## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Tech Stack Detector – BuiltWith & Wappalyzer alternative

Find out **which technologies any website uses**, in bulk and without a subscription. Paste a list of domains and get, for each site, its CMS, e-commerce platform, analytics and marketing tools, advertising pixels, CDN and hosting, JavaScript frameworks, payment providers and more. It covers **7,600+ technologies**.

### Why use it

- **Pay per website, not per month.** You pay **$6 per 1,000 websites analyzed** (BuiltWith and Wappalyzer plans start around $250–$300 per month).
- **Websites that can't be reached or that block automated access (HTTP 4xx/5xx) are never charged.** They are still returned, flagged with `blocked: true`.
- **Fast and cheap.** A plain HTTP analysis with no browser, so thousands of domains finish in minutes.
- **Built for lead generation and market research.** For example: find every Shopify store in your list, every site running HubSpot or Klaviyo, or every WordPress site on an old version.
- **Works with AI agents, the API, Zapier, Make, n8n and Google Sheets** through standard Apify integrations.

### Input

```json
{
  "domains": ["gymshark.com", "wordpress.org", "https://www.lemonde.fr"],
  "onlyCategories": ["Ecommerce", "Analytics"]
}
```

- `domains`: plain domains or full URLs.
- `onlyCategories` (optional): keep only matching categories, such as `CMS`, `Ecommerce`, `Analytics`, `Advertising`, `Payment processors`, `CDN` or `JavaScript frameworks`.

### Output (one item per website)

```json
{
  "input": "gymshark.com",
  "domain": "www.gymshark.com",
  "statusCode": 200,
  "technologyNames": ["Shopify", "Cloudflare", "PayPal", "Apple Pay", "HSTS"],
  "categories": ["CDN", "Ecommerce", "Payment processors", "Security"],
  "technologies": [
    {"name": "Shopify", "version": null, "confidence": 100, "categories": ["Ecommerce"], "website": "https://shopify.com"}
  ],
  "blocked": false,
  "charged": true,
  "error": null
}
```

Export to JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML, or read results through the API.

### How it works

The Actor downloads each website's homepage and matches its HTTP headers, cookies, meta tags, script URLs, inline scripts, HTML and DOM against an open fingerprint database. Versions are extracted when the site exposes them.

**Limitation:** the analysis is static and does not run JavaScript. Tools that are only visible after JavaScript runs may be missed. This trade-off is what keeps it fast and cheap.

### Pricing

- **$0.006 per analyzed website** ($6 per 1,000).
- Unreachable and blocked websites are free.
- You can set a maximum cost per run in Apify, and the Actor stops cleanly when that limit is reached.

### Data & compliance

Only public, technical information about websites is collected. No personal data is extracted.

### Support

Found a wrong or missing detection? Open an issue in the **Issues** tab with the domain and the expected technology. Fixes are shipped quickly.

# Actor input Schema

## `domains` (type: `array`):

Websites to analyze. Plain domains (example.com) or full URLs. Duplicates are removed.

## `onlyCategories` (type: `array`):

Keep only technologies in these categories, e.g. Ecommerce, CMS, Analytics, Advertising, Payment processors, CDN, JavaScript frameworks. Leave empty to return everything.

## `maxConcurrency` (type: `integer`):

How many websites are fetched in parallel.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "domains": [
    "shopify.com",
    "wordpress.org",
    "gymshark.com"
  ],
  "maxConcurrency": 20
}
```

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "domains": [
        "shopify.com",
        "wordpress.org",
        "gymshark.com"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("siteprobe/tech-stack-detector").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
    console.dir(item);
});
Clients without OAuth support can send an `Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_API_TOKEN>` header instead, using a token from API & Integrations in Apify Console (https://console.apify.com/settings/integrations).
