## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## USAspending Federal Contract Awards Watch

Monitor **new or modified US federal contract awards** using the official [USAspending.gov API](https://api.usaspending.gov/) (no API key). Each scheduled run returns awards that are **new or changed** since the previous run, filtered to your NAICS, PSC, agency, recipient, amount, and state criteria. State is stored in the named key-value store `usaspending-awards-watch-state`.

Use alongside [SAM.gov Contract Opportunities Watch](https://apify.com/socosupply/sam-opportunities-watch) to watch both **pre-award solicitations** and **post-award spending** for the same NAICS niche.

### Input example

```json
{
  "naicsCodes": ["541511"],
  "pscCodes": [],
  "awardingAgencies": ["Department of Veterans Affairs"],
  "recipientSearchTerms": [],
  "keywords": ["cloud"],
  "placeOfPerformanceStates": ["CA", "VA"],
  "minAwardAmount": 100000,
  "maxAwardAmount": 0,
  "modifiedWithinDays": 14,
  "maxResults": 50,
  "emitAll": false
}
```

### Output example

```json
{
  "awardId": "36C24825F0149",
  "generatedInternalId": "CONT_AWD_36C24825F0149_3600_V797D70260_3600",
  "recipientName": "BECKMAN COULTER, INC",
  "awardAmount": 549031.84,
  "awardingAgency": "Department of Veterans Affairs",
  "naicsCode": null,
  "pscCode": null,
  "placeOfPerformanceState": "FL",
  "lastModifiedDate": "2026-10-04 23:38:33",
  "description": "HEMATOLOGY COST PER TEST, EQUIPMENT, REAGENTS, AND ALL SUPPLIES AND SERVICES.",
  "uiLink": "https://www.usaspending.gov/award/CONT_AWD_36C24825F0149_3600_V797D70260_3600",
  "changeType": "new"
}
```

Recipient names are **organization names from federal award records** (public data). Individual contact details are never included.

### Sample run vs. monitoring

| Mode | `emitAll` | What you get |
|------|-----------|--------------|
| **Sample / first look** | `true` | Up to `maxResults` matching awards (changeType `new`, `updated`, or `unchanged`) so you can inspect the feed. |
| **Scheduled monitoring** | `false` | Only awards that are **new** or **updated** since the last successful run. Second run with the same filters typically emits **zero** rows. |

Turn `emitAll` off after your first run when scheduling daily or hourly checks.

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$4.00 per 1,000 dataset items** returned, plus **$0.003 per Actor start** (1 GB default memory).

### Data source

- API: `POST https://api.usaspending.gov/api/v2/search/spending_by_award/`
- Contract award types: A, B, C, D
- Terms: [USAspending](https://www.usaspending.gov/) is US federal open data; respect API rate limits (the Actor pauses 250 ms between pages).

# Actor input Schema

## `naicsCodes` (type: `array`):

Include contract awards with these NAICS codes. Empty = any NAICS.

## `pscCodes` (type: `array`):

Product Service Code filter. Empty = any PSC.

## `awardingAgencies` (type: `array`):

Top-tier awarding agency names as in USAspending (e.g. Department of Veterans Affairs). Empty = any agency.

## `recipientSearchTerms` (type: `array`):

Match awards where the recipient organization name contains any of these terms (official USAspending recipient_search_text filter).

## `keywords` (type: `array`):

Match if any keyword appears in the award description or award ID (case-insensitive).

## `placeOfPerformanceStates` (type: `array`):

Two-letter US state codes where work is performed. Empty = any.

## `minAwardAmount` (type: `number`):

0 = no minimum.

## `maxAwardAmount` (type: `number`):

0 = no maximum.

## `modifiedWithinDays` (type: `integer`):

Only include awards whose Last Modified Date on USAspending is within this many days (UTC). The API query window is sized to this range.

## `maxResults` (type: `integer`):

Stop after pushing this many award records (0 = unlimited).

## `emitAll` (type: `boolean`):

If true, push every award matching filters (changeType will be new, updated, or unchanged). If false, only new or updated since the last run. The example input turns this on so a first run shows a sample; turn it off for scheduled monitoring.
