## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

### Use cases

- **App store optimization (ASO):** track your ranking position for keywords and compare it with competitors.
- **Market research:** pull all apps for a niche ("budget planner", "meditation") with ratings, installs and prices.
- **Competitor monitoring:** schedule a daily run for your competitors' apps and watch ratings, versions and price changes.
- **Lead lists for B2B:** developer names and websites of apps in your target category.

### How to use

1. Add **app IDs or URLs** (e.g. `com.whatsapp`) and/or **search terms** (e.g. `fitness tracker`).
2. Choose **country** (`us`, `gb`, `de` …) and **language** (`en`, `de` …). Prices, availability and rankings depend on the country.
3. Run it, then export as JSON, CSV or Excel, or connect to Google Sheets, Make, Zapier or n8n.

```json
{
  "apps": ["com.whatsapp", "https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spotify.music"],
  "searchTerms": ["budget planner"],
  "maxResultsPerSearch": 20,
  "country": "us",
  "language": "en"
}
```

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.0015 per app returned** ($1.50 per 1,000 apps), plus Apify's tiny actor-start fee. Platform usage is included.

### Use with AI agents (MCP)

This Actor works as a tool for AI assistants and agents – Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, n8n and other MCP clients – through Apify's hosted MCP server. Add this server URL to your client:

```
https://mcp.apify.com?tools=stevenkramp/google-play-store-scraper
```

Sign in with your Apify account when asked. Your agent can then call the Actor in plain language, for example: *"Get details and ratings for the top 20 meditation apps on Google Play."* – and gets clean, structured JSON back. Runs started by your agent are normal Actor runs on your Apify account at the same pay-per-event price.

### FAQ

**How many apps per search?** The first results page holds up to 30 apps, in the order Google Play shows them. `searchPosition` gives the rank.

**Why is `version` empty for some apps?** Big apps like WhatsApp show "Varies with device" instead of a version number.

**Personal data?** None. The Actor returns public app listing data only, and no user reviews or reviewer names.

**Something broken?** Open an issue in the Issues tab. Google changes Play Store pages from time to time, and we fix scrapers quickly.
