## What's an Apify Actor?

An Actor is a serverless cloud program that runs on the Apify platform. It has two run modes.
In Batch mode, an Actor accepts a well-defined JSON input, performs an action which can take anything from a few seconds to a few hours,
and optionally produces a well-defined JSON output, datasets with results, or files in key-value store.
In Standby mode, an Actor provides a web server which can be used as a website, API, or an MCP server.

Apify vocabulary and the platform model are defined once, in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md.

## How to integrate an Actor?

If asked about integration, you help developers integrate Actors into their projects.
You adapt to their stack and deliver integrations that are safe, well-documented, and production-ready.

Do not guess an integration path. Every one of them is in the agent quickstart at https://apify.com/agents.md: the Apify MCP server, Agent Skills with the Apify CLI, the JavaScript and Python clients, the REST API, and the account-free path for an agent with no human to sign in. It also carries the rule on stating cost before the first paid run.

For examples already wired to this Actor's own input schema, see the [API](#api) section below.

Each client library has reference documentation the quickstart does not restate: [JavaScript/TypeScript](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/js/docs.md) (`npm install apify-client`) and [Python](https://docs.apify.com/api/client/python/docs.md) (`pip install apify-client`).

# README

## Just Eat UK Restaurants Scraper - Ratings, Fees & ETAs by Postcode

Every Just Eat UK restaurant that delivers to (or is collectable near) a postcode,
as flat, typed dataset rows: star rating and review count, cuisines, address with
latitude/longitude, open-now flags, the delivery fee ladder, minimum order, delivery
time range, distance and the menu URL. Filter by cuisine, open now and minimum rating.

### What you are paying for, honestly

The data comes from the discovery endpoint behind justeat.co.uk's own restaurant
search (`uk.api.just-eat.io`). It needs no login or API key, and anyone who finds it
can read the same JSON. What this actor adds:

- **One row per restaurant, flat.** Fees arrive in pence inside a separate block keyed
  by id, ratings as nested objects, cuisines as objects, coordinates as GeoJSON
  `[lng, lat]`. Here they are joined and named columns, fees in pounds.
- **Many postcodes in one run, on a schedule.** Run a list of postcodes daily and
  send the dataset to Sheets, a webhook, S3 or your warehouse.
- **Filters** by cuisine, open now and minimum rating, applied before the row cap.
- **The refusal handling.** Just Eat sits behind Cloudflare. Refused (HTTP 403) and
  timed-out requests are retried from a fresh proxy address.

### Input

| Field | Type | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| `postcodes` | array | `LS1 6AN` | UK postcodes, or outcodes such as `LS1` for a wider area. Spaces and case do not matter. Required. |
| `maxItems` | integer | `100` | Most rows **per postcode**, after the filters, in Just Eat's listing order. Each row is billed, so this is a spending cap. |
| `cuisine` | string | - | Keep restaurants with a cuisine whose label or slug contains this text (`pizza`, `indian`, `fish-and-chips`). |
| `openNowOnly` | boolean | `false` | Keep only restaurants open for delivery or collection at run time. |
| `minRating` | number | - | Keep only restaurants rated at least this many stars (0-5). Unrated restaurants are dropped when set. |
| `proxyConfiguration` | proxy | Apify datacenter | Measured 2026-10-07: the Apify platform address and datacenter proxy get 200; a home address in Japan gets Cloudflare 403. |

Just Eat returns a postcode's **whole** restaurant list in one response (2,528
restaurants, 2 MB, for LS1 6AN), so `maxItems` limits rows and cost, not download size.
An outcode returns more (2,827 for `LS1`).

### Output

One row per restaurant **per searched postcode**. The same restaurant found from two
postcodes is two rows, because fee, minimum order, ETA, distance and open-for-delivery
all depend on where you search from.

```
restaurant_id, name, unique_name, url           identifiers; url is the menu page
search_postcode, search_area, position           what was searched; position = Just Eat's listing order
rating, rating_count                             stars (null if none shown) and number of ratings
cuisines, cuisine_slugs                          ["Indian","Curry"] / ["indian","curry"]
address_line, city, postcode, latitude, longitude, distance_meters
is_open_now, is_open_now_delivery, is_open_now_collection
is_delivery, is_collection, is_temporarily_offline, is_new, is_premier, is_promoted
delivery_cost, minimum_order                     GBP
delivery_fee_bands                               [{"minimum_order": 15, "fee": 2.5}, {"minimum_order": 99, "fee": 0}]
delivery_eta_min_minutes, delivery_eta_max_minutes, delivery_eta_approx_minutes
collection_eta_minutes
opening_time_local, delivery_opening_time_local  UK local time, no offset, as sent
logo_url, deals, tags
```

#### Null means "not given", never zero

- `rating` is **null when Just Eat reports 0 stars.** It writes 0 for restaurants nobody
  has rated and also for some that have ratings but show no stars (measured: ratings
  counts of 1 to 96 with 0 stars). No restaurant is rated zero stars, so 0 is a gap.
  `rating_count` is left as sent.
- On a **collection-only** restaurant Just Eat sends delivery cost 0 and minimum order 0.
  Those are fillers, not "free delivery", so `delivery_cost`, `minimum_order` and the
  delivery ETA are null and `delivery_fee_bands` is empty. On a restaurant that does
  deliver, 0 is real (a free tier, or no minimum).
- `delivery_cost` is the cheapest band on the fee ladder (measured equal to it on 196
  of 196 restaurants that publish one); `delivery_fee_bands` is the whole ladder.
- `deals` is passed through as sent. It was an empty list on every one of 2,059
  restaurants read on 2026-10-07, so this actor cannot yet tell you what a deal looks like.
- `tags` includes Just Eat's internal flags (for example `exclude-from-order-action`).
- A postcode Just Eat does not know, or one with nothing delivering, returns no rows and
  is named in the run log.

### Pricing

Pay per event: a small **actor start** fee plus one **restaurant scraped** event per
row. Set `maxItems` to cap spend.

### Limits

- UK only. Postcodes outside the UK, or malformed, are refused before any request.
- A snapshot: open-now flags, ETAs and fees change through the day.
- Not affiliated with Just Eat Takeaway.com.

# Actor input Schema

## `postcodes` (type: `array`):

UK postcodes to search, such as LS1 6AN or EC1A 1BB. A district alone (an outcode such as LS1) also works and returns a wider area. Spaces and case do not matter. A code Just Eat does not know is reported in the log and costs nothing but the actor start fee.

## `maxItems` (type: `integer`):

Most rows to return for each postcode, after the filters below, in the order Just Eat lists them. Each row is one billable event, so this is also a spending cap. Just Eat sends a postcode's whole restaurant list in one response (2,500+ for central Leeds), so a low cap does not make the run faster, only cheaper.

## `cuisine` (type: `string`):

Optional. Keep only restaurants with a cuisine whose name or slug contains this text, case-insensitive: pizza, indian, fish-and-chips, burgers. Matches Just Eat's own cuisine labels, not the restaurant's name.

## `openNowOnly` (type: `boolean`):

Off by default. When on, keep only restaurants that are open for delivery or for collection at the moment of the run.

## `minRating` (type: `number`):

Optional, 0 to 5. Keep only restaurants rated at least this many stars. Restaurants with no star rating (new, or rated by too few people to show stars) are dropped when this is set.

## `proxyConfiguration` (type: `object`):

Apify datacenter proxy by default, which Just Eat's API answered from the platform on 2026-10-07. Just Eat sits behind Cloudflare, which refuses some addresses (a home connection in Japan got HTTP 403 on every request). A refused or timed-out request is retried from a fresh exit address.
