## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Google Trends Scraper: bulk keywords, regions and related queries

Get Google Trends data for one keyword or hundreds in a single run: **interest over time**, **interest by country, state or region**, and **related queries (top and rising)**. Works for any country, any timeframe, and Web, YouTube, News, Image or Google Shopping search.

**Price: $2 per 1,000 keywords** ($0.002 per keyword). No start fee. Keywords that fail are free.

### What does Google Trends Scraper do?

It does what you would do by hand on trends.google.com, for a whole list of keywords at once, and returns clean JSON or a spreadsheet. Google rate-limits Trends heavily, so each keyword gets its own IP session and is retried automatically on a fresh IP. You get results instead of failed runs.

### Use cases

- **SEO and content planning:** find rising queries before competitors do and pick topics with growing interest.
- **E-commerce and product research:** check seasonality and demand by region before stocking a product.
- **Market research and investing:** track brand, product or category interest over time.
- **Dashboards and reporting:** schedule weekly runs and send results to Google Sheets, BigQuery or a webhook.
- **AI agents:** call it through the Apify API or MCP server and get compact JSON per keyword.

### How to use it

1. Click **Try for free** (Apify's free plan includes monthly credit, enough for over a thousand keywords).
2. Add your **keywords**, optionally a **country code** (`US`, `GB`, `IN`, `US-CA`) and a **timeframe**.
3. Click **Start**. A few keywords finish in under a minute. 60 keywords take about 3 minutes.
4. Export to Excel, CSV or JSON, or read the dataset via the API.

### Input example

```json
{
  "keywords": ["matcha", "protein powder", "creatine"],
  "geo": "US",
  "timeframe": "today 12-m",
  "searchProperty": "",
  "interestOverTime": true,
  "interestByRegion": true,
  "relatedQueries": true
}
```

| Option | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Keywords | `["matcha", "protein powder"]` | One result per keyword |
| Country / region code | `US`, `GB`, `IN`, `US-CA` | Empty = worldwide |
| Timeframe | `today 12-m` | Also `now 1-H`, `now 7-d`, `today 1-m`, `today 3-m`, `today 5-y`, `all`, or `2025-01-01 2025-06-30` |
| Search type | Web, YouTube, News, Images, Shopping | Default: Web |
| Category ID | `0` | Google Trends category, 0 = all |
| Interest over time / by region / related queries | `true` | Turn off what you don't need for faster runs |

### Output example

One item per keyword (shortened):

```json
{
  "keyword": "chatgpt",
  "geo": "WORLDWIDE",
  "timeframe": "today 12-m",
  "interestOverTime": [
    {"date": "2025-10-05", "label": "Oct 5 – 11, 2025", "value": 98, "isPartial": false},
    {"date": "2025-10-12", "label": "Oct 12 – 18, 2025", "value": 95, "isPartial": false}
  ],
  "interestByRegion": [
    {"geoCode": "RW", "geoName": "Rwanda", "value": 100},
    {"geoCode": "LK", "geoName": "Sri Lanka", "value": 78}
  ],
  "relatedQueries": {
    "top": [{"query": "ai chatgpt", "value": 100, "formattedValue": "100", "link": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=ai+chatgpt&date=today+12-m"}],
    "rising": [{"query": "chatgpt codex", "value": 1050, "formattedValue": "+1,050%", "link": "https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=chatgpt+codex&date=today+12-m"}]
  },
  "scrapedAt": "2026-10-10T15:38:11+00:00"
}
```

| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| `interestOverTime` | Time series of search interest (0-100) with dates and a partial-period flag |
| `interestByRegion` | Interest by country, or by state/region when you set a country |
| `relatedQueries.top` | Most popular related searches with their relative score |
| `relatedQueries.rising` | Fastest-growing related searches (e.g. `+350%`, `Breakout`) |

### Pricing (plain terms)

You are charged **$0.002 for each keyword that returns data**, and nothing else:

| Keywords | Cost |
|---|---|
| 10 | $0.02 |
| 1,000 | $2.00 |
| 10,000 | $20.00 |

There is no start fee and no extra charge for compute or proxies. If Google blocks a keyword after all retries, you are not charged for it. You can also set a maximum cost per run in the run options.

### FAQ

**Is there an official Google Trends API?** Google offers only a limited alpha API. This actor gives you the same data you see on trends.google.com, in bulk, without an API key.

**Why are values between 0 and 100?** That is how Google Trends reports interest: 100 is the peak for that keyword, region and timeframe. Values are relative, not search volumes.

**Can I compare keywords on one scale?** Each keyword is fetched on its own scale. Use the same timeframe and region for all keywords and compare shapes and peaks.

**Can I get daily data?** Yes: use a timeframe of up to 9 months (e.g. `today 3-m` or a date range). Longer ranges return weekly or monthly points, as on Google Trends.

**Does it return related topics or "Trending now"?** No. Related topics are returned empty by Google for automated sessions, and daily "Trending now" lists are a different product.

### Limits

- One result per keyword; comparison of up to 5 keywords on one chart is not supported.
- Very rare keywords can have too little search volume for Google Trends; they return empty series and still count as one result.
- Google may slow down very large runs; the actor retries automatically on fresh IPs.

### API example

```bash
curl -X POST "https://api.apify.com/v2/acts/steady_scrape~google-trends-scraper/run-sync-get-dataset-items?token=YOUR_API_TOKEN" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"keywords": ["bitcoin", "ethereum"], "geo": "US", "timeframe": "today 3-m"}'
```

Questions or a missing feature? Open an issue in the **Issues** tab and it will usually be handled within a day.

This actor reads publicly available Google Trends data. It does not log in to any account or collect personal data.
