## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Brand Monitoring API: Mentions Radar for News & Reddit

**One run, nine sources.** Type your brand (or a competitor, a product, a person) and get every recent mention from **Google News, Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky, Mastodon, YouTube, Stack Overflow, GitHub and Lemmy**, in one clean dataset, each with its **sentiment** (positive, negative or neutral).

Turn on **alert mode** and schedule it daily: every run returns **only the mentions that are new** since the last one. It's a social listening tool for a fraction of what monitoring tools charge per month.

No accounts, no API keys, no browser.

### Why this one?

- **All the places people talk, at once.** Mainstream news, communities, developer forums, video and the decentralized social web, without running nine scrapers and merging nine formats.
- **Sentiment on every mention.** Spot complaints and praise instantly (English and Spanish).
- **Alert mode.** Only new mentions since your last run: connect it to Slack or email and get a daily digest.
- **Engagement included:** likes, reposts, comments, points and views where the source shares them.
- **Clean and deduplicated.** One format, newest first, no repeats.

### Use cases

- **Brand monitoring and PR:** catch every story and post about your company, early.
- **Competitor tracking:** follow launches, complaints and buzz around competitors.
- **Customer feedback:** collect real opinions and bug reports from Reddit, forums and GitHub.
- **Crisis detection:** a spike of negative mentions? See it the same day.
- **Market research and content ideas:** what people say about a product category, right now.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| **Brands, products or keywords** | One per line. Multi-word names are searched as an exact phrase. |
| **Sources** | Pick any of the nine. All by default. |
| **Mentions from the last** | 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or 12 months. |
| **Max mentions per source** | Newest first, up to 100 per brand and source. |
| **Only new mentions (alert mode)** | Returns only mentions not seen in previous runs. |
| **Exclude mentions containing** | Drop noise, e.g. homonyms. |
| **News language / country** | The Google News edition (en/US, es/ES...). |

```json
{
  "brands": ["Notion", "Duolingo"],
  "timeRange": "7d",
  "maxPerSource": 30,
  "onlyNewMentions": true
}
```

### Output

```json
{
  "brand": "Duolingo",
  "source": "bluesky",
  "type": "post",
  "title": null,
  "text": "Day 400 of my Duolingo streak and I finally understand Spanish TV. Love this app!",
  "url": "https://bsky.app/profile/someone.bsky.social/post/3myorfj7efx2j",
  "author": "someone.bsky.social",
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-25T08:17:08Z",
  "sentiment": "positive",
  "sentimentScore": 1.0,
  "likes": 12,
  "reposts": 2,
  "comments": 3,
  "score": null,
  "views": null,
  "reactions": null,
  "community": null,
  "linkedUrl": null,
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-25T09:00:00Z"
}
```

A `SOURCES_REPORT` record in the run's key-value store shows how many mentions each source returned, and any source that was temporarily unavailable.

### Good to know

- **Sentiment** is a fast word-based score (English and Spanish). It's great for sorting and spotting trends, not a full language model.
- **Mastodon** is searched by hashtag (`#yourbrand`). **YouTube** dates are approximate ("2 days ago").
- Generic words (like "notion" or "apple") also bring other meanings: use **Exclude mentions containing** to remove them.
- Some sources limit how often they can be queried. If one is busy, the run continues with the others and the report says which one.

### Integrations

Schedule it daily (Apify Schedules) and send new mentions to Slack, email, Google Sheets, Notion, Zapier, Make or n8n with Apify integrations.

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free** (or **Start**) at the top of this page.
2. Fill in the input, or keep the example to see it working in seconds.
3. Click **Start** and wait for the run to finish.
4. Download the results as **Excel, CSV, JSON or HTML**, or get them through the Apify API.

### How much does it cost?

**$0.003 per mention** ($3.00 per 1,000). No start fee, no monthly fee, and you only pay for the results saved to your dataset.

| Example | Cost |
|---|---|
| Weekly mentions of one brand | about $0.45 |
| Daily alerts for 3 brands for a month | about $4.50 |

Apify's free plan includes monthly credit, so you can try it for free.

### FAQ

**Which sources does it monitor?**

Google News, Reddit, Hacker News, Bluesky, Mastodon, YouTube, Stack Overflow, GitHub and Lemmy, in one run.

**Can I get alerts only for new mentions?**

Yes. Turn on "Only new mentions" and schedule it daily: mentions you already have are skipped and free.

**Is it a cheaper alternative to Mention, Brand24 or Awario?**

Yes for most small brands: there is no monthly subscription, you pay only per mention found.

**Does it detect sentiment?**

Yes, a fast positive / negative / neutral score for English and Spanish.
