## Pricing

Pay per usage

This Actor is paid per platform usage. The Actor is free to use, and you only pay for the Apify platform usage, which gets cheaper the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## NWS Daily Climate Reports (CLI) — US daily high, low, precipitation and snowfall

Get the **official National Weather Service Daily Climate Report (CLI)** for any US climate station as clean JSON: daily maximum and minimum temperature, precipitation, snowfall, snow depth, normals, departures from normal and records — with a clear **preliminary vs. final** flag on every row.

The CLI is the report the NWS treats as the official daily record for a station, so it is what people use to settle questions like *"what was the official high in Central Park yesterday?"*.

### What you get

| Field | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `station`, `stationName` | `KNYC`, `New York City, Central Park` | |
| `date` | `2026-09-30` | The climate day the report covers (local standard time) |
| `reportType` | `final` / `preliminary` | `preliminary` = issued the same afternoon/evening; `final` = issued after local midnight |
| `issuedAt` | `2026-10-01T06:19:00+00:00` | When NWS issued the report (UTC) |
| `highF`, `highTime`, `lowF`, `lowTime` | `74`, `103 PM`, `60`, `1215 AM` | °F |
| `highNormalF`, `highDepartureF`, `highRecordF`, `highRecordYears` | | Same for `low…` |
| `precipIn`, `precipTrace` | `0.0`, `true` | A trace is returned as `0.0` with `precipTrace: true` |
| `precipMonthToDateIn`, `precipYearToDateIn`, `precipNormalIn` | | |
| `snowIn`, `snowTrace`, `snowDepthIn` | | |
| `averageWindMph`, `highestWindMph`, `highestGustMph`, `averageSkyCover` | | |
| `productId`, `reportTextUrl` | | Link to the original NWS text product |

Missing values (`MM` in the NWS text) are returned as `null`, never as a fake zero.

#### Sample output

```json
{
  "station": "KNYC",
  "stationName": "New York City, Central Park",
  "date": "2026-09-30",
  "reportType": "final",
  "issuedAt": "2026-10-01T06:19:00+00:00",
  "highF": 74,
  "lowF": 60,
  "precipIn": 0.0,
  "precipTrace": false,
  "snowIn": 0.0
}
```

### How to use

1. Enter one or more **stations** (ICAO codes such as `KNYC`, `KMDW`, `KMIA`, `KAUS`, `KLAX`, `KDEN`, `KPHL`; `NYC` also works).
2. Optionally set **start date** and **end date** (default: the last 7 days). Up to 5 years per run.
3. Tick **Final reports only** if you only want the settled, after-midnight report.

Schedule it daily to build your own history, or call it from an AI agent through the Apify MCP server.

### Common uses

- Backtesting and settling daily temperature questions with the official NWS number
- Energy and utility analytics (degree days, demand vs. temperature)
- Agriculture, insurance and event-planning research
- Journalism and climate dashboards ("hottest September day on record?")

### Pricing

Free to use — you only pay Apify's standard platform usage, which is tiny because this Actor calls official APIs directly (no browser, no proxies).

### Data sources and reliability

- Report data: NWS Daily Climate Reports, via the archive of the [Iowa Environmental Mesonet](https://mesonet.agron.iastate.edu/) (Iowa State University). Both are public domain; thanks to IEM for maintaining the archive.
- Station names and time zones: [api.weather.gov](https://www.weather.gov/documentation/services-web-api).
- Only official APIs are used — no scraping, no proxies, no CAPTCHAs — which is why runs are fast and stable.

The NWS can revise reports; when a corrected report is issued, the latest version is returned. This Actor is not affiliated with NOAA, the NWS or Iowa State University.

# Actor input Schema

## `stations` (type: `array`):

ICAO station codes used by NWS climate reports, e.g. KNYC (Central Park), KMDW (Chicago Midway), KMIA (Miami), KAUS (Austin), KLAX (Los Angeles), KDEN (Denver), KPHL (Philadelphia). 3-letter codes like NYC are also accepted.

## `startDate` (type: `string`):

First day (YYYY-MM-DD). Defaults to 6 days before the end date.

## `endDate` (type: `string`):

Last day (YYYY-MM-DD). Defaults to today.

## `finalOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Skip same-day preliminary reports and return only the final report issued after midnight local time.

## Actor input object example

```json
{
  "stations": [
    "KNYC",
    "KMDW",
    "KMIA"
  ],
  "finalOnly": false
}
