## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Europages Supplier & Distributor Directory Scraper

Turn public Europages supplier directory pages into a company list you can filter, export, and review for procurement or B2B research. Each result links back to the company profile and the directory page where it appeared.

### Quick start

```json
{
  "directoryUrls": ["https://www.europages.co.uk/companies/electric-equipment.html"],
  "maxCompanies": 5,
  "includePublicProfiles": true
}
```

The example returns up to five distinct companies from the electric equipment directory. With public profiles enabled, a result can include a published description, business type, product categories, website, and contact phone. One company from that public directory and profile looks like this (description shortened for display):

```json
{
  "provider_id": "22308452",
  "name": "I3C",
  "profile_url": "https://www.europages.co.uk/en/company/i3c-22308452",
  "country": "TN",
  "city": "TUNIS",
  "business_type": "Distributor",
  "description": "I3C has a professional and dynamic team at your service...",
  "website_if_explicit": "https://www.i3c.com.tn/",
  "public_contacts": [{"contactType": "customer service", "telephone": "+21670732164"}],
  "source_url": "https://www.europages.co.uk/companies/electric-equipment.html"
}
```

Full rows also contain `address_if_public` and `product_categories` when available.

### Inputs and coverage

- `directoryUrls`: 1–10 public `https://www.europages.co.uk/companies/...html` directory URLs. Paginated directory pages are followed automatically.
- `maxCompanies`: 1–1,000 distinct companies across all input URLs; default 10.
- `includePublicProfiles`: false by default. Turn it on for published profile details. It can add one page request per company, so larger runs take longer.

The Actor reads anonymous public Europages UK directory and company pages. It does not open contact forms, access gated details, infer missing websites or contacts, or cover unrelated directory sites. A field stays empty when the source does not publish it or a profile cannot be read. Public page content and availability can change.

### Results, limits, and billing

The default dataset holds company rows, deduplicated by Europages company ID across all input pages. Each saved company counts once, even when its public profile was also fetched. A profile request does not create a second company row. Check the Actor's Store configuration for current pricing and any platform usage charges.

The `OUTPUT` key-value record reports fetched directory pages and profiles, saved companies, skipped duplicates, skipped invalid listings, source errors, and why a run stopped. The Actor follows at most 40 directory pages and reads at most 2 MiB per page. If a source blocks a page, a profile is unavailable, the limit is reached, or a run is interrupted, check `OUTPUT` and the saved dataset for partial results. Error and summary records are never company dataset rows.

# Actor input Schema

## `directoryUrls` (type: `array`):

Paste 1-10 public Europages UK /companies/...html directory URLs. The example lists electric equipment suppliers.

## `maxCompanies` (type: `integer`):

Save up to this many distinct companies across all URLs. Start with 10; choose up to 1000 when you need a larger list.

## `includePublicProfiles` (type: `boolean`):

Visit each public profile for additional published details such as description, business type, categories, website, and phone. This adds up to one request per company and increases run time.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "directoryUrls": [
    "https://www.europages.co.uk/companies/electric-equipment.html"
  ],
  "maxCompanies": 10,
  "includePublicProfiles": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

One dataset row per distinct public company listing.

## `summary` (type: `string`):

Fetched pages and profiles, saved and skipped companies, limits, and source errors.

    ]
};

// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("springlike_meadowland/supplier-directory-scraper").call(input);

// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
