## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## Website Technology Detector – CMS, Tech Stack & Outdated Software

Find out what any website is built with. Paste a list of domains and get, for each one, the **CMS or site builder**, **e-commerce platform**, **JavaScript frameworks**, **analytics and ad pixels**, **cookie consent tool**, **live chat**, **booking widget**, **hosting / CDN** and **web server**, with versions when they are exposed and a clear **outdated software** flag.

It is a lightweight Wappalyzer / BuiltWith alternative that runs in bulk on Apify: no browser, about one second per website, and you only pay for websites that were actually analyzed.

### What it detects

| Category | Examples |
| --- | --- |
| CMS & site builders | WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Webflow, Framer, Joomla, Drupal, Ghost, HubSpot CMS, TYPO3, Jimdo, Weebly, GoDaddy, Duda, Site123 |
| E-commerce | Shopify, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, Magento |
| Frameworks & libraries | Next.js, Nuxt, Gatsby, Astro, Angular, AngularJS, React, Vue.js, Svelte, Laravel, Django, ASP.NET, jQuery, Bootstrap, Tailwind, Elementor, Divi |
| Analytics & ads | Google Analytics 4, Universal Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Ads, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, TikTok Pixel, Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity, Matomo, Plausible |
| Cookie consent | Axeptio, Didomi, OneTrust, Cookiebot, tarteaucitron.js, CookieYes, Complianz, Iubenda |
| Chat, booking, payments | Intercom, Crisp, Zendesk, Tawk.to, Tidio, WhatsApp, Calendly, Doctolib, Planity, TheFork, Zenchef, OpenTable, Stripe, PayPal |
| Server & hosting | Apache, Nginx, IIS, LiteSpeed, PHP version, Cloudflare, Vercel, Netlify, CloudFront, Fastly, Akamai, OVHcloud, WP Engine, Kinsta |

### Outdated software flags

Each technology gets `outdated: true` with a plain-English reason when the detected version is end of life or known to be vulnerable, for example:

- WordPress below 6.4, PHP below 8.1, jQuery below 3.5, Bootstrap 3 or 4
- Drupal 7/9, Joomla 3/4, AngularJS, Flash
- **Universal Analytics** still installed (it stopped collecting data in July 2023)

This makes the Actor useful for **lead generation** (sites that need a rebuild), **security reviews** and **competitor research**.

### How to use it

1. Add domains or URLs to **Websites** (`example.com` or `https://example.com`).
2. Or chain it after another Actor: put that run's dataset ID in **Read URLs from a dataset** and the field name (default `website`), for example the output of a Google Maps scraper.
3. Click **Start**. Results appear in the **Overview** table and the **Outdated software only** view, and can be exported to CSV, Excel or JSON.

#### Input example

```json
{
  "urls": ["wordpress.org", "shopify.com", "example.com"],
  "maxConcurrency": 10
}
```

#### Output example

```json
{
  "url": "https://example-bakery.com/",
  "domain": "example-bakery.com",
  "statusCode": 200,
  "cms": "WordPress 5.2.4",
  "frameworks": ["jQuery 1.12.4", "Elementor"],
  "analytics": ["Universal Analytics"],
  "cookieConsent": [],
  "server": ["Apache 2.4.57", "PHP 7.4.33"],
  "hosting": ["Cloudflare"],
  "outdatedSoftware": ["WordPress 5.2.4", "jQuery 1.12.4", "Universal Analytics", "PHP 7.4.33"],
  "technologyCount": 7,
  "technologies": [
    { "name": "WordPress", "category": "CMS", "version": "5.2.4", "confidence": "high", "evidence": ["meta generator", "html"], "outdated": true, "outdatedReason": "WordPress below 6.4 ..." }
  ]
}
```

A `SUMMARY` record in the key-value store gives totals per CMS and the number of sites with outdated software.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$3 per 1,000 websites analyzed**. Websites that cannot be reached (DNS error, timeout, HTTP error) are listed in the results but **not charged**.

### Good to know

- Only the homepage is fetched, with one plain HTTP request. Technologies that only load after JavaScript runs, or only on inner pages, may be missed.
- Versions are shown only when the website exposes them.
- Detection is done from public HTML and HTTP headers. No login, no personal data.
- Use Apify Proxy (in **Advanced**) if many websites in your list block data-center traffic.

# Actor input Schema

## `urls` (type: `array`):

Domains or URLs to analyze, one per line (example.com or https://example.com).

## `datasetId` (type: `string`):

ID of an Apify dataset (for example the output of a Google Maps or website list scraper). The URL is read from the field below.

## `urlField` (type: `string`):

Name of the field holding the website URL.

## `dedupeDomains` (type: `boolean`):

Check each domain once (homepage) even if several URLs of the same site are given.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many websites are checked in parallel.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. Most small-business websites work without a proxy. Use Apify Proxy if many sites block requests from data centers.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "urls": [
    "apify.com",
    "wordpress.org",
    "shopify.com"
  ],
  "urlField": "website",
  "dedupeDomains": true,
  "maxConcurrency": 10,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One item per website with all detected technologies.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Totals for the whole run.
