## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## UK Gazette Insolvency Check

Check UK companies by name or company number against insolvency notices in The Gazette (the UK's official public record): winding-up petitions, liquidator appointments, administrations, creditor notices and more. Get a HIGH / REVIEW / NONE_FOUND risk flag per company, or list the latest notices as a daily feed for credit control and merchant risk.

### How it works

Queries The Gazette's public insolvency notice data feed (thegazette.co.uk/insolvency/notice/data.json), no key needed. Gazette content is Crown copyright, reusable under the Open Government Licence v3.0 with attribution. Name searches match the exact registered name (LTD/LIMITED and PLC variants normalised) to avoid false hits; number searches match the company number quoted in the notice. In feed mode (no companies) you get the latest notices, charged at the lower `notice-listed` price. Errors are returned as rows with `ok: false` and not charged.

### Output

`query, riskFlag, insolvencyNoticesFound, latestNoticeType, latestNoticeDate, notices, ok`

### Pricing (pay-per-event)

- `company-checked`: **$0.003** per result ($3 / 1,000).
- `notice-listed` (feed mode only): **$0.0005** per notice ($0.5 / 1,000).

Platform usage is included; you pay only for results.

### Example input

```json
{
  "companies": [
    "PSG UK FACILITIES MANAGEMENT LIMITED",
    "SC687786",
    "ACME TRADING LIMITED"
  ],
  "publishedFrom": "2025-01-01"
}
```

### Example output

```json
{
  "query": "SC687786",
  "riskFlag": "HIGH",
  "insolvencyNoticesFound": 3,
  "latestNoticeType": "Petitions to Wind Up (Companies)",
  "latestNoticeDate": "2025-08-08T01:04:04",
  "notices": [],
  "ok": true
}
```

### Disclaimer

NONE_FOUND only means no matching Gazette insolvency notice was found; it is not a credit check or proof of solvency. Notices about individuals (personal insolvency) can appear in feed mode: handle them under UK GDPR and don't use them for marketing. Not affiliated with The Gazette or TSO.

### FAQ

**How do I check if a UK company is in liquidation?**
Enter company names or numbers; each is matched against Gazette insolvency notices (winding-up, liquidation, administration) and given a risk flag.

**Can I monitor insolvencies daily?**
Yes. Leave companies empty for a feed of the latest notices and schedule it daily, or schedule your customer list for ongoing monitoring.

**Who uses it?**
Credit control, merchant acquiring risk teams, KYB/onboarding, lenders, suppliers and insolvency practitioners.
