## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News URL Feed

Keyword or topic in, news articles out: headline, source, published time and the **publisher's article URL** (resolved from the `news.google.com` link). One row per article.

### What it is (and is not)

A **Discover** step for news and RAG pipelines. It reads Google News RSS and resolves each Google News link to the real article URL, so the next step can fetch the page. It does **not** download or parse the article text. Send `articleUrl` to an extractor:

| Next step | Actor |
|---|---|
| Article text, byline, date | [Smart Article Extractor](https://apify.com/skilled_glee/article-text-extractor) |
| Readable page content | [Website Content Extractor](https://apify.com/skilled_glee/website-content-extractor) |
| Open Graph / JSON-LD / canonical | [Web Metadata Extractor](https://apify.com/skilled_glee/web-metadata-extractor) |
| Status / redirect check | [HTTP URL Probe](https://apify.com/skilled_glee/http-url-probe) |

| | |
|---|---|
| Input | `queries[]` and/or `topics[]`, optional `when`, `maxArticlesPerFeed`, `language`, `country`, `resolveUrls` |
| Output per article | `title`, `source`, `sourceUrl`, `publishedAt`, `articleUrl`, `googleNewsUrl`, `feed`, `feedType`, `rank`, `status` |
| Pricing | $0.005 per article listed ($5 / 1,000). Unresolved links and empty feeds are not billed. |
| Access | Google News RSS + Google News link decoding. No login, no API key, no browser. |
| Call it | REST `skilled_glee~google-news-url-feed` · MCP `https://mcp.apify.com/?tools=skilled_glee/google-news-url-feed` |

Pipeline role (n8n / agents): **Content / RAG → Discover**. Full catalog: [EchoEmpire Machine Foundry llms.txt](https://foundry.echoempire.org/llms.txt).

### Input

```json
{
  "queries": ["n8n"],
  "topics": ["TECHNOLOGY"],
  "maxArticlesPerFeed": 5,
  "when": "7d",
  "language": "en",
  "country": "US"
}
```

- `queries`: Google News search terms. Operators such as `site:reuters.com`, `intitle:`, quotes and `OR` work as on Google News.
- `topics`: `WORLD`, `NATION`, `BUSINESS`, `TECHNOLOGY`, `ENTERTAINMENT`, `SPORTS`, `SCIENCE`, `HEALTH` (top stories of that section).
- At least one query or topic; up to 50 feeds per run.
- `when` (queries only): `12h`, `7d`, `1y`, … Empty = Google News default.
- `maxArticlesPerFeed` (1–100, default 50). Google News RSS returns at most 100 items per feed.
- `language` / `country`: the Google News edition, e.g. `en`/`US`, `de`/`DE`, `pt-BR`/`BR`.
- `resolveUrls` (default `true`). Set `false` to get only `news.google.com` links (faster).

### Output

Row from a real run (2026-10-29):

```json
{"feed": "n8n", "feedType": "query", "rank": 1, "title": "n8n hosting early Black Friday deals 2026: Sale with up to 94% OFF", "source": "Cybernews", "sourceUrl": "https://cybernews.com", "publishedAt": "2026-10-26T14:54:54Z", "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMimAFBVV95...?oc=5", "articleUrl": "https://cybernews.com/deals/n8n-hosting-early-black-friday-deals-2026-sale-with-up-to-94-off/", "status": "ok", "error": null}
```

- `title` is the headline with Google's trailing " - Source" removed; `source`/`sourceUrl` come from the feed.
- `publishedAt` is the feed's `pubDate` in UTC.
- `rank` is the position in the feed (Google's order).
- `status`: `ok`, `unresolved` (Google News link could not be turned into a publisher URL; `articleUrl` is `null`, not billed) or `error` (feed failed or was empty; not billed).

`SUMMARY` in the default key-value store lists each feed URL, articles returned, unresolved count and whether a spending limit stopped the run.

### Pricing (pay per event)

| Event | When | Price |
|---|---|---|
| `article-listed` | Once per article row with `status: "ok"` saved to the dataset | $0.005 |

No start fee. `unresolved` and `error` rows are free. Example: 10 queries × 50 articles = 500 × $0.005 = $2.50.

### Limits

- Coverage, ranking and dates are whatever Google News RSS returns for the edition; this Actor does not add sources.
- Max 100 articles per query/topic per run (RSS limit). Use narrower queries or `when` windows for more.
- Link resolution uses Google News' own article-link decoder; if Google changes it or rate-limits, rows come back `unresolved` (free) rather than with a wrong URL.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

Keywords as in the Google News search box. Google News operators work, e.g. "site:reuters.com", "intitle:n8n", quotes. Give queries, topics, or both.

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Google News top-story sections: WORLD, NATION, BUSINESS, TECHNOLOGY, ENTERTAINMENT, SPORTS, SCIENCE, HEALTH.

## `when` (type: `string`):

Only articles from the last N hours/days/years, e.g. 12h, 7d, 1y. Empty = Google News default. Ignored for topics.

## `maxArticlesPerFeed` (type: `integer`):

1-100. Google News RSS returns at most 100 items per feed. Billing is per resolved article row.

## `language` (type: `string`):

Edition language, e.g. en, de, fr, pt-BR.

## `country` (type: `string`):

Edition country (2 letters), e.g. US, GB, DE, IN.

## `resolveUrls` (type: `boolean`):

On (default): turn each news.google.com link into the publisher's article URL; rows that cannot be resolved are returned as 'unresolved' and not billed. Off: return only Google News links (every row billed).
