## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Companies House Company Scraper – UK company records by name or number

Give it a list of company names or company numbers and it searches the public UK Companies House register. You get back one row per company, with the company number, registered name, status, company type, registered office address, SIC codes and the register URL.

It is a quick way to turn a list of names into verified UK company data. Run it on a schedule to keep a watch list of companies up to date.

### Why this one

- **No login or API key.** It reads the public register pages, so there is nothing to set up.
- **Search by name or number.** Type `tesco` or `00445790` in the same list.
- **Optional profile details.** Switch on **Fetch company profile details** to add status, type, full address and SIC codes with descriptions.
- **Same fields every time.** Each record has the same fields, and a missing value comes back as `null`, so exports stay tidy.
- **Control over volume.** Set **Max results per query** from 1 to 100 for each search.
- **Pay per result.** $3.10 per 1,000 results, and runs with no results cost nothing.

### Quick start

```json
{"queries": ["tesco"], "maxResultsPerQuery": 5, "includeDetails": true}
```

In a test run on 5 Nov 2026 this returned 5 company records for the query `tesco`, including TESCO PLC (company number 00445790, status Active).

### What you can use it for

| Who | What for |
|---|---|
| KYC and onboarding teams | Check that a UK counterparty exists and is active |
| Sales and lead generation teams | Build lists of UK companies and filter them by SIC code or status |
| Due diligence analysts | Check registered addresses and company type |
| Data teams | Add the official company number and registry URL to CRM records |
| Researchers | Look at companies in a sector by SIC code |

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free**.
2. In **Search queries**, add company names or numbers, for example `tesco` or `00445790`.
3. Set **Max results per query**, for example `5`. The limit is 100.
4. Leave **Fetch company profile details** on if you want status, type, address and SIC codes. Turn it off for a faster, lighter run.
5. Click **Start**.
6. To keep data fresh, add a run to **Schedules** and export the results each time.

### What data you get

Each row is one company. Fields from the profile page are filled when **Fetch company profile details** is on.

| Field | What it is | Example |
|---|---|---|
| `id` | Identifier for the company | `gb-ch-00445790` |
| `companyNumber` | Companies House company number | `00445790` |
| `name` | Registered company name | `TESCO PLC` |
| `url` | Link to the company on the register | `https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/00445790` |
| `status` | Company status | `Active` |
| `companyType` | Type of company | `Public limited Company` |
| `incorporatedOn` | Incorporation date in ISO format, when available | `null` |
| `incorporatedOnText` | Incorporation date as shown on the register, when available | `null` |
| `address` | Registered office address | `Tesco House, Shire Park, Kestrel Way, Welwyn Garden City, United Kingdom, AL7 1GA` |
| `sicCodes` | List of SIC codes with descriptions | `[{"code":"47110","description":"Retail sale in non-specialised stores with food, beverages or tobacco predominating"}]` |
| `detailsFetched` | Whether the profile page was read | `true` |
| `query` | The search query that found the company | `tesco` |
| `source` | Where the data came from | `Companies House public register` |
| `scrapedAt` | Time of extraction | `2026-11-05T01:01:19.804Z` |

### Pricing

| Event | Price |
|---|---|
| Result (each company written to the dataset) | $0.0031 |

There is no start fee. Runs with no results cost nothing.

| Run | Cost |
|---|---|
| 100 results | $0.31 |
| 1,000 results | $3.10 |
| 10,000 results | $31.00 |

### Good to know

- **Limits.** You can request 1 to 100 results per query. The register search returns the closest name matches, so a name query can include loosely related companies (the `tesco` test run returned a tyre company).
- **Duplicates.** A company appears once per run, under the first query that found it.
- **Data source.** Public pages of the UK Companies House register. No login is used.
- **Not included.** Officer personal details such as dates of birth or home addresses are not collected.
- **Freshness.** Results reflect the register at the time of the run. Check the official register for critical decisions.
- **Missing values.** Fields the register page does not show come back as `null`, for example the incorporation date in the test run.
- **Affiliation.** This tool isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Companies House.

### FAQ

**Can I search by company number?** Yes. Put the number in **Search queries**, for example `00445790`.

**What happens if I turn off profile details?** The run is lighter, but `status` and `companyType` are mostly `null`, `sicCodes` is empty and `detailsFetched` is `false`.

**Do I need an API key?** No.

### Getting the data out

Download results as Excel, CSV or JSON from the Output tab. Send them to Google Sheets, Slack, Zapier, Make or webhooks from the **Integrations** tab. Every run is also available through the Apify API, and you can schedule runs from **Schedules**.

### Questions or problems

Open an issue on the **Issues** tab and include the run link. I reply within one business day.
