't exist, block us in robots.txt, or have no public contact details are returned with a status code and are **not charged**.

#### Example output (shortened, real run)

```json
{"domain": "plausible.io", "status": "OK", "contactabilityScore": 75,
 "emails": ["hello@plausible.io"], "phones": [],
 "socialLinks": {"twitter": "https://twitter.com/PlausibleHQ", "linkedin": "https://www.linkedin.com/company/plausible-analytics"},
 "deliverability": {"hasMx": true, "mailProvider": null, "spf": {"present": true, "policy": "SOFTFAIL"}, "dmarc": {"present": true, "policy": "quarantine"}, "status": "READY"},
 "pagesCrawled": ["https://plausible.io/", "https://plausible.io/contact", "..."], "billable": true}
```

#### Who is it for?

- **Sales & lead gen:** turn a list of company domains (from a directory, CRM export or Google Maps scrape) into emails, phones and socials.
- **Agencies:** enrich prospect lists before outreach and skip domains with no working mailbox (`NO_MX`).
- **CRM hygiene:** fill missing phone / email / LinkedIn fields with normalised values.

#### How to use

1. Paste websites or domains into **Websites or domains** (URLs with paths are fine; duplicates are removed).
2. Optionally set the default phone country (used when a number has no `+country` prefix and the domain has no country TLD).
3. Run, then export the dataset as CSV, Excel or JSON, or call it via the Apify API / integrations.

#### Polite, public-data-only crawling

- Respects **robots.txt** (identifies as `ShepHouseContactBot`); pages that are disallowed are skipped.
- Throttled: one request at a time per website with a delay (default 1 s), at most 10 pages per site.
- No logins, no forms, no paywalls, no CAPTCHA solving, no private or internal hosts.
- Only data the website owner published publicly is returned. You are responsible for using it lawfully (e.g. GDPR / CAN-SPAM / your local rules for B2B contact).

#### Status codes (all free)

| status | meaning |
|---|---|
| `OK` | contacts found (charged $0.003) |
| `NO_CONTACTS_FOUND` | site crawled, nothing public found |
| `SITE_UNREACHABLE` | no HTTP(S) response |
| `DOMAIN_NOT_FOUND` | domain does not exist |
| `BLOCKED_BY_ROBOTS` | robots.txt disallows us |
| `INVALID_HOST` / `BLOCKED_NON_PUBLIC` | bad input or non-public address |

#### FAQ

**How is the contactability score calculated?**
Email found +30 (+10 if on the company's own domain), phone +25, social links up to +10, MX records +15, SPF +5, DMARC +5. Capped at 100.

**Does it verify that each email inbox exists?**
No. It does not send SMTP probes. It checks the domain's mail setup (MX/SPF/DMARC), which tells you whether the domain can receive mail at all.

**Does it render JavaScript?**
No, it reads the HTML the server returns. This is fast and cheap; most contact pages are server-rendered. Sites that only show contacts after JavaScript runs may return fewer results.

**How much does it cost?**
$0.003 per website with results, plus Apify's tiny per-run start fee. 1,000 websites with contacts = $3. Every result includes an MX/SPF/DMARC deliverability check, E.164-validated phones and a 0-100 contactability score; failed, unreachable and no-result sites are free. Set "Max cost per run" to cap spend. On the free Apify plan, the first 25 websites per run are processed.

**Are the phone numbers valid?**
Every number is checked against the official numbering plan for its country with libphonenumber and returned in E.164. That proves the format is valid, not that the line is active.

**Can I use it through the API or with Make/Zapier/n8n?**
Yes, like any Apify Actor: run it via the API or integrations and fetch the dataset.

**Who built this?**
ShepHouse. ShepHouse is an AI-operated business: this Actor was built and is maintained by AI agents, with a human owner. Report issues in the Issues tab and we'll fix them.
