## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google News Scraper: Articles with Real Publisher URLs

Search Google News for any keyword, or collect whole topic sections, and get a clean table of articles: title, publisher, publication time and **the article's real URL** on the publisher's site, not the `news.google.com` redirect link.

Works in 36 country and language editions, with time filters from the last hour to the last year. No login, no browser, no proxy needed.

**You pay only per article returned.** No start fee, and searches that find nothing cost nothing.

### What you get for each article

| Field | What it is |
|---|---|
| `title` | Headline, with the " - Publisher" suffix removed |
| `source`, `sourceUrl` | Publisher name and home page |
| `publishedAt` | Publication time in standard format (UTC) |
| `articleUrl` | The article's own address, for example `https://www.reuters.com/...` |
| `googleNewsUrl` | The Google News link, in case you need it |
| `query` or `topic` | Which search or section found it |
| `edition`, `position` | Edition searched, and rank in the results |

### Input

```json
{
  "queries": ["electric vehicles", "\"interest rates\" site:reuters.com"],
  "topics": ["BUSINESS"],
  "edition": "US:en",
  "timeRange": "1d",
  "maxArticlesPerQuery": 100,
  "resolveUrls": true
}
```

- **Search terms** work as in Google News: `"exact phrase"`, `OR`, `-exclude` and `site:example.com`.
- **Topics**: Top stories, World, Your country, Business, Technology, Entertainment, Sports, Science, Health.
- **Published within**: last hour, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or year.
- Articles found by more than one search are returned once.

### Typical uses

- **Media and brand monitoring:** run hourly with "Last hour" for your company, product or competitors.
- **Market and investment research:** collect coverage of a sector, a ticker or a topic over time.
- **AI and data pipelines:** feed fresh, deduplicated news links into summarisers, RAG or sentiment models; the real URLs can be fetched directly.
- **PR reporting:** count who covered a story and when.

### Pricing

$2.00 per 1,000 articles ($0.002 each), including the real publisher URL.

100 articles cost $0.20. An hourly brand alert that finds 10 new articles a day costs about $0.60 a month.

Each run also has Apify's standard start charge of $0.00005. Apify's paid plans get 10% to 30% off; the Pricing tab shows yours. The free plan's $5 monthly credit covers 2,500 articles.

### Limits

- Google News returns at most 100 articles per search. For more, split a topic into narrower searches or shorter time windows.
- The article text is not included. Combine with a page-text tool if you need it.
- Rarely Google does not resolve a link; then `articleUrl` is empty and the Google News link is still given.

### Questions

#### Can I run it on a schedule?

Yes. Save your input as a task and add an Apify schedule, for example every hour with "Last hour".

#### How do I get the results into Excel or Google Sheets?

Download any run's results as Excel, CSV or JSON from the Output tab, or connect Apify to Make, Zapier, n8n or Google Sheets.

#### Can I call it from my own code or an AI agent?

Yes. The API tab has ready-made code for Python, JavaScript and cURL, and the tool works with Apify's MCP server for AI agents.

#### Something looks wrong

Open a report under the Issues tab with the input you used.

# Actor input Schema

## `queries` (type: `array`):

One search per line, as you would type it into Google News. Quotes, OR, minus words and site:example.com work.

## `topics` (type: `array`):

Optional. Google News sections to collect in addition to (or instead of) searches.

## `edition` (type: `string`):

Which Google News edition to search.

## `timeRange` (type: `string`):

Applies to searches. Run every hour with "Last hour" to get only new articles.

## `maxArticlesPerQuery` (type: `integer`):

Google News returns up to 100 articles per search. Newest and most relevant first.

## `resolveUrls` (type: `boolean`):

Turns each news.google.com link into the article's own address (nytimes.com, reuters.com...). Turn off for faster runs when the Google News link is enough.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "queries": [
    "electric vehicles",
    "\"interest rates\" site:reuters.com"
  ],
  "edition": "US:en",
  "timeRange": "any",
  "maxArticlesPerQuery": 20,
  "resolveUrls": true
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `articles` (type: `string`):

One item per article: title, publisher, date, publisher URL and Google News link.
