## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Weekly Propane, Heating Oil, Diesel and Gas Prices by State

**Informational only. Not for navigation, safety, emergency, financial, medical, or legal decisions. Check the official source before you rely on it.**

Survey averages, not a price offer. Call your supplier for a current price.

### What it does

For each state you list, returns the latest weekly price (and optional history) for:

- residential propane and residential heating oil (heating season survey, about October to March),
- retail on-highway diesel,
- retail regular gasoline.

Each row shows the week, price per gallon, change from the prior week, the price about one year earlier, and the change from a year ago. When the government survey has no price for your state, the row uses your region's average (or the U.S. average) and says so in `areaLevel`, `areaName`, and `note`.

Good for fuel dealers, farm and ranch budgets, delivery fleets, property managers, and anyone tracking rural heating costs.

### How to use it (no code)

1. Click **Try for free** or **Start**.
2. Add one or more two-letter state codes, for example `OH`, `NY`, `MN`.
3. Turn fuels on or off.
4. Pick how many weeks of history you want (1 is just the latest).
5. Click **Start**. Export to Excel, CSV, or JSON, or schedule it weekly (EIA updates these on Wednesdays, Best guess on timing).

### Example input

```json
{"states": ["OH", "NY"], "includePropane": true, "includeHeatingOil": true, "includeDiesel": true, "includeGasoline": false, "weeks": 4}
```

### Output fields

Same fields in the same order on every row; missing values are null.
state, stateName, fuel, product, areaLevel (state, region, or U.S.), areaName, seriesId, weekOf, pricePerGallon, changeFromPriorWeek, yearAgoWeekOf, yearAgoPrice, changeFromYearAgo, unit, note, disclaimer, credit, sourceUrl, pageUrl, retrievedAt (ISO 8601 with offset), retrievedAtLocal (U.S. Central), qcStatus (ok or flagged), qcNotes, error.

### Coverage and limits

- Propane: 38 states plus regional and U.S. averages. Heating oil: 24 states plus regions. Off-season (about April to September) the latest value can be months old; rows are flagged when the latest week is over 14 days old.
- Diesel: regions plus California. Gasoline: regions plus 9 states (CA, CO, FL, MA, MN, NY, OH, TX, WA).
- Discontinued state series (for example DC and Illinois heating oil) are skipped and the region is used.
- Year-ago price is the reading within 3 days of 52 weeks earlier, when one exists.
- Self-checks flag prices outside a plausible range, week-over-week moves over 15%, stale latest weeks, and future dates.

# Actor input Schema

## `states` (type: `array`):

Two-letter U.S. state codes, for example OH or NY. When EIA has no weekly price for a state, the regional (or U.S.) average is returned and labeled. Leave empty for OH and PA.

## `includePropane` (type: `boolean`):

Weekly residential propane price (heating season survey, about October to March).

## `includeHeatingOil` (type: `boolean`):

Weekly residential No. 2 heating oil price (heating season survey, about October to March).

## `includeDiesel` (type: `boolean`):

Weekly retail on-highway No. 2 diesel price (year-round; regions plus California).

## `includeGasoline` (type: `boolean`):

Weekly retail regular gasoline price (year-round; regions plus 9 states).

## `weeks` (type: `integer`):

How many recent weekly readings to return per state and fuel (1 to 52). Each reading is one result.

## `includeUSAverage` (type: `boolean`):

Also return the U.S. average for each fuel, for comparison.
