## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

Defense primes, drugmakers and chip designers live and die by Washington. This Actor puts the three money flows side by side: **federal contract awards** from USAspending.gov, **lobbying spend, issues and firms** from the Lobbying Disclosure Act database, and **Congress trades** in the stock, each flagged when the member sits on a committee that oversees the company's sector.

### What you can do with it

- 🏛️ **Political exposure screen:** which holdings depend on federal contracts, and from which agencies.
- 🔎 **Conflict-of-interest research:** members of Armed Services trading defense contractors, Energy and Commerce members trading drugmakers.
- 💼 **Lobbying intelligence:** what a company lobbies on, which agencies it targets, which firms it hires and what it spends.
- 📰 **Journalism & newsletters:** "Top contractors traded by Congress this quarter", with the filings.
- 🤖 **AI agents:** "How exposed is RTX to government spending, and who in Congress owns it?" as one tool call.

### What's in each row

| Block | Fields | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Contracts | `contractAwards`, `contractValueUsd`, `topAgencies`, `largestContracts` (with USAspending links) | USAspending.gov |
| Lobbying | `lobbyingSpendUsd`, `lobbyingReports`, `lobbyingIssues`, `lobbiedEntities`, `lobbyingFirms`, `latestLobbyingReportUrl` | LDA (lda.gov) |
| Congress | `congressTrades`, `congressBuys`, `congressSells`, `politicians`, `tradesByOverseeingMembers`, `congressTradeDetails` | Senate eFD, House Clerk, congress-legislators |
| Flags | `politiciansTradedContractor`, `politiciansTradedLobbyingClient` | combined |

### Pricing

**Pay per company:** you're charged for each company profile returned, however many contracts, reports and trades went into it. See the **Pricing** tab for current rates.

### FAQ

**How are companies matched to contract recipients and lobbying clients?**
By name, conservatively: a recipient counts when its name, without legal suffixes, equals the company's or starts with a multi-word company name ("Lockheed Martin Aeronautics"). One-word names must match exactly, so "Apple" never picks up "Apple Hospitality REIT". Subsidiaries with their own names (Sikorsky, Pratt & Whitney) need `extraNames`.

**What does `contractValueUsd` measure?**
The total value of the contract awards with activity in the window, largest first, up to `maxAwardsPerTicker`. When more awards exist, `contractsTruncated` is `true`.

**Why is lobbying slow for long watchlists?**
The lobbying API allows 15 requests a minute without a key. A free key from lda.gov raises that to 120. Paste it in `ldaApiKey`.

**How is committee overlap decided?**
Each committee is mapped to the sectors in its jurisdiction, and the company's sector comes from its SEC SIC code. See the [Congress Stock Trades Tracker](https://apify.com/smartmoney-data/congress-stock-trades-tracker) for details. Committee assignments are current.

**Is this legal to use?**
Yes. Every source is public data published by the US government.
