## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Remote Jobs

**Search queries in, remote job listings out.**

### What it does

Searches remote job listings from Remotive's public job API (single source, no browser, no AI). Returns job title, company, category, job type, candidate location requirement, salary text, tags, URL, posting date, and description for each match. Up to 50 jobs per query (`limitPerQuery`, default 25).

> **DEGRADED:** Relevance scoring is currently degraded (measured 0.367 on test queries). Results are returned but may include less relevant matches. We are working on improvements.

### Input

```json
{
  "queries": ["python developer"],
  "limitPerQuery": 25
}
```

`queries` (required) is a list of search strings passed to Remotive's keyword search. There is no location filter input: every listing is a remote job, and `location` in the output is Remotive's candidate-location requirement (for example `"Worldwide"` or `"USA only"`). If `queries` is empty, the Actor falls back to `"python developer"` and charges for those jobs normally, so always pass the queries you want.

### Output

One dataset record per job (not one record per query):

```json
{
  "id": "1234567",
  "url": "https://remotive.com/remote-jobs/software-dev/senior-python-developer-1234567",
  "title": "Senior Python Developer",
  "company": "Example Corp",
  "category": "Software Development",
  "jobType": "full_time",
  "location": "Worldwide",
  "salary": "",
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-01T12:00:00",
  "tags": ["python", "django"],
  "description": "Job description text (HTML stripped, first 3,000 characters)...",
  "query": "python developer",
  "status": "ok"
}
```

`salary` is the free-text salary string the employer gave Remotive and is often empty. A query that fails or finds nothing produces one record `{"query": "...", "status": "error", "error": "..."}`. The key-value store record `run-summary` holds `requested`, `queriesSucceeded`, `queriesFailed`, `billable_units`, and `ppe_event`.

### Use cases

- Job board aggregation
- Recruitment pipelines
- Career monitoring

### Pricing

**$0.0045 per job extracted** ($4.50 per 1,000 jobs)

Charged once per `status: "ok"` job record saved. Error records (failed query, no jobs found) are not charged.

### Limitations

- **Relevance scoring degraded** — results may include off-target matches
- Single source (Remotive); coverage and freshness are whatever Remotive lists
- No location, salary, or date filters
- Some listings have incomplete data (for example empty `salary`)

### Failure behavior

Each query is processed independently. A failed query produces an explicit error record and the batch continues. Transient Remotive API errors (429/5xx/network) are retried up to 3 times.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
