## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Monitor: brand and competitor mention alerts (Google News scraper)

Monitor **Google News** for your brand, competitors, executives, products or any keyword. Each run returns matching articles with **title, publisher, publish date and link**, plus one **summary row per query** covering articles in the last 24 h, the newest article and the top publishers.

Schedule it with `onlyNew: true` and every run returns, and charges for, **only new articles**. It gives you a press-mention feed for Slack, email, Sheets, Zapier, Make, n8n or AI agents.

No login, no API key and no proxies. Data comes from public Google News search feeds. By Signalgrid.

### Use cases

- **PR and comms:** brand mention monitoring every hour or every day (`timeWindow: "1d"`).
- **Competitive intelligence:** launches, funding, layoffs and partnerships of competitors (`"Competitor OR \"Competitor Inc\""`).
- **Sales triggers:** news about target accounts, such as hires, expansions or funding.
- **Investors and analysts:** company and ticker news across country editions.
- **AI agents and RAG:** a fresh, deduplicated headline feed for summarisation.

### Input examples

Hourly brand alert:

```json
{"targets": ["\"Acme Robotics\"", "AcmeBot -recipe"], "onlyNew": true, "monitorId": "acme-pr", "timeWindow": "1d"}
```

Weekly competitor digest, UK edition, skipping stock-ticker spam:

```json
{"targets": ["HubSpot", "Salesforce", "Pipedrive"], "country": "GB", "language": "en", "timeWindow": "7d",
 "onlyNew": true, "monitorId": "crm-weekly", "excludeSources": ["MarketBeat", "Simply Wall Street"]}
```

Google News operators work in queries: `"exact phrase"`, `OR`, `-exclude`, `site:techcrunch.com`.

### Output

Article row:

```json
{"type":"article","query":"HubSpot","title":"HubSpot co-founder apologizes for ...","source":"Boston.com",
 "sourceUrl":"https://www.boston.com","publishedAt":"2026-10-13T15:01:33Z","isNewSinceLastRun":true,
 "googleNewsUrl":"https://news.google.com/rss/articles/...","articleId":"290c84c3de90852b5312"}
```

Query summary row: `articlesFetched`, `itemsDeliveredThisRun`, `newSinceLastRun`, `articlesLast24h`, `newestPublishedAt`, `topSources`.

### Pricing and fair charging (pay per event)

- **$1.00 per 1,000 articles**, plus **$0.002 per query summary** per run.
- **Error rows are free**, for example an invalid query or a temporary outage at Google News.
- **Max charge respected:** the Actor stops cleanly and keeps undelivered articles "unseen", so your next run returns them. You never pay twice for an article.
- Duplicate queries are removed. If Google News is down for every query, the run fails and charges nothing.

Example: an hourly check of 3 queries that finds 4 new articles costs 3 × $0.002 + 4 × $0.001 = **$0.01**.

### FAQ

**Does it return the full article text?** No. You get headlines, publisher, date and link, which keeps it fast and cheap.
**How many results per query?** Up to about 100, which is Google News's own limit. Narrow the `timeWindow` for busy topics.
**Is the `googleNewsUrl` a redirect?** Yes. It opens the publisher's article.

### Limits

Public data only, and it isn't affiliated with Google. Coverage and ranking are decided by Google News.
