## Pricing

from $0.99 / 1,000 comment delivereds

This Actor is paid per event. You are not charged for the Apify platform usage, but only a fixed price for specific events.
Since this Actor supports Apify Store discounts, the price gets lower the higher subscription plan you have.

## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Reddit Comments Scraper - Threads & Replies

Paste Reddit post links and get every public comment and reply as one flat table. Each row has the comment text, author, score, dates, a direct link, and the parent ID and reply depth you need to rebuild the conversation. Teams use it for sentiment and opinion research, customer pain points, community moderation reviews and AI training data. No Reddit account or login needed.

### What you get

| Field | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| `body` | It just shows how little they care. | Markdown, as the author wrote it |
| `author`, `authorFlair` | Spajk, null | Flair is empty when the author has none |
| `score` | 1214 | When collected |
| `createdAt`, `editedAt` | 2021-02-28T21:37:00.866Z | UTC, ISO 8601 |
| `permalink` | https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/luq9oz/.../gp8brae/ | Direct link to the comment |
| `id`, `parentId` | t1_gp8brae, t1_gp8beoa | Top-level comments point to the post (`t3_...`) |
| `depth`, `childCount` | 1, 0 | 0 = top level. `childCount` is the number of direct replies Reddit reports |
| `postId`, `postTitle`, `postUrl`, `subreddit` | t3_luq9oz, How I cut GTA Online loading times by 70% | The post the comment belongs to |
| `isPostAuthor` | false | True when the original poster replied |
| `distinguished` | moderator | Set for moderator and admin comments |
| `isStickied`, `isLocked`, `isArchived`, `isScoreHidden` | false | Comment flags |
| `mediaUrls` | \["https://i.redd.it/a.png"] | Images or GIFs posted in the comment |
| `languageCode` | en | Often empty on older threads |
| `capturedAt` | 2026-10-20T13:08:37.641Z | When the row was collected |

32 fields per comment. Deleted and removed comments have no text, so they are skipped and never charged. Their replies are still kept.

### How to use it

1. Paste one or more post links (up to 100). Full links, old.reddit and mobile links, redd.it links, comment links and post IDs all work.
2. Pick the comment order and your limits.
3. Click **Start** and download CSV, Excel or JSON from the **Output** tab.

```json
{
  "postUrls": ["https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/luq9oz/"],
  "sort": "TOP",
  "maxCommentsPerPost": 500,
  "maxComments": 500,
  "maxDepth": -1
}
```

A small run (a few dozen comments) finishes in about 5 seconds. Big threads go fast at first; the last part of a thread with thousands of comments is spread over many small reply branches and takes longer. The status line shows progress while it runs, and if the run ends before every branch is read, the final message says roughly how many replies were not reached.

### Input

| Field | What it does |
|---|---|
| Reddit post links | Posts to collect, one per line, up to 100. Lines that aren't Reddit posts are skipped and listed in the run summary. |
| Comment order | Best, Top, New, Controversial, Old or Q\&A. Decides which comments come first when a limit cuts a thread short. |
| Max comments per post | Keeps one huge thread from using the whole run. 0 = no limit. |
| Max comments in total | Limit for the whole run. 0 = no limit. |
| Max reply depth | 0 = top-level only, 1 = plus direct replies, -1 = every level. |
| List deleted and removed comments | Off by default. When on, they're listed in a separate free record so you can see where a thread has gaps. |
| Extra passes for more comments | Reads very large threads again in other orders and adds only new comments. On automatically when both limits are 0. |

Calling it from code or an AI agent? `startUrls` (`[{"url": ...}]`), `urls` or `url` work for the links, and `maxItems` or `limit` for the total. Fields the scraper doesn't know are ignored and listed in the run message.

### Output example

```json
{
  "id": "t1_gp8brae",
  "postId": "t3_luq9oz",
  "postTitle": "How I cut GTA Online loading times by 70%",
  "postUrl": "https://www.reddit.com/comments/luq9oz/",
  "subreddit": "programming",
  "parentId": "t1_gp8beoa",
  "depth": 1,
  "childCount": 0,
  "body": "It just shows how little they care.",
  "author": "Spajk",
  "isPostAuthor": false,
  "score": 1214,
  "createdAt": "2021-02-28T21:37:00.866Z",
  "permalink": "https://www.reddit.com/r/programming/comments/luq9oz/how_i_cut_gta_online_loading_times_by_70/gp8brae/",
  "capturedAt": "2026-10-20T13:08:37.641Z"
}
```

The run summary (Output tab) shows, for each post, how many comments were saved, how many Reddit says the thread has, how many deleted or removed comments were skipped, and why the run stopped.

