## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

## No-Website Local Leads: Find Businesses With Weak Websites

Pick a type of business and a US city. Get a list of **local businesses that have no website, a dead one, or a weak one**, with business name, address, main phone, the website they are listed with, a **0 to 100 website weakness score** and **plain reasons** you can use as the first line of a pitch ("the site loads over plain http", "no mobile viewport tag", "the listed website does not load").

Built for web designers, SEO freelancers, site-builder and hosting sellers, and marketing agencies that need prospects who clearly need help, not a raw list of every business in town.

Places come from **Overture Maps open data** (not Google Maps, no scraping of search or review sites). Each business's own website is then checked live: public home page only, `robots.txt` respected, no logins, no CAPTCHA bypass. Business facts only: no personal emails, no personal phone numbers.

Try it: press **Try for free**. The prefilled input finds 10 weak-website dentists in Austin, TX.

### What you get per lead

| Field | Contents |
|---|---|
| **business** | Name, type, street address, city, ZIP, business main phone, social page links, distance from the city centre, map coordinates. |
| **website.listed** | The web address recorded for the business (or null). |
| **website.status** | `none_listed`, `social_or_directory_only` (only a Facebook, Yelp or similar page), `unreachable` (the site does not load), `checked`, or `could_not_check` (site blocks automated access; never counted as weak). |
| **website.weakness_score** | 0 to 100, higher means weaker. No website = 100, dead site = 100, social page only = 95, otherwise 100 minus the website score. |
| **website.check** | For live sites: score and grade, HTTPS and certificate days left, response time, mobile tag, what it is built with (Wix, Squarespace, WordPress and so on), and the issues with the fix for each. |
| **reasons / pitch_hook** | Plain-English reasons the web presence is weak, and the strongest one as an opening line. |
| **match_confidence, source** | Overture confidence that the business exists, record date, licence and attribution link. |

Example categories: dentists, restaurants, cafes, salons, gyms, vets, lawyers, accountants, plumbers/electricians/HVAC, builders, real estate, auto repair, hotels, daycares and more (29 in total).

### Pricing

Pay per event: **$0.003 per business lead returned** plus **$0.002 per live website check** on a returned lead (leads with no website or a dead site have no check, so they cost $0.003). A tiny flat start fee of $0.00005 per run. **Searches with no results and failures are free.** Healthy sites that are filtered out are never charged.

Spend is capped by **Max leads** (default 50, hard limit 500), by the run's maximum cost setting, and by an internal limit on websites checked per run.

(Shortened: the real row also has coordinates, social links, the Overture id and more issues.) The results table in the Apify console shows business, type, address, phone, listed website, status, weakness and pitch hook. Download as JSON, CSV or Excel.

### FAQ

**How good is the "no website" signal?** "No website listed" means none is recorded in the open data, not proof that none exists. Some businesses have a site the data has not picked up. Every such row says so; check with a quick search before pitching. Sites that are listed are checked live, so those findings are measured, not guessed.

**Where does the data come from, and can I use it commercially?** Overture Maps Places, open data whose source datasets are released under CDLA-Permissive-2.0, Apache-2.0 (Foursquare) and CC0. Commercial use is allowed; attribution is required if you republish the places data: credit Overture Maps Foundation, see https://docs.overturemaps.org/attribution/. Each row carries the source and licence.

**What if the listed website belongs to someone else?** Open data sometimes lists the wrong address. When none of the business name appears on the site, the row carries a note to check before pitching.

**Is this a Google Maps scraper?** No. It does not use Google, search results or review sites.

**Does it respect robots.txt?** Yes. The website check identifies itself as `StromationSiteAudit` and skips pages that robots.txt disallows. A site that answers 401, 403 or 429 is marked `could_not_check`, never as weak. No bot-protection bypass.

**Does it return personal data?** No. Business names, addresses and main phone numbers only. Where a sole practitioner's business is named after the person (for example "Dr. Smith DDS") that is the name the business lists publicly. No emails are collected and any email-shaped text is removed.

**What does an empty result cost?** Nothing.

**How many leads can I get?** Up to 500 per run. Dense cities have more businesses than a 10 km radius covers; raise the radius up to 20 km, or run again with another ZIP code.

**Which areas?** US cities and ZIP codes.

### Limits

US only. Radius up to 20 km from the city centre. Up to 500 leads per run. Website checks look at the public home page only. Places data is a snapshot and can be out of date (the record date is in each row).
