## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Snowpack, Snow Depth and Soil Moisture by State

Informational only. Not for navigation, safety, emergency, financial, medical, or legal decisions. Check the official source before you rely on it.

Get the newest daily snow water equivalent, percent of median, snow depth, 1-day and 7-day changes, water-year precipitation, air temperature and soil moisture (2, 8 and 20 inches) for every active government snow station (SNOTEL) and soil climate station (SCAN) in the states you pick. One row per station.

### What you get

- Station name, id, state, county, elevation, latitude, longitude.
- Snow water equivalent, the 1991-2020 median for the date, percent of median, 1-day and 7-day change.
- Snow depth and its 1-day change, water-year precipitation, air temperature at the reading.
- Soil moisture percent at 2, 8 and 20 inches where the station measures it.
- Median peak snow water and its usual date.
- Reading time as ISO 8601 with offset, plus a plain label. Each daily value is the midnight reading at the end of that date in station standard time.
- Self-check fields (qcStatus, qcNotes) and an error field. Odd values, stale readings and source errors are flagged, never dropped.

### How to use (no code)

1. List the states you want (default CO).
2. Turn on snow stations, soil stations, or both.
3. Click Start. A full state usually takes under 2 minutes. Download as CSV, Excel or JSON.

### Limits

Values are provisional and can be revised. Snow stations are only in western states and Alaska. Some stations do not measure every item; those fields are null. The median is shown only when the station reported a snow water value that day. The source sometimes fails on large requests; the tool retries in smaller pieces and flags any station it could not fill.

# Actor input Schema

## `states` (type: `array`):

Two-letter state codes, e.g. CO, UT, MT, AK. Snow stations are in western states and Alaska; soil stations are in most states.

## `includeSnotel` (type: `boolean`):

Mountain snow stations with snow water, snow depth, precipitation, temperature and, at some sites, soil moisture.

## `includeScan` (type: `boolean`):

Lower-elevation soil moisture and weather stations in most states.

## `stationTriplets` (type: `array`):

Specific stations as id:state:network, e.g. 1344:CO:SNTL. Added to the states above.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "states": [
    "CO"
  ],
  "includeSnotel": true,
  "includeScan": false
}
```

# Actor output Schema

## `results` (type: `string`):

All rows in the default dataset.

# API

You can run this Actor programmatically using our API. Below are code examples in JavaScript, Python, and CLI, as well as the OpenAPI specification and MCP server setup.

## JavaScript example

```javascript
import { ApifyClient } from 'apify-client';
// Initialize the ApifyClient with your Apify API token
// Replace the '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>' with your token
const client = new ApifyClient({
    token: '<YOUR_API_TOKEN>',
});
// Prepare Actor input
const input = {
    "states": [
        "CO"
    ]
};
// Run the Actor and wait for it to finish
const run = await client.actor("standardwork/snowpack-soil-moisture").call(input);
// Fetch and print Actor results from the run's dataset (if any)
console.log('Results from dataset');
console.log(`💾 Check your data here: https://console.apify.com/storage/datasets/${run.defaultDatasetId}`);
const { items } = await client.dataset(run.defaultDatasetId).listItems();
items.forEach((item) => {