### Pricing

You pay per comment saved: **$1.29 per 1,000 comments** on the Apify Free plan, going down to $0.99 per 1,000 on the Business plan and higher. There's no extra start fee.

- 500 comments cost about $0.65.
- Deleted and removed comments, duplicates and skipped links are free.
- Set "Maximum cost per run" in Run options for a hard cap. If that cap is too low to save any comment, the run tells you so.

### FAQ

**Can I get every comment on a big thread?** Set both limits to 0 and Max reply depth to -1, and give the run enough time in Run options (Timeout). Threads with tens of thousands of comments end in thousands of small reply branches, and each branch is a separate step, so they can take over an hour. The run stops cleanly a few seconds before its timeout and keeps its place. To finish, open the run and choose **Actions > Resurrect** with a longer timeout: it continues where it stopped and adds the rest to the same dataset, and comments you already have are not charged again. The run summary compares the comments saved with the count Reddit shows. On very large or old threads that count is much higher than what can be read: Reddit counts deleted and hidden comments, and it only lists part of a big thread in any one order. That is why "Extra passes" reads the thread in several orders.

**Why does Reddit show more comments than I got?** Reddit's count includes deleted, removed and hidden comments. Those have no text to export.

**Is the output nested?** No. One row per comment keeps it easy to filter and export. Use `parentId` and `depth` to rebuild the tree.

**How do I find posts to scrape?** Search by keyword with our [Reddit Search Scraper](https://apify.com/studioxl/reddit-post-search-scraper), then paste its `permalink` values here.

**What happens with a bad link?** It's skipped and listed in the run summary with the reason. The other posts still run. Share links (`/s/...`) aren't supported yet: open them and copy the full post link.

**Can I run it on a schedule?** Yes. Save the input as a task and add a schedule. Results can go to Google Sheets, Slack, Make, Zapier or n8n through Apify integrations.

### Limits

- Up to 100 posts per run.
- Public comments only. Deleted or removed text can't be recovered.
- Scores are a snapshot from the moment of collection.
- Private communities aren't available; those posts show as unavailable in the run summary.

Questions or a missing field? Open an issue in the **Issues** tab with your run ID.

# Actor input Schema

## `postUrls` (type: `array`):

One post per line, up to 100. Full post links, old.reddit and mobile links, redd.it links, comment links and post IDs (like luq9oz) all work. Lines that aren't Reddit posts are skipped and listed in the run summary.

## `sort` (type: `string`):

Order Reddit uses for the thread. It decides which comments come first when a limit cuts the thread short.

## `maxCommentsPerPost` (type: `integer`):

Stops one big thread from using the whole run. 0 means no limit.

## `maxComments` (type: `integer`):

Most comments to save across all posts. You pay only for saved comments. 0 means no limit.

## `maxDepth` (type: `integer`):

0 keeps top-level comments only, 1 adds direct replies, and so on. -1 keeps every level.

## `includeDeleted` (type: `boolean`):

Deleted and removed comments have no text and are never charged. Turn this on to list them in a separate free record (DELETED_AND_REMOVED) so you can see where gaps in a thread are.

## `maximizeCoverage` (type: `boolean`):

Very large threads show only part of their comments in any one order. With this on, the scraper also reads the thread in the other orders (New, Old, Top, Controversial) and adds only comments it has not seen yet. On automatically when both comment limits are 0.

  "maxComments": 500,
  "maxDepth": 8,
  "includeDeleted": false
}
```
# Actor output Schema
## `comments` (type: `string`):
One row per comment. Switch views for thread structure, comment status or every field.
## `json` (type: `string`):
All documented comment fields in JSON format, including optional media and HTML content.
## `csv` (type: `string`):
All documented comment fields for spreadsheet analysis.
## `runReport` (type: `string`):
Comments saved per post, deleted or removed comments skipped (not charged), links that were ignored, and why the run stopped.
## `deletedAndRemoved` (type: `string`):
Only filled when 'List deleted and removed comments' is on. Free, not part of the dataset.
## `continue` (type: `string`):
Only present when a very large thread hit the time limit: how to finish it in this same dataset.
