## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

Trading halts are some of the most market-moving events there are: news pending before an acquisition or FDA decision, volatility pauses on a squeeze, regulatory halts over missing filings, SEC suspensions over pump-and-dump concerns. This Actor reads Nasdaq Trader's official halt list (it covers securities on every US exchange, not only Nasdaq) and the SEC's trading suspension orders, and returns clean rows with the reason, the halt and resumption times, and whether trading has resumed.

### What you can do with it

- 🚨 **Halt alerts:** schedule it every few minutes in monitor mode and get each new halt once, in Slack, Discord or a webhook.
- 📰 **News trading:** "news pending" halts (T1) usually come right before big announcements.
- 🔍 **Risk screening:** regulatory halts and SEC suspensions flag companies with filing or fraud problems.
- 📊 **Volatility research:** every LULD pause with its pause threshold price.

### Halt types

| Category | Reason codes | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| news | T1, T2, T3, C3 | news pending, released, resumption times |
| volatility | LUDP, LUDS, T5, T6, T7 | limit up/limit down pauses and other single-stock pauses |
| regulatory | H4, H9, H10, H11, T12, … | non-compliance, not current in filings, SEC suspension, regulatory concern, information requested |
| circuit breaker | MWC0–MWC3, MWCQ | market-wide circuit breakers |
| ipo | IPO1, IPOQ, IPOE | IPOs not yet trading or released for quotation |

### How to use it

#### Everything halted today

```json
{}
```

#### Alert on new regulatory halts and SEC suspensions (schedule every 15 minutes)

```json
{ "categories": ["regulatory"], "onlyNew": true, "monitorName": "regulatory-halts" }
```

#### Your watchlist, last 10 trading days

```json
{ "tickers": ["GME", "AMC", "CVNA"], "days": 14 }
```

### Output

```json
{
  "type": "halt",
  "ticker": "XYZ",
  "issueName": "XYZ Corp",
  "market": "NYSE",
  "reasonCode": "LUDP",
  "reason": "Volatility Trading Pause (LULD)",
  "category": "volatility",
  "haltDate": "2026-10-09",
  "haltTime": "11:15:00",
  "pauseThresholdPrice": "12.34",
  "resumptionDate": "2026-10-09",
  "resumptionQuoteTime": "11:15:00",
  "resumptionTradeTime": "11:20:00",
  "resumed": true
}
```

SEC suspensions come as `type: "sec-suspension"` rows with the company name, release number, date and a link to the order; `ticker` is filled when the company is in the SEC's ticker list. Times are US Eastern. The **`SUMMARY`** record counts halts by reason and lists everything still halted.

### Use it from code or an AI agent

**Python**

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("<YOUR_APIFY_TOKEN>")
run = client.actor("smartmoney-data/trading-halts-suspensions-monitor").call(run_input={})
for item in client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).iterate_items():
    print(item)
```

### FAQ

**Does it cover NYSE stocks?**
Yes. Nasdaq Trader publishes halts for securities listed on every US exchange, including NYSE and NYSE American.

**How fresh is it?**
Nasdaq updates the list every minute during the trading day. For alerts, schedule it every 5–15 minutes with `onlyNew: true`.

**Is this legal to use?**
Yes. Both sources are public: Nasdaq Trader's halt list and the SEC's trading suspension orders.

### Support

**Useful?** A short review on this page helps other people find it, and we read every one.
