## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

Scrapes Google News articles by search query or topic section, for any country and language. Article links are resolved to the publisher's own URL instead of the `news.google.com` redirect.

### Input

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `queries` | Search terms. Google operators are supported: `site:`, `intitle:`, `OR`, `"exact phrase"`, `-exclude`. |
| `topics` | Optional sections: `TOP`, `WORLD`, `NATION`, `BUSINESS`, `TECHNOLOGY`, `ENTERTAINMENT`, `SPORTS`, `SCIENCE`, `HEALTH`. |
| `country` / `language` | Edition to search, e.g. `GB` / `en-GB`, `DE` / `de`. Default `US` / `en`. |
| `timeRange` | `1h`, `1d`, `7d`, `30d` or `1y`. |
| `dateFrom` / `dateTo` | Optional date range. The range is searched day by day, so you can collect more than Google News' ~100 results per search. |
| `maxArticlesPerQuery` | Limit per query or topic. Default 100. |
| `decodeUrls` | Resolve publisher URLs. Default `true`. Turn it off for faster runs if you only need titles and sources. |

```json
{
  "queries": ["nvidia", "site:reuters.com interest rates"],
  "country": "US",
  "language": "en",
  "dateFrom": "2026-10-01",
  "dateTo": "2026-10-21",
  "maxArticlesPerQuery": 1000
}
```

### Output

```json
{
  "query": "electric vehicles",
  "title": "Drivers to save up to £300 when installing EV chargers at home",
  "source": "GOV.UK",
  "sourceUrl": "https://www.gov.uk",
  "publishedAt": "2026-10-20T23:01:05.000Z",
  "url": "https://www.gov.uk/government/news/drivers-to-save-up-to-300-when-installing-ev-chargers-at-home-...",
  "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/CBMi...",
  "relatedCoverage": [
    { "title": "...", "source": "BBC", "googleNewsUrl": "https://news.google.com/rss/articles/..." }
  ]
}
```

Topic results have `topic` instead of `query`. If a URL can't be resolved, `url` falls back to the Google News link.

### API usage

Run the Actor and get results in one request:

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/solarg~google-news-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"queries": ["nvidia"], "timeRange": "7d"}'
```

With the JavaScript client:

```js
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
const client = new ApifyClient({ token: 'YOUR_API_TOKEN' });
const run = await client.actor('solarg/google-news-scraper').call({"queries": ["nvidia"], "timeRange": "7d"});
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
```

With Python:

```python
from apify_client import ApifyClient
client = ApifyClient("YOUR_API_TOKEN")
run = client.actor("solarg/google-news-scraper").call(run_input={"queries": ["nvidia"], "timeRange": "7d"})
items = client.dataset(run["defaultDatasetId"]).list_items().items
```

You can also schedule runs in Apify Console and send results to Google Sheets, Slack, webhooks, Zapier, Make or n8n through Apify's integrations.

### Pricing

$1.50 per 1,000 articles. URL resolution and platform usage are included.

### Limitations

- Each search returns about 100 articles at most. Use a date range to get more.
- Article body text isn't included; this Actor returns article metadata and links.
- Results reflect what Google News shows for the selected country and language edition.
