## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Shopify Store Auditor: theme, apps, speed, SEO, consent and product pages in one report

**Paste any Shopify store and get a prioritised list of what to fix, with evidence.** In one run you see:

- which theme and version the store runs, and which apps load on the storefront (with the script that proves it)
- speed red flags, SEO basics and cookie-consent gaps (UK/EU)
- accessibility issues, Product schema on product pages, and catalog gaps such as products without images or descriptions

Every store gets a score out of 100 per area, a grade and an HTML report you can send to a client. The audit uses public pages only: no admin access, no login, and robots.txt is respected.

### Who it is for

- **Shopify agencies and freelancers:** audit prospects before a sales call, or onboard a new client in five minutes.
- **Store owners:** get an independent checklist of what is slowing the store down or costing sales.
- **App makers and market researchers:** see which apps and themes stores use, in bulk.

### What it checks

| Area | Checks |
|---|---|
| **Theme** | name, schema name and version, Theme Store id, Online Store 2.0 |
| **Apps** | about 75 app signatures (reviews, email/SMS, chat, subscriptions, loyalty, upsell, search, BNPL, analytics, ad pixels, consent, page builders, pop-ups, translation) plus **app-embed handles** from `cdn.shopify.com/extensions/…`; overlapping apps (e.g. 2 search apps) |
| **Speed signals** | HTML response time and size, render-blocking scripts in `<head>`, third-party hosts, inline JS weight, images without width/height (CLS), missing lazy-loading |
| **SEO** | title, meta description, canonical, H1s, og:image, Organization/WebSite schema, robots.txt and sitemap.xml |
| **Consent (UK/EU)** | trackers without a consent banner, pixels hard-coded in the theme instead of Shopify Customer Events, tracking cookies set before consent |
| **Accessibility** | `lang`, images without alt, buttons/links without an accessible name, unlabeled fields, disabled pinch-zoom, skip link |
| **Product pages** (sampled) | Product + Offer JSON-LD completeness (price, availability, brand, sku/gtin), review stars in schema, server-rendered add-to-cart form, variant picker, breadcrumbs |
| **Catalog** (if public) | from `/products.json` **only when the store exposes it and robots.txt allows it**: products without images, thin descriptions, single-image products, vendors, price range |

#### Example (live run on allbirds.com, 11 Oct 2026)

```json
{
  "storeDomain": "www.allbirds.com",
  "overallScore": 86,
  "grade": "B",
  "theme": { "schemaName": "allbirds-theme", "schemaVersion": "1.231.12", "onlineStore2": true },
  "apps": ["Attentive", "Google Tag Manager", "Microsoft Clarity", "Elevar", "Shopify Customer Privacy banner"],
  "topFixes": [
    "[HIGH] 21 buttons/links without an accessible name: Add aria-label or visually-hidden text to icon buttons and links.",
    "[MEDIUM] 6 images without alt attribute: …"
  ]
}
```

### Use cases

1. **Prospecting.** Run 200 stores from your lead list and pitch the ones with a C grade and a high-priority consent or speed issue.
2. **Client monitoring.** Schedule weekly with *Monitoring mode* and a Slack webhook. You hear when a client installs a heavy app, changes theme, or a new issue appears.
3. **Competitive research.** See which reviews, loyalty and subscription apps top stores in a niche use.

### Pricing (pay per event)

| Event | When | Price |
|---|---|---|
| `store-audited` | per Shopify store fully audited | $0.05 |
| `ai-fix-plan` | per store when your own AI key returned a fix plan | $0.01 |

Examples:

- **100 stores:** $5.
- **Weekly monitor of 10 client stores:** about $2.15/month.

Non-Shopify sites, blocked stores, password-protected stores and robots-disallowed stores are reported and **never charged**. Sample mode is free.

### FAQ

**Do I need the store's admin access?** No. Only public pages are read, as a visitor's browser would.

**Is this a Lighthouse score?** No. Speed findings are server-side signals (HTML time, blocking scripts, third parties, image hygiene). For lab metrics (LCP, CLS, TBT), combine with the SiteVerdict Speed & Revenue Scanner.

**Why "not found" for apps I know are installed?** Apps that only run in checkout, in the admin, or in Shopify's sandboxed Web Pixels leave no trace in storefront HTML.

**Does it bypass Cloudflare or bot protection?** Never. Such stores are reported as `blocked` and are free.

**AI?** Optional, with your own Anthropic or OpenAI key. It turns the findings into concrete admin and Liquid steps. Only the findings are sent. The default is a mid-priced model and you can choose another.

### Limits

- No JavaScript execution: content rendered only by JavaScript (some headless or React storefronts) is invisible to the static checks. Findings say so where it matters.
- Up to 10 product pages and 1,000 catalog products per store, and 500 stores per run.
- Polite pacing of 1 request/second per store. Large runs take a while.

### Sources & compliance

- Shopify storefront conventions: `Shopify.theme`, `/products.json`, `cdn.shopify.com/extensions` (https://shopify.dev/docs/storefronts/themes, read 11 Oct 2026). Customer Privacy API and Customer Events: https://shopify.dev/docs/api/customer-privacy.
- UK PECR / ICO cookie guidance: https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/direct-marketing-and-privacy-and-electronic-communications/guide-to-pecr/cookies-and-similar-technologies/.
- Shopify's Terms of Service let merchants publish their storefront publicly. This Actor reads only public pages. Every URL is checked against **robots.txt** (RFC 9309) for our User-Agent `SiteVerdict/shopify-storefront-auditor (hello@webrevenuescan.com)`. `/products.json` is read only when robots.txt allows it. No proxies, no fingerprinting and no CAPTCHA solving.
- SSRF protection: private and internal addresses are refused on every redirect.
- **Personal data:** none collected. The audit covers technical page structure only and never collects customer or staff details. UK GDPR / PECR: if you use results for outreach, follow PECR rules for B2B email.
- Not legal advice. Consent findings are technical indicators, not a compliance opinion.
