## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Mercari Japan Scraper

Compare listed prices and availability for items on Mercari Japan. Get items from Mercari Japan search results, one row per item, with price, sale status and condition. Each run saves up to Maximum results across the selected inputs (20 by default).

### What does this Actor do?

- **You give:** a [jp.mercari.com search](https://jp.mercari.com/search?keyword=camera) with filters set on the site (price range, condition, on sale or sold out, sort), copied from the address bar.
- **You get:** item ID and link, title as the seller wrote it (mostly Japanese), price in yen, status (`on_sale`, `sold_out`, or `trading` = bought, sale in progress), condition in English with its number (1 new, unused; 2 like new; 3 no noticeable scratches or stains; 4 some scratches or stains; 5 scratches or stains; 6 poor overall condition), who pays shipping, brand (on about 2 in 3 items in the historical tests), size, category ID, name and path (in Japanese), seller ID, whether a Mercari Shops store sells it, thumbnail, and listed and last-updated times.
- **How many:** up to 120 items per page; the Actor follows the pages. "Maximum results" counts the whole run, across all your searches.
- **Speed:** in the historical local tests, 250 items from one search (3 pages) took 16 seconds (it runs a browser).
- **Price:** $2.70 per 1,000 items (20 items = $0.054). No start fee.
- **Not included:** item descriptions, extra photos, seller names, English titles, and a separate sold date.

### Input

| Field | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Search pages | Mercari Japan search pages; filters in the URL are kept | `https://jp.mercari.com/search?keyword=camera` |
| Maximum results | Stop after this many items | 20 |
| Only new results | Skip results that an earlier run with the same input already saved; they are not saved or charged | Off |
| Proxy configuration | Optional; the Actor runs without one | No proxy |

Search on jp.mercari.com, set any filters (price, condition, on sale only, sort order), and copy the address bar.

Example:

```json
{
    "startUrls": [
        { "url": "https://jp.mercari.com/search?keyword=camera&status=on_sale" },
        { "url": "https://jp.mercari.com/search?keyword=Canon%20EF%2050mm%20STM&price_min=9000&price_max=10000" }
    ],
    "maxItems": 500
}
```

### Output

One record per item. Download it as JSON, CSV, Excel or HTML from the Output tab, or read it through the Apify API.

```json
{
    "itemId": "m57770852883",
    "name": "KODAK PIXPRO FZ-55",
    "url": "https://jp.mercari.com/item/m57770852883",
    "price": 15300,
    "status": "on_sale",
    "condition": "Like new",
    "brand": "KODAK",
    "categoryName": "コンパクトデジタルカメラ",
    "categoryPath": "テレビ・オーディオ・カメラ > カメラ > デジタルカメラ > コンパクトデジタルカメラ",
    "createdAt": "2026-10-04T17:21:50.000Z",
    "scrapedAt": "2026-10-05T17:56:51.845Z"
}
```

A real record from a local test run on 2026-10-05, shortened to 11 of its 21 fields. Not shown: `currency`, `conditionId`, `shippingPaidBy`, `size`, `categoryId`, `sellerId`, `isShop`, `imageUrl`, `updatedAt`, `searchUrl`.
`condition` is Mercari's condition scale in English (1 = new, unused; 6 = poor overall condition). `categoryName` and `categoryPath` are Mercari's own category names, in Japanese. Titles stay in the seller's language, mostly Japanese.

The run also saves an `OUTCOME` record in its key-value store, and the same sentence as the run's status message: `COMPLETE` (your pages have no more results), `MAX_RESULTS` (stopped at Maximum results), `SPENDING_LIMIT`, `PARTIAL` (some pages failed to load), `PAGE_LIMIT`, `NO_NEW_RESULTS` (Only new results is on and nothing is new), `NO_MATCHING_RESULTS`, `NO_RESULTS` or `FAILED`. Only `FAILED` ends the run as failed.

### Pricing

You pay $2.70 per 1,000 items, only for items saved. No start fee. Platform costs (servers and Apify Proxy) are included in the price.
Example: the default maximum of 20 saved items costs $0.054 (20 × $0.0027). Fewer saved results cost proportionally less.

- A record found on two of your pages is saved and charged once per run.
- A run that cannot read anything stops with a reason and costs nothing.
- A record seen again in a later run is saved and charged again, unless "Only new results" is on.
- Set "Maximum results" or a spending limit to cap the cost.

### Notes

- This Actor is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the website it reads.
- It reads public search results only and needs no login. Seller IDs are the public IDs shown on the site; no names or contact details are collected.
- The site builds its pages with JavaScript, so this Actor runs a headless browser (default memory 2 GB).
- Found a problem? Open an issue on the Issues tab and include the run link.

# Actor input Schema

## `startUrls` (type: `array`):

Mercari Japan search pages, for example https://jp.mercari.com/search?keyword=camera. Search on jp.mercari.com, set any filters (price, condition, on sale only, sort), and copy the address bar. Each search page holds up to 120 items; the scraper follows the next pages.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Stop after saving this many items. You pay per result, so this also caps the cost.

## `onlyNew` (type: `boolean`):

Skip results that an earlier run with the same start URLs and filters already saved. Skipped results are not saved and not charged. The list of saved IDs is kept in a key-value store named "mercari-japan-scraper-seen" in your Apify account; delete it to start over.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Optional. The Actor runs without a proxy.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "startUrls": [
    {
      "url": "https://jp.mercari.com/search?keyword=camera"
    }
  ],
  "maxItems": 20,
  "onlyNew": false,
  "proxyConfiguration": {
    "useApifyProxy": false
  }
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `items` (type: `string`):

Saved items in the default dataset.

## `runSummary` (type: `string`):

Run outcome record in the default key-value store.
